  1. Storyboard From Cuba Sequence Revealed

    By daniel on 2002-07-16

'Jimbo' has been nice enough to send in this storyboard from Die Another Day. It depicts some of the action which was filmed as a part of the Cuba sequence.

The action depicted shows Spoiler Warning (Highligh To Read) Jinx and Bond firing at Zao. Zao is in the helicopter and this sequence takes place after he has escaped from the special Cuban clinic. From picture we've already seen of the filmed sequence we know that Bond won't be appearing in a white tuxedo in the sequence.

Thanks to 'Jimbo' for sending that image in!

  2. Who Wrote Madonnas Dialogue?

    By daniel on 2002-07-15

There seems a presumption that Madonna will have dialogue in her cameo role in Die Another Day, it's a strong possibility. However, a few media outlets have gone as far as to say that any dialogue that shall be uttered by Madonna wasn't written by script writers Neil Purvis and Robert Wade. Frankly, I think such a suggestion is just simply wrong.

The first news on the subject was Madonna's husband, director Guy Ritchie, had written the dialogue for the scene. Now comes news that Dan Cadan actually wrote the dialogue for the singers cameo role.

The news is quite obviously inaccurate. Cadan has worked on four films, and none of them as a writer. In one film he was an actor, the other three he served as crew. His connection with Madonna is due to his crew work. He worked on Snatch, Swept Away and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, three films produced and directed by Guy Ritchie.

While there is no official word on the matter, why would anyone be hired to simply write Madonna's dialogue for a cameo when Purvis and Wade could have done it themselves?

Thanks to 'Colonel Moon' for sending in the Dan Cadan news.

  3. 'A View To A Kill': Evolution Of An Ad Campaign

    By johncox on 2002-07-14

Our look at the evolution of a films advert campaign continues today with this look at A View To A Kill.

The concept design for the AVTAK campaign suggests Grace Jones will feature prominently.

The breath-taking Advance-A poster used an image of Moore from Octopussy.

The Advance-B poster pitches the Bond/May Day match up…

The final US one-sheet… but where’s May Day?

The Thai version combines the 3 U.S. posters into one and uses a small amount of original art.

A rare UK one-sheet returns to the simple Bond/May day match up.

This German poster combines the Advance-B poster and the final US one-sheet.

AVTAK comes to TV and gets a new tag line (that's quite a mouthful). Whatever happened to less is more?

The AVTAK DVD gets a new title logo and uses a pic of Moore from Octopussy. The question is, why?

  4. Goldmember Pays Homage To Live And Let Die

    By daniel on 2002-07-14

Rich has sent us in this information on a scene in the forthcoming Austin Powers Goldmember that spoofs Live And Let Die. I've seen the scene myself, I'm sure most of us have, and I agree with Rich on this one!

GOLDMEMBER spoofs Bond in many ways I’m sure, but the one scene I saw recently parodied a scene from LIVE AND LET DIE. Only true diehard 007 fans would probably even notice the comparison. In the scene set inside a Japanese sauna, Austin Powers runs to escape Fat Bastard. To get to the other side of the room he is in the fastest way possible, Powers notices 4 men floating in a large Jacuzzi, then climbs the steps and leaps from one person’s chest to the next! Each person spits water out of their mouth as he steps on their chest. This scene parodies the one in which Moore escapes from an alligator pool by stepping on the backs of gators to reach land.

Goldmember is released next week and will have a trailer for Die Another Day attached to it! More on that soon!

Big thanks to Rich for spotting the homage/spoof and sending it in to us!

  5. Exciting New Covers Revealed For Penguin US Editions

    By Evan Willnow on 2002-07-13

Our own John Cox (aka zencat) has reported in to tell us that Barnes And Noble has revealed the first three covers of the U.S. editions of Penguin Books re-release of the classic Fleming novels. In John's words, "I'm blown away! The original cover art very much evokes the old pulp covers and somehow I think this is just…classic!" We must say that we agree whole-heartedly with John. It appears these covers will grace the fronts of trade paper-back editions, if the price is any indictation.

    Here are the covers.

All titles are availible from Amazon.com.

It seems Penguin will be releasing these books in groups of three. And while there is no word yet to what the schedule of the releases will be, we eagerly look forward to the day the next batch is revealed.

  6. Films Final Scenes Had To Be Re-Shot…

    By David Winter on 2002-07-13

British tabloid The Sun, has today written a report detailing the filming of the closing scenes of Die Another Day. The final shots had to be done again after farmer; Emyr Brown, who had been catering for the film crew all week, drove his tractor in the backround of some of the shots.

The paper went onto mention that the producers had created a Japanease beach, complete with an oriental beach-hut. It is more than likely that the reporter; John Coles confused Japan with Korea, where Eon Productions have all ready stated the film will end.

