The Story That Is Die Another Day

James Bond, with South Korean operatives, is sent to intercept an illegal arms deal set to take place between an African diamonds smuggler and North Korean officer Colonel Moon. It is feared that Colonel Moon is stockpiling advanced weaponry for the possible invasion of South Korean and subsequently Japan, to form a new super-power China.

James Bond succeeds in his mission, killing Colonel Moon. However, victory comes at a high price with James Bond imprisoned in North Korea and the British Government disavowing all knowledge of his existance.

On the other side of the world, with James Bond still a prisoner in North Korean an Argentinian orphan becomes a billionaire and his fame rises rapidly. His name is Gustav Graves, and while running a diamond mine from his famous Ice Palace in North Korea, he also has a keen interest in the environment and space technology. The latter leads him to create Icarus, a second sun in the sky with the power to illuminate the far reachers of the globe.

But all is not as it seems, and the world is in danger yet again in a power struggle for world domination.

  2. More Emerging Details On The Pre-Title Sequence

    By daniel on 2002-01-30

Details about the pre-title sequence of James Bond 20 have surfaced on Aint It Cool News. These details come from the tipster 'Linkin' who has told AICN that they recently visited the Bond 20 set at Pinewood Studios. Understandably spoiler warnings are prominent with this report.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

It’s hard to find the facts in this news report as it’s obviously written by someone not completely aware about the plot of Bond 20. However, I’ll try and analyse it all the same.

Hi. Just like to follow up on your Bond set details scoop. I was lucky enough to visit the Pinewood set recently and would like to expand on some details.

The Korean set refered to is a house/compound of a Korean arms dealer located in the de-militarized zone of Korea. An arms deal is taking place there and Bond flies in in a SeaHawk helicopter (which was blown up when I was there). He is then taken captive and later escapes by dodging gunfire and leaping onto a hovercraft attempting to escape.

The compound that ‘Linkin’ is referring is possibly the headquarters of Colonel Moon. In recent times we’ve learn that Colonel Moon is the films villain and bases his headquarters in the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea. The headquarters is reportedly on sandy land and surrounded by land mines.

Recent leaked pictures from the Bond 20 set indicate that Bond (under the alias of Mr Van Beere) travels to these headquarters in the described helicopter. I can personally reveal further details on this scene. As ‘Linkin’ does mention, the helicopter is destroyed. What he doesn’t mention is that it is destroyed by Colonel Moon using one of the hi-tech weapons he has on hand. However, if Colonel Moon is the described arms dealer I’m currently unaware of it.

Perhaps Bond is paying Colonel Moon off with diamonds in order for MI6 to learn what technology Colonel Moon has available.

Finally, on the above paragraph by ‘Linkin’ he describes Bond escaping, we know this not to be a fact. Rather the opposite is true. Moving on…

The korean dealer also owns a collection of sports cars which are parked within the compound, two of these cars are totalled by gunfire.

As ‘Linkin’ has described the arms dealer I believe that he definetly is describing Colonel Moon. Before now we have learnt that Colonel Moon’s most trusted henchmen (including the infamous Zao who will be played by Rick Yune) will own a collection of eight or so sports cars.

If you're looking for further details, as you may be slightly confused about some of the above references I've made, past Bond 20 news reports may be of interest to you. In particular these recent reports (here, here and here) will be of interest to you.

James Bond 20 promises to be one of the best James Bond cinematic adventures to date. From what little we know of the plot writer Purvis and Wade have seemingly put together a well fleshed adventure. I have a feeling that this November few Bond fans will be disappointed.

A big thanks to 'rafterman' for posting this news in the Bond 20 Forums. If you'd like to discuss it please visit this thread in the Bond 20 Forums which is an ongoing discussion of the pre-title sequence that we know so far.

  3. Spy Report: Filming Behind The Scenes Footage

    By daniel on 2002-01-30

Our regular insider ‘Vanquish’ tell us today of the filming of behind the scenes footage. Amazingly enough, this is one spy report that contains no spoilers, so you won’t have to highlight to read.

