  1. Bond Production Delayed Two Weeks For Brosnan Due To Injury

    By David Winter on 2002-02-19

Brosnan has suffered a knee injury while filming an action scene for Bond 20.

JamesBond.com have issued a statement on the site with the following:

MGM and producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, issued the following statement concerning the filming of Bond 20 at Pinewood Studios:

SINCE ASSUMING THE ROLE OF JAMES BOND, PIERCE BROSNAN HAS ALWAYS PURSUED THE CHARACTER WITH EXTREME PHYSICALITY. ON FRIDAY, BROSNAN SUSTAINED A KNEE INJURY DURING AN ACTION SEQUENCE INVOLVING WATER. HE IMMEDIATELY MET WITH DOCTORS WHO RECOMMENDED THAT HE HAVE SURGERY TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER DAMAGE.

DUE TO THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, BROSNAN WILL BE RETURNING TO THE SET ON MARCH 4TH. THIS INCIDENT WILL NOT DELAY THE PLANNED RELEASE DATE OF NOVEMBER 2002.

We wish PB the very best at recovering from the injury.

  2. Madonna's Involvement Still Remains Unknown

    By daniel on 2002-02-19

James Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli has refused to confirm reports that singer Madonna would perform the title sequence according to news source Ananova. Despite this, a spokesperson for Madonna has already confirmed she is signed to the project according to the BBC.

Broccoli told Ananova that Madonna's involvement with Bond 20 remains "a possibility" which seems to indicate that no contract has actually been signed or that Eon Productions would possibly want a larger media release before announcing Madonna's involvement.

If you'd like to discuss this news please visit this thread of the Bond 20 Forums where a discussion about Broccoli's announcement is on-going.

  3. UK Beach To Double As Korean Coast

    By David Winter on 2002-02-15

Ananova is one of the many news sites to speculate that a Newquay beach in the UK is to feature as a Korean coastline for the opening sequence of Bond 20.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

Holywell beach in Newquay is to be turned into a Korean battle field. We have, possibly, already seen a picture of Lee Tamahori and the crew at the beach in one of the first photos released by jamesbond.com.

In this picture, we can see the sand dunes in the background.

The beach’s life-saving club house is to be transformed into a pill box, the chairman of the club, Peter Herman stated.

The beach will also have a small forest incorporated into its dunes, which will feature explosions in a “commando-style assault”.

Ananova report that Pierce Brosnan will not be on scene – a stunt double will stand in for him.

Be sure to talk about this at this topic in the Bond 20 forums.

  4. JAMESBOND.COM UPDATE: Hovercraft Opening Sequence

    By David Winter on 2002-02-15

Newsflash #7 is now up over at jamesbond.com and gives us some great news about the hovercraft chase sequence.

First off, Michael Wilson clears up the confusion of "Zao" – the character being played by Rick Yune. It's a Chinese surname, as Hyun Chung pointed out to Yarborough, however, Michael Wilson had the answer:

“The Koreans we have on the picture, both cast and advisors, tell us that many people in North Korea have Chinese names. For this reason we’ve decided to use the name ‘Zao’.”

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

Yarborough doesn’t seem to tell us anything we haven’t reported, except that Will Yun Lee is a Martial Arts teacher, and that he “won’t be having too much of a problem with the fight scenes even though some of them will take place on board the hovercrafts”. I’m guessing from this, that we’ll be seeing Colonel Moon throwing punches aswell as Zao and his men.

We learn a bit more about how Bond escapes; he jumps onto a moving hovercraft, not much more than that is clear though. But I’m guessing someone is driving the hovercraft when he does. These fight scenes are to take place on the hovercrafts aswell as anywhere else.

Yarborough has enlightened us into how many hovercrafts will be in the sequence; 5, one large and four smaller.

The crew had to make the smaller ones (10 in the end, I’m guessing a few are going to get a bit smashed up) from a commerical design, and was able to buy 2 larger ones.