The shot was taken from a helicopter Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) which was to film the crash of another helicopter. Minders for the cast and crew were also on hand during their week of shooting to keep star-spotters and the press well-away from the shoot and risk comprimising the ending.

One local made the joke; :“I don’t know if Emyr keeps any pigs, but he’s got a licence to swill now.”

Please feel free to discuss this news in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums!

  9. Sean Connery vs Roger Moore

    By Luke Freeman on 2002-07-12

Whatever happened to the classic one-on-one battles, arch nemesis’s, traditional rivals? Whatever happened to those memorable, blood thirsty, show no mercy rivalries that divided a nation? Coke vs Pepsi, Nintendo vs Sega, Sean Connery vs Roger Moore? In the good old 80’s everyone had their favorite from each, in fact your preference in these rivalries went a long way to defining who you were. Whatever happened to these days? I miss them. Sure these classic rivalries still exist to some extent, but they are merely shadows of their former selves. When asked, people have to think before they answer now, this never used to be the case. Those glory days are over, but there’s no use mourning the loss of our classic dust-ups for too long. It is time, ladies and gentlemen, to create some new rivalries, Bond related rivalries, that will define us, divide us, and spark debate in our hearts once more. And now, get ready to pick your preferences as we examine the Bond rivalries of the new millennium…

    Odd Job vs Roger Moore:
The Battle of the Judo Chop Masters

The Judo Chop went out of style during the early 90’s, but became popular again a few years ago thanks to Austin Powers. The two experts of the Judo chop are undeniably Odd Job and Roger Moore, but there can only be one true master. Odd Job was the original, the one who started it all, he even managed to knock out Sean Connery. But Roger Moore made the Judo chop his own during the seventies and eighties, Judo chopping his way to stardom in seven 007 films. A strong case can be argued for both sides. Who do you pick?

Wint & Kidd vs Bambi & Thumper:
The Battle of the Tag Teams

Ah, the classic tag team, it brings a tear to your eye. For the unfamiliar a tag team is two people who, individually, wouldn’t be a threatening presence to a fly, but put them together, and for some unknown reason they become a powerful force. There are two types of tag teams, plutonic ones, and lovers. Lovers are the most dangerous, because if you set fire to one of them, the other goes nuts and try extra hard to kill you. Wint and Kidd were the latter, thet’s why they were constantly able to knock out Bond and put in traps he could easily get out of. It’s hard to tell which type of tag team Bambi and Thumper were though.

    Rosie Carver vs Paris Carver:
    The Battle of the Carvers

Rosie Carver, the bumbling, afro wearing, fake CIA agent who leaves the safety catch on guns, up against Paris Carver, the two-timing wife of media mogal Elliot. When you pick your preference for this battle, keep in mind that among other things, Rosie is scared of voodoo dolls with coconut heads, and hats belonging to little men who lose fights with chickens. Hardly a resume that with strike fear in the hearts of her opponents. It’s said that you should never discuss sports or politics with your barber, because a disagreement could lead to a bad haircut, well I think you should never discuss which Carver is better either, or you could end up having to wear a hat 24/7 for the next fortnight.

    Sean Connery vs Roger Moore:
    The Battle of the Bonds

The old classic. Some people think that this rivialry has had its day, because while they were the only two (serious) Bonds back in 1983, today things have changed. The young generation have been brought up on Pierce Brosnan, and many a novel reader mark Timothy Dalton as the pick of the crop. Personally, I don’t think this is true, Connery vs Moore still has its place in rivialry folklore. Its still the raging debate over who gets to wear the James Bond crown and be King of the 007s. Connery has a huge following for his woman slapping, macho yet sohpistical style, while Moore has many fans in his corner who gaze in awe at his eyebrow raisng, quick witted take on the role. Some polls may have Connery slightly in front, but I think that this is a battle that may never be truely resolved, a classic battle that will outlive the two actors concerned, and probably outlive us all.

    Until next time,

    Freemo

  10. 'Die Another Day' Novelisation For Sale Across The Net

    By daniel on 2002-07-11

Zencat has been doing some homework on the Die Another Day novelisation and has come up with some places to pre-order and some interesting release dates:

Amazon.co.uk has now listed both the UK hardcover and the UK paperback up for pre-order. The hardcover is selling at £18.99 and the paperback at £5.59. The latter already has a 20% discount, so it could be a good idea to pre-order now.

Amazon.co.uk has given both the books a 7 November 2002 release date.

Amazon.com has only got the US paperback listed at the moment. They have it selling at $6.99 and with a simple November 2002 release date.

However, it is Barnes & Noble who have got the interesting release date for the US paperback. They’re claiming it will be shipped on October, almost a full month before the release of Die Another Day!

Barnes & Noble have also listed for pre-order the audio CD and cassette of the novelisation, selling for $23.96 and $19.96 respectively. And again there is an October release date!