The Special Treats Production Company are responsible for the behind the scenes / documentary footage for Bond 20. This may be for the DVD. They filmed the press conference, which is being streamed on the net, however, it was a small independent company based at Pinewood Studio’s that edited the piece.

The Special Treats Production Company did work on The World Is Not Enough. However, to the best of my knowledge none of their work wound up on the DVD. Rather, it was (sadly) limited to the official website. Their work included still photos, some videos and the weekly diary report from Yarborough.

The Special Treats Production Company have confirmed their involvement to us.

Thanks to Vanquish for sending that news into us.

  4. Details From The Press Release

    By daniel on 2002-01-29

At the press conference on January 11 a press pack was distributed. Thanks to Tim from all time high we can now delve into details revealed in the press pack that have no surface on the Internet before now.

First is the confirmation that American actor Michael Madsen has indeed been cast in Bond 20. His role is described as an "uncompromising CIA agent."

Also included was a description of the plot. As this is the official plot you can understand there are few major spoilers, and you may wish to read official information. However, just in case we've included a spoiler warning anyway.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

The story begins in the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea with a spectacular high-speed hovercraft chase and continues via Hong Kong to Cuba and London where Bond meets up with two ladies who are to play such important and differing roles in his quest to unmask a traitor and to prevent a war of catastrophic consequence. Hot on the trail of the principal villains, Bond travels to Iceland where he experiences at first hand the power of an amazing new weapon before a dramatic confrontation with his main adversary back in Korea where it all started.

All of those details have previously been reported by CommanderBond.Net.

If you're interested in seeing scans of two pages from the press release you can click here and here. Those images were provided by our partner site, MI6.

A big thanks to Tim for giving us the details about the news! You can discuss the details in this thread of the Bond 20 Forums, see you there!

  6. Spy Report: Details On The Photos From Pinewood Studios

    By daniel on 2002-01-29

These photos have recently been leaked from Pinewood Studio's where James Bond 20 is currently filming.

To look in depth at these photos we have to issue a spoiler warning, believe me there are plenty of them. So for those of you who don't want Bond 20 spoilt (and I must warn, there are plot issues in this report) I advise you don't highlight the following text.

To begin with, fan speculation that these photos originate from the pre-title sequence are true. The photos have been taken of a set that has been built at Pinewood Studios to represent the demilitarised zone inbetween South and North Korea.

Pierce Brosnan is in costume in these photos, however, the photos have been taken inbetween filming and the scarf which is around Brosnan’s neck will not be featured in the film.

To continue on we have to reveal more details of the pre-title sequence of Bond 20. James Bond is undercover in this scene, investigating Colonel Moon of the North Korean Army. As a part of this investigation 007 has gone undercover with the alias Mr Van Beere (we’re not 100% sure on the spelling of that name).

In order to get close to Colonel Moon, Bond, as Van Beere, is conducting some business with him. We’re not sure what it is, but Bond/Van Beere must pay Moon as substantial amount of money. However, the paymet is to be in diamonds. The diamonds are transported by Bond/Van Beere in a silver suitcase, which can be seen above between Pierce Brosnan’s legs. Bond/Van Beere arrives in the demilitarised zone by helicopter which is seen on Brosnan’s right in the lower of the three photos.

Upon arriving in the demilitarised zone Bond/Van Beere is ‘greeted’ by Colonel Moon’s troops who are, of course, predominantly Korean. Some of these troops can be seen in the photo above. While Moon’s main henchman, Zao, is in this scene he’s not obviously featured in any of these photos.

While I could go into further details about the pre-title sequence and what occurs during it enough details have been reported enough to explain what exactly is happening in the photos.

But you're free to speculate in this thread of the Bond 20 Forums.

In finishing this report I must thank my sources Brosnan's Hair and Indigo for helping me out with gathering information on the photos.

  7. Photo From The Pinewood Studios Bond Set

    By daniel on 2002-01-29

Photos have just come in to Bond 20 @ CommanderBond.Net thanks to our partner site MI6. I am still confirming with sources the exact details of these photos, however, I can tell you right now that they come from the pre-title sequence of Bond 20.

