  2. Martin Kemp To Be James Bond 6?

    By David Winter on 2002-03-18

The Sunday People has reported that former Eastender's bad boy; Martin Kemp, who played the sinister Steve Owen, is in with a chance of being the next James Bond, after Pierce Brosnan steps down from the role.

Kemp's agent has speaken to "the people who make the Bond films", (one would assume he means producers: Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson). He told the British tabloid, that they had taken his suggestion on board. He goes onto say that he thinks:

"He would make a great James Bond – he's got the looks and the screen presence."

Martin left British soap:Eastenders, after four years of playing the smooth talking, and devious character of Steve Owen. Thought by many as the best character in the show, Martin Kemp, does have the right qualities to make it as the next Bond. I have heard many people comment that he would be perfect for the role, and the best successor for Irish-born; Pierce Brosnan.

You can read the report here.

  3. HMS Fearless To Be Decommissioned

    By daniel on 2002-03-18

The BBC has reported that HMS Fearless is to be decommissioned.

    HMS Fearless

HMS Fearless appear in 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me making her popular amongst Bond fans. Originally the Royal Navy had planned a £2 million refit of HMS Fearless, however, in the end cost cutting won through. As a result HMS Fearless is returning to Portsmouth to be decommissioned.

She was completed in 1965 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast and is the only steam-powered vessel in the fleet. Due to be decommissioned as early as the 1980's it was the Falkland War that saved her and she became an integral part of the British Fleet invovled in the war.

While the HMS Fearless will be decomissioned she will forever live on in the medium of film thanks to the efforts of Cubby Broccoli and all the crew of The Spy Who Loved Me.

Thanks to John for letting us know.

  4. Explosive 'DAD' Dialogue Revealed

    By daniel on 2002-03-18

To begin with Oh My God. Now I've got that out of the way, I want to say it again. But I shant bore you. Rather I'll get on with it.

Could Die Another Day get much better? 60 Minutes have just finished an interview with Dame Judi Dench, who plays M in the recent James Bond films, and showed actual footage from Die Another Day. What's more it has some explosive dialogue. To continue, highlight to read!

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

This scene takes place in the British Underground (underground railway network). I’ve been made aware that scenes were being filmed (the sets had been built at Pinewood) and I’m told that some part of this scene invovles a hidden base, belonging to MI6, which can only be access from a secret door somewhere in the tube. Those details are, however, sketchy at best.

What is more important is the dialogue in this scene, which takes place between M and Bond.

Bond: “You burn me…now you want my help.”

M: “You didn’t expect an apology”.

Could die another day get more explosive?? ‘MacGyver’ describes the scene like this:

A short scene with Judi and Brosnan in a subway terminal. 007 looked like 007 in a suit, tie, and jacket….no visible scars, etc. like we make expect from his capture/torture. He was talking to M. He circled M slowly saying “You burned me, and now you need my help.” looking into her eyes all the time. Another quick shot showed them walking through another subway tunnel, no dialogue.

So what do I think about the scene? Definetley a reference to Bond’s capture in Korea. You may remember speculation that his presence was alerted to Colonel Moon thanks to NSA Agent Damian Falco? Well, while that is still speculation, it seems certain that M was aware of Bond’s imminent capture and allowed it to happen.

Also it the dialogue suggests that Bond may not return to MI6 after his release from North Korea.

Die Another Day is going to be huge!! A big thanks to 'MacGyver', Frank, 'Zencat' and 'bondizback' for letting us know about the footage.

If anyone happened to tape the footage and could pass it on to me, please e-mail me at [email protected] I'd be most appreciative!

And no doubt you want to discuss this now? Please visit this thread of the Die Another Day (Bond 20) Forums! See you there!

    Updated:

    'Beamer' has sent us in further details of the 60 Minutes report. Interestingly, 'Beamer' has a slightly different twist on the dialogue;

Beamer here. Just got finished watching the news program “60 Minutes”, which airs in the United States, and they had a 20 minute segment on Dame Judi Dench. They showed about 30 seconds of behind-the-scenes footage on DIE ANOTHER DAY. This footage showed the London Subway set at Pinewood, which
had been rumored as a set a few months ago. Pierce as Bond, dressed in his Brioni clothing, meets Judi as M in the subway set. Here’s the dialogue exchanged between the two:

BOND: You burned me. And now you want my head.

