  1. Vic Armstrong Talks 'Die Another Day' From Iceland

    By daniel on 2002-03-14

Second Unit Director Vic Armstrong, who recently won a BAFTA Award for his contribution to cinema, has spoken about filming scenes of Die Another Day in Iceland.

In the interview Armstrong has revealed he hoped that Pierce Brosnan would be able to attend filming in Iceland, "I wanted Pierce to be here, but we couldn't get him". This is due to Brosnan's knee injury, however, scenes with Brosnan in them have already been filed at Pinewood Studio's and will be inserted later.

Armstrong has also talked about how the Iceland sequence fits into the film. I personally think that some people may not want to read these details. So a spoiler warning does apply. Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) “It’s the climax to the middle of the movie. Bond is being chased and he must escape to save Halle Berry from the Ice Palace that’s about to sink.” So why is the Ice Palace sinking? Apparently it has something to do with the super-weapon that Gustav Graves is in possession of.

We've recently displayed these photos from filming.

The chase on ice involves the Jaguar XKR and the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish racing across the frozen Joekulsarlon glacial lagoon. Armstrong has said he aims to "keep the cars flowing, spinning. It will be like a ballet."

One of our sources has indicated that the sequence does go further. Not only Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) does the car chase goes across the glacial lagoon, however, one (or possibly both) of the cars will end up teetering over the edge of an iceberg. This scene will not be filmed in Iceland however, it’s already been filmed at Pinewood Studios.

Thanks to 'Beamer' and 'Mourning Becomes Electra' for the tip-off about the article!

  2. Bond's Aston Martin V12 Vanquish Registration Plate

    By daniel on 2002-03-13

It's hardly breaking news, however, it's a small piece of information that I'm sure a lot of Bond fans would be interested in. Thanks to SiCo from AJB007 we can tell you that Bond's registration plate in Bond 20 is

    KE02 EWW

So there's some trivia for your memory banks!

  3. Same Release Date In UK And US

    By daniel on 2002-03-12

Die Another Day will receive the same release date in the United States and the United Kingdom. The date will be November 22, 2002. The fact came as a part of the press release annoucning Die Another Day as the title of the 20th James Bond film.

One could speculate that Die Another Day may receive a world-wide release date. Star Wars – Attack Of The Clone is going to be release in most countries on the same day in May, so it's quite possible that Bond may follow suite. Personally, I hope so.

  4. Editorial: Are We All Happy Now

    By daniel on 2002-03-12

Well I woke up this morning (it's Australia, hence, Wednesday March 13) with the best birthday present (March 13 is my birthday!); the Bond 20 title! Die Another Day.

We've heard them all haven't we? Way back in 2000 we heard Beyond The Ice, then sometime later we were put through Beneath The Ice, Beneath The Sea and Cold Eternity. Of course there were others, Juggernaugt, Final Assignment… Really the list is endless.

But today we finally had the title announced. And is it a good title? You bet. I'm not going to pan past titles, everyone has their favourites and their dislikes. But there's something about Die Another Day which is really good. It's not entirely Fleming, one could imagine that Fleming would have penned To Die Another Day much like he didn't pen A View To A Kill, rather, he penned From A View To A Kill. No matter though, as the title is still Flemingesque.

It's good to see Die Another Day in full production now, finally with a title. Though it was late, I'm sure you'll concur, it's a great title.

  5. The Chase Begins…

    By David Winter on 2002-03-12

Vic Armstrong and the second unit of "Die Another Day", Are currently filming a dramatic car chase on a frozen lake in Iceland. The chase is to involve snow-bikes, Gustav Grave's Jaguar XKR Roadster (special edition), and the amazing Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.

Reports suggest that a stuntman is doubling for Rosamund Pike, who is playing Miranda Frost. This is not the first time a male has doubled for a female character in Bond. In GoldenEye, the pilot, who flew the tiger attack helicopter, had to have make-up, a wig, (and the rest), to make himself, look convincingly, like Famke Jannsenn's character; Xenia Onnatop.

This fantastic picture, shows the V12 Vanquish pulling a skid on the frozen lake, as you can see ice is being sliced from the ground, and flicked up at the camera. This sequence looks like it could be a much more exciting, more action-packed version of the chase from The Living Daylights.