Some of the hovercrafts have been fitted with roll cages, and Yarborough seems to hint that these are going to be used; “Judging from the storyboards I’ve seen for this sequence, those roll bars will be very useful!”.

We'll although not a large article by Yarborough, we do get a larger insight into, what seems to be, the greatest ever opening sequence!

  5. Spy Report: Setting A Wave In Motion

    By daniel on 2002-02-11

Another spy report comes online today, this time thanks to Brosnan’s Hair. The information deals with a gadget that will be featured in Bond 20 and used Bond; another words it comes from Q-Branch!

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

A surfing sequence has long been known to be a part of Bond 20. We’ve seen a solitary photo of action from the sequence, we’ve heard rumours that agent James Bond will be one of those people on a surfboard; we’ve also heard rumours as to why Bond is on the surfboard in the first place. But today we’re going to look at the surfboard in depth, because thanks to Brosnan’s Hair we can say that Bond’s surfboard comes from Q-Branch.

So what does the special surfboard have? Well as we’ve reported in the past it will come with a secret compartment, which can hide a weapon. While logistics would say it would have to be a small weapon (perhaps Bond’s Walther P99) rumour has it that Bond’s opponents may actually have an array of bigger firepower indicating Bond too might need something more powerful.

What is completely new to us is that the surfboard will have a secret engine installed in it, giving Bond the obvious advantage over the villains pursuing him.

Resident artist Rory Couper has created the following image to give us all an idea of what this gadget may look like. You’ll have to click on it to view it.

Again a big thanks to Brosnan’s Hair for making this report possible!

  6. Spy Report: Diamond In The Roth

    By daniel on 2002-02-10

This spy report comes to us from Mr Potato Head and is a follow up to a previous Spy Report entitled Open And Closed Case 007.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

    In the previous spy report we had reported;

…Zao, Colonel Moon’s main henchmen, was standing a tad to close to the exploding suitcase. As a result one side of his face is bloody mess, it also glitters a bit. That’s a result of the diamonds now embedded in his face…

Mr Potato Head tells us that something slightly different occurs. While the case does explode it isn’t actually Zao who ends up with a diamond crusted face, but actually another of Colonel Moon’s henchmen. This one, apparently aged in his late 40’s, possibly 50’s.

Just a small clarification. I guess we’ll have to wait for Bond 20 for the full details. However, the difference does highlight one thing about Bond 20 news, it can’t always be 100% accurate.

If you'd like to discuss this clarification please visit this thread of the Bond 20 Forums!

  7. Bond 20 Storyboards And Sets

    By daniel on 2002-02-10

German magazine 'Moviestar' has today published details on James Bond 20 after gaining access to Pinewood Studio's and the 007 Stage, presumably around the time of the press conference. Tim, from all time high has sent in some extracts from the article to us. Some of the details contained in the extracts could be considered spoilers, though only one deals with the plot in a very minor way.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read

This impression gets stronger, if you look inside the office of production designer Peter Lamont. Most of the storyboards and drafts betray a lot of scenes which will be in Bond 20. A chase by hovercraft will take place, and beyond this storyboard you can see drafts of futuristic looking armours which could be taken from “Star Wars”. Opposite you discover drafts for another gigantic building: a diamond mine under a big glass cupola.

While previous spy reports I’ve posted have indicated the involvement of diamonds in Bond 20, a diamond mine is a completely new idea. To date, I don’t I’ve read anything along those lines. However, the “big glass cupola” does appear to have similarities with the Eden Project which has been rumoured as a filming location for Bond 20.

Toby Stephens plays a traitorous villain called Gustav Graves.

There is the sole plot spoiler for this report. It’s interesting to note the use of the word ‘traitorous’. Official press releases have used a similair tact saying that the characters Jinx and Miranda Frost would help Bond reveal a traitour. We’ll wait and see.

Finally Lee Tamahori has again commented on the effects of the events of September 11 on Bond 20

Lee Tamahori: “After September 11th most people said, ‘now we need a man like Bond’. We racked our brains, if the international situation at the moment should have influence on Bond 20. But we made the decission that we won’t reflect the up-do-date happenings, we only want to offer diversion.