M: Did you expect an apology?

The footage went on to show the two of them walking and talking through the subway station. Lee Tamahori was behind the camera directing them.

It’s interesting to note that Beamer took the dialogue as “you want my head” rather than “you want my help”. Personally, I can see “you want my help” as the more correct, but we’ll see which way it falls!

On another note Beamer has told us this of the rest of the report.

The interview went on to show journalist Ed Bradley asking Dench these questions about Bond:

ED BRADLEY: The Bond films. Why do them?

JUDI DENCH: Well. Wouldn’t you want a huge following of dumbstruck 11-year-old boys following you about?

ED BRADLEY: But given your stage experience, you didn’t look down upon it?

JUDI DENCH: Oh, I wouldn’t dream of doing that. I wouldn’t look down on anything.

Again if anyone can pass on the interview in any audio or visual form please contact me, [email protected]

Thanks to 'Beamer' for sending in those further details!

    Updated (Again!):
'Beamer' has just written back into us after rewatching the footage. He concedes the word is 'help' and not 'head' as he had first though.

Also Absolutely James Bond have reported the dialogue with the following actions Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) Bond circles M slowly and gives her an angry glare. Bond: “You burned me, and now you want my help.” M: “You didn’t expect an apology, did you?” They exchange angry glances and walk away in opposite directions.. The two descriptions of physical actions really help set a context for the scene!

Here's hoping that we can get a copy of the scene online sometime soon! Again if you think you can help, please e-mail me [email protected]

  5. Filming Competition Backs Off

    By daniel on 2002-03-17

It now seems that Die Another Day will have few major rival films to open against this November. The new Star Trek film Star Trek Nemesis and Red Dragon (the Silence Of The Lambs prequel) have all changed their release dates away from the Thanks Giving Day weekend.

This is of course great news for Bond, however, he'll still have to fend off Harry Potter in Die Another Days second week run.

Thanks to 'Morton Slumber' for letting us know. You can discuss it in this thread of the Die Another Day (Bond 20) Forums.

  6. Vote For 'DAD' As Anticipated Film Of 2002

    By daniel on 2002-03-17

The BBC are currently holding an Internet poll to find 2002's most anticipated film. The short list includes, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and James Bond 20: Die Another Day just to name a few.

Sadly, Die Another Day is currently sitting in fourth position with only 5.13% of the vote. So please vote for Bond here! And let's move him up the list!

  7. Mexican Actor Joins The Cast…

    By David Winter on 2002-03-17

Yahoo! Argentenia reports that Mexican actor; Emilio Echevarría is set to appear in the 20th James Bond film: Die Another Day.

Tim Roth from the007generation first reported this news on the forums, and has provided us with the following translation of the most interesting part of the article.

In the twentieth film of 007 the Mexican actor will interpret a Cuban detective who appears in only two scenes of the film. One of the sequences will roll in London and the other in the Spanish locality of Cadiz

We have already heard rumours of Bond (or another character) being hospitalized in a high-tech Cuban hospital. With this latest news, it could seem that Bond is interrogated while he is there.

Thanks again to Tim, who has started this topic in the forums. Head over there now, if you would like to discuss the news.

  9. Official Site Updates With News And Views From Iceland

    By daniel on 2002-03-14

The official James Bond site have today updated with news on filming in Iceland, which appears to be everyones favourite topic right now bar the recent announcement of the title Die Another Day.

The main details revealed in the report is that the car chase which takes place on the ice involves Bond and Zao. It had been previously thought that Bond was actually going to be chased by Gustav Graves. This fact, however, raises an interesting notion. Possible Spoiler (Highlight To Read) Why exactly is Zao now working for Gustav Graves when originally he worked for Colonel Moon? Could this perhaps have something to do with the long rumoured facial mutation device?

Also revealed is exactly what Bond is doing in Iceland. Gustav Graves has his Ice Palace there and Bond has managed to wrangle an invitation to the palace, of course he takes is Aston Martin Vanquish along with him.

The report also details some of the technical aspects of filming in such a freezing location, around minus 10 degrees Celsius (14F), and comes with some great pictures. So check it out!

On a similair note, Yahoo Movies have also published this image of filming in Iceland. Very cool! Thanks to Tim for letting us know.