Take a look for some very interesting details in those pictures now. Or discuss them in this thread or this thread in the Bond 20 Forums.

    Stay tuned for the commentry.

  8. Eon Confirm Will Yun Lee As Cast Member

    By daniel on 2002-01-26

Eon Productions have confirmed that Asian American actor Will Yun Lee is a cast member of Bond 20 to news source Ananova.

CommanderBond.Net were the first to report the news and manage to confirm his involvement.

Eon have, however, refused to reveal the character which Lee will be playing according to Ananova. We do, however, have two reports on that matter here and here and there is the added possibility that Lee will be playing a character known as Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read General Moon rather than Colonel Moon.

  9. Official Site Updates Again

    By daniel on 2002-01-26

The official James Bond site has updated with production newsflash four. The newsflash looks at the filming of “Scene 135" of Bond 20, which involves M's office at MI6. Present in the scene are Colin Salmon (his head strangely cut off in the given picture) who plays Robinson and Samantha Bond who plays Miss Moneypenny.

There an interesting line in the newsflash that may lead to speculation about Bond 20. "We’re in Moneypenny’s office and Colin Salmon as Robinson is his way through to see M. Elle Sparks had written in to ask what was happening with Moneypenny and the answer is lots! Samantha Bond takes the character a little further this time with some interesting results."

The official site has also confirmed that Rosamund Pike will no longer be playing Gala Brand as the character has had a name change to Miranda Frost. CommanderBond.Net revealed that news sometime ago now after looking into the matter. The reason for the change? "In the end, it was decided that, although it was nice to resurrect the name from MOONRAKER, this character is so completely different it was better to give her a new name. Believe me, when you see how she first reacts to James Bond, you’ll appreciate what an appropriate surname it is!" Her reaction to Bond seems a lot like the reaction Bond receives from another young scientist named Dr Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough.

Finally comes confirmation that Jack Wade will not be returning to the series and that Christian Wagner will be editing Bond 20.

Aside from that look out for the numerous mistakes throughout the report. For instance Bond works for MI6 and not M16 and the character Jack Wade last appeared in Tomorrow Never Dies and not GoldenEye.

You can discuss the newsflash in this thread of the Bond 20 Forums! See you there!

  10. Spy Report: With The Flick Of A Switch

    By daniel on 2002-01-24

Sometimes when James Bond gets into a tricky situation you can be sure that a Q-Branch Gadget that he has on hand will save his life. However, some of the more interesting moments (and fascinating) have been the times when Bond has modified a gadget and used it for a purpose it wasn’t wholly intended for. For instance, in Tomorrow Never Dies Bond uses his mobile phone to gain access to Gupta’s safe, however, he used the screen of the mobile phone in a way not originally intended.

Today, comes news of a similar scene from our source Brosnan’s Hair, however, with Bond 20 reportedly receiving continual re-writes it’s very possible that this small scene may be excluded from Bond 20.

All the same, while this report doesn’t add to the plot of Bond 20 people may not with to read it, so those who do will have to highlight it.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

As a part of Bond 20 it seems there will obviously be a car chase with Bond’s Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. Rumours have persisted from the media that this chase will take place on ice, our source Brosnan’s Hair confirms this to be the case.

The ejector seat in the Aston Martin will make a welcome return to Bond 20; a tad of nostalgia considering it first appeared in the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger. The ejector seat will help Bond out of a sticky situation, but in a completely different way to what it was originally intended for.

At one stage of this chase Bond’s Vanquish is flipped onto its roof by a close by explosion. In order to place the Vanquish back on its wheels Bond activates the ejector seat, flipping the car over and allowing him to continue the chase.

For what promises to be a very promising sequence we can offer you these storyboards. However, we must warn you, they’re not the real deal. They were created by our resident graphic (and other) talent Rory Couper.

As the image also contains spoilers you’ll have to click on the fuzzy version to reveal the proper graphic.

A big thanks to Rory Couper for that excellent storyboard sequence. If you’d like to discuss this small snippet of news be sure to do so in the Bond 20 Forums, especially in this thread, which I just started. See you there!