Be sure to leave your thoughts in this thread, that "Tim007" has stated. More pictures are available at "Absolutley James Bond".

  7. Further Details On Graves And The Eden Project

    By daniel on 2002-03-12

Just a few quick bits of news to update the Bond 20 @ CommanderBond.Net archive with. Both of these were reported on the BBC and have been sent in to us by 'Gez', so thank you!

To begin with, the Eden Project will represted Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens) laboratory in Bond 20. Graves evidently controls the Ice Palace and this laboratory is just one of the rooms. It also seems that the Ice Palace will indeed involve a diamond mine as rumours have previously suggested.

So what does Graves actually do in this laboratory? Well to quote Stephens about his character Graves
    "creates…creates life"
. There's something very ominous about such a statement. What sort of life is Graves creating? He is an enviromentalist so is he just creating flaura? Perhaps a new plant species more resilliant to mankinds efforts to destroy the environment.

As 'Gez' told me about the report (which was a video and not an audio report), The reporter stressed the secrecy involved in the production and Stephens sounded like he was being deliberately cryptic. However, they showed something else that was pretty cool – the Eden Biosphere at night, lit up, while filming was taking place. The reporter commented that they weren't alllowed to watch, but they showed what was clearly the Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) silhouette of a man abseiling down the inside of the dome. An impressive detail there. It seems that Graves’ laboratory comes under attack at some stage of the film. Rumour has it that it is actually Jinx that abseil’s from the roof.

That's all that was featured! Again, a big thanks to 'Gez' for sending the report in!

  8. 'Romford Recorder' Reports On Bond 20

    By daniel on 2002-03-11

The Romford Recorder, a local paper in Essex (UK), has reported that local dancer Jane Victory has scored a role in Bond 20. Victory, aged 23, will reportedly feature in a casino scene of Bond 20. According to the Romford Recorder she's no stranger to the camera, having already starred in nine film and television projects to date.

Aside from film work on the casino scene at Pinewood Studio's Victory is also planning a working trip to China. scheduled for this November.

Thanks to 'Lucy' for sending that in to us.

  9. Spy Report: A Shot In The Dark

    By daniel on 2002-03-10

Today our sources Vanquish and Brosnan's Hair check in with details on a major scene in Bond 20. I must warn you, there are major plot elements in this report, so you'll have to highlight to read.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

The MI6 building at Vaxhaul Cross comes under attack. No, this isn’t The World Is Not Enough, this is Bond 20.

Agent James Bond 007 leaps into action. Racing through the building, leaving dead ‘terrorists’ in his wake, 007 races to save the life of his boss, M. On his way Bond comes across Charles Robinson, dead. He continues on to find M. But he gets there almost too late. And in a desperate bid to save her life Bond shoots M in the shoulder, thus throwing her to the floor and taking her out of the line of fire.

    And then everything freezes…

Okay, I used a tad of creative license there. I don’t know the full details to this scene, only that Bond does find Robinson dead and he does shoot M in the shoulder to save her life.

However, it is the fact that everything freezes that should have you asking questions. Why does everything freeze? Well Bond is actually in a Virtual Reality machine! And as soon as M is shot, the program freezes (perhaps a programming bug?)

How the scene plays out on screen we’re yet to see. Hopefully as a part of the suspense we won’t know Bond is in a VR Machine until it freezes.

For reference, the Virtual Reality set has been built and pictures on the official site have been from this scene.

Some excellent details there! A big thanks to Vanquish and Brosnan's Hair for helping out with this report! Please discuss it in this thread of the Bond 20 Forums! See you there!

  10. New Picture From Filming

    By daniel on 2002-03-10

Tim from The007Generation has sent in this photo today of filming from during the pre-title sequence.

The picture, taken during a filming break, as Pierce Brosnan is wearing a scarf (revealed to CommanderBond.Net by source Brosnan's Hair as a tell-tale sign), shows Pierce Brosnan chatting to Rick Yune (who is playing Zao). On the far right appears to be Will Yun Lee (who is playing Colonel Moon).

If you'd like to discuss this photo please visit this thread of the Bond 20 Forums.