Only one new picture was featured in the article. It has been taken from outside the sets, possibly on the 007 Stage.

If you'd like to discuss this report, please head over to this thread of the Bond 20 Forums!

  8. Madonna Confirmed For Bond 20 Song

    By daniel on 2002-02-09

Madonna's publicist has confirmed that the artist will record a song for Bond 20 to Ruteurs. However, news that Madonna would be also making a cameo appearance has turned out to be false as I suspected. Her publicist said, "She is doing a song for the film but she won't be acting"

While it seems likely that Madonna will record the title track for the film, her publicist has said it's unknown. Also unknown by the public is the title of the track, however, I strongly believe that a title is now known by the production team.

News that Madonna would be a part of Bond 20 was first reported by CommanderBond.Net on two days ago.

  9. Photos From The Sets Of Bond 20

    By daniel on 2002-02-08

'Absolutely James Bond' have posted several pictures from around the sets of James Bond. The pictures themselves reveal very little about Bond 20 (unless you know what you're looking at), however, spoiler warnings still apply.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

This may be the most interesting of all the photos. AJB007 have reported that the images is of Colonel Moon’s headquarters in the demilitarised zone of Korea. The solid-looking building is in fact a set that has been built on the backlot of Pinewood Studio’s. Reportedly this photo was taken after the filming of key scenes of Bond 20 so the building is already showing battle scars (not visible from this angle). Barely visible is a barbed-wire fence and also in almost dead centre is a tank (perhaps a water tank?).

Again this is another image of Colonel Moon’s base. Of particular interest in this photo is the gaurd tower on the right hand side of the image, and also the large amount of wooden crates stored in Moon’s base. The crates possibly contain weapons and ammunition.

This image is of one of the hovercrafts used in the pre-title sequence. Notice the military colours of the vehicle? Moreover, if you look carefully at the fan part of the hovercraft you’ll see that the hovercraft is showing signs of damage, namely an explosion.

That's all for now. But be sure to pay a visit to 'Absolutely James Bond' to check out some of the other photos they've posted! Until then you can discuss these photo's in this thread of the Bond 20 Forums! Thanks to 'Morton Slumber' for alerting us to the news!

  10. Filming Snow Scenes For Bond 20 In Norway

    By daniel on 2002-02-08

The Norwegian newspaper 'Dagbladet' has today reported that Jostedalen in Sogn in Norway may be used as a filming location for Bond 20. The scene is question was originally meant to be filmed in Iceland, however, lack of snow of all things has forced the 2nd Unit to look elsewhere to films parts of the scene.

The scene that will be filmed in Norway is apparently a scene Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)a car chase occurs on a frozen lake. The car chase does invovle Bond and the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. ‘Dagbladet’ has reported that Bond’s enemies will be driving Jaguars in this scene and also “flying snowscooters”. Further details on the scene have surfaced, however, I'm not sure about their accuracy.

'Dagbladet' has further reported that Johnny Flaten, from the Norwegian company Fjordfilm, has been on a weeks sightseeing with "the head of production" on Bond 20, however, the article doesn't comment on who that actually is. With Lee Tamahori busy at Pinewood I suspect it would most likely be Michael G Wilson or Barbara Broccoli. Flaten will apparently be in charge of the operation if the deal is closed. According to Flaten, there will come more than 160 crewmembers to Norway, including Brosnan. A Norwegian crew will be invovled in the filming, however, no extras will be needed for the scene.

Personally I've been told that EON had also considered Alaska as a possible location, 'Dagbladet' concurs, however, they've commented Alaska is no longer an option. No reason is given. Producers have also reportedly considered Svalbard, but this would be to complicated, logistic-wise.

If filming in Jostedalen goes ahead it will commence in mid-March.

A big thanks to Jonas and 'GOR' for the tip off on the news, and Brosnan's Hair for some other info! If you'd like to discuss it please visit this thread of the Bond 20 Forums!
