2. ECTS NightFire Trailer

    By David Winter on 2002-09-13

Gamespot have published the NightFire trailer that was shown at ECTS.

The trailer is available for download from the PC, X-Box and Gamecube gamespaces on the Gamespot website. However, after watching the trailer – it’s hard to tell if this trailer is for all versions, or just for one of the console versions featureing the driving levels, as clips of this part of the game are shown.

The clips from the driving levels look absolutely fantastic – and for a PC gamer, like myself, it’ll be a big shame not to see them in the PC version (however, we’ll have a better mulitplayer game than the consoles!).

We see the driving levels in two different perspectives, 3rd and 1st person. If you’ve played “Command & Conquer Renegade” – you’ll know that in this game you can switch between the perspectives as there are tactical advantages to do so in certain parts of gameplay. I’m assuming this will be done with the driving levels – you can either be seated inside the Aston Martin Vanquish, or view it from outside, while taking out those nasty henchman.

CBn Forums user, “JLMuench” recently posted a snippet from the Official Playstation 2 magazine which claims that the main aspect of gameplay, while in Bond’s shoes, will also have a 3rd person perspective:

“The rationale behind it was that in some situations you want to increase the drama by forcing the players view of certain things. For instance, Bond might be moving past a window and you want him to be able to see the position of the guards behind the window so that he can time his movement correctly. If you do that in first-person, you don’t know where the camera’s looking at any given moment.”

However, in this new trailer, we don’t see any of this, only a 1st person perspective. So if the news from the Official Playstation 2 magazine is correct, we may also see function where we can switch between perspectives.

  3. The Closing Of The JBIFC

    By daniel on 2002-09-10

Sadly the James Bond 007 International Fan Club, the JBIFC, have announced its closure. The website and other merchandising outlets of The James Bond OO7 International Fan Club, including ‘OO7’ MAGAZINE, have ceased to trade as of today.

The JBIFC was founded in 1979 as the British fan club and since the beginning had always published the publishing ‘Double-O-Seven’ Magazine. In 1983 The James Bond British Fan Club was taken over by Graham Rye, who remained the clubs Creative Director until its closure.

Aside from the ‘Double-O-Seven’ Magazine the JBIFC was also responsible for the holding of events at venues such as Pinewood Studios, Planet Hollywood, the Odeon Leicester Square, and The National Film Theatre and also for the creation of unique James Bond merchandise.

The JBIFC also owned a huge collection of 007 film props and other rare memorabilia. There is no word yet as to what will happen to the merchandise with the clubs closure.

It’s role in James Bond fandom will be sorely missed.

The clubs website is still in operation at http://www.thejamesbondfanclub.com and is definitely worth a look, however, the site may not remain open for much longer.

  4. Official Site Updates With Trailer No. 2

    By David Winter on 2002-09-06

The Official Site has just updated with a new Teaser Trailer! The much anticipated trailer arrived on the site today, and just after having a look at it, I must say it is excellent.

    The trailer starts with
The MGM Lion drowned out by the fanfare of the opening bars of the Bond theme, then we see a "telescope effect" around Jinx as she emerges from the water. The camera then cuts to Bond dressed in the blue summer shirt, binoculars in hand, quipping "Magnificent view…"
We then see Bond and Jinx meeting each other on the beach in Cuba, "My friends call me Jinx", Brosnan, cigar in hand replies "My friends call me James Bond," Jinx notes "That's a bit of a mouthful."

I won't synopsise the entire trailer, I'll merely note that possibly the most interesting aspect of the trailer is at the end, when Bond is seen pointing his P99 at someone off-screen, saying "So, you live to die another day…" (an obvious quote from Housman), I can only assume he is talking to Graves.
The confidence in MGMs marketing grows marginally stronger with this trailer, but, much to my chagrin, there seems to be no reference to the
three years in which bond is kept captive
, and no dramatic American voice over, as seen in the last teaser, perhaps these issues will be dwelled on in the final release trailer?

All this aside, if you want to download the excellent trailer, it is found at the Official site in both streaming Quicktime and Windows Media Formats.

The trailer is also open for discussion in this thread of the Die Another Day forums. Enjoy!

  5. The Swiss Connection

    By Luke Freeman on 2002-09-06

Everybody knows that when it comes to producing high quality watches, army knifes, cheese and bank accounts, the Swiss are miles ahead of the rest. But what allot of people who haven’t read You Only Live Twice (shame on you) don’t know is that James Bond is half Swiss, on his mothers side (and Scottish on his fathers side, but that’s not really relevant here). Had Bonds mother not died along with his father in a climbing accident when he was young, perhaps she would have encouraged her son to pursue a profession in one of the traditional Swiss dominating areas. With Swiss blood, Bond must have natural abilities in any field involving the aforementioned products. As good a spy that Bond is, he may infact be even better at army knife making or so forth, indeed 007 may be wasting his talents in the secret service, and would that be a down right shame.

To test this incredibly innovative theory (if I do say so myself, and I do), its worth taking a glance at occupations involving these four Swiss products and investigating how successful Bond would be in each of them. Perhaps the school careers adviser back at Eton should have suggested one of these areas to Bond as a possible career, then again perhaps not…

Swiss watchmaker – It’s common knowledge that there is a bloodthirsty rivalry between Switzerland and Russia when it comes to the art of watch and clock making. Remember that cocky Russian in From Russia With Love who made the rather dubious claim that Russian clocks are always correct? Didn’t you just want punch his head in? It makes one think that this long running war would make Bond, who has taken on the Russians on many a mission, feel right at home in field of time telling device construction. But I’m sure that once word of Bond previous spy exploits got around the Swiss watch making community, they would have him on the next plane to Russia on an undercover mission to steal watch blue prints and sabotage watch making operations, and Bond would find himself back in the world of espionage, if on a slightly different scale.

Swiss army knife assembler – The craft of army knife assembling required that utmost concentration. Many eyes, fingers and other body parts have been needlessly lost on the job due to the recklessness of inexperienced army knife makers. Would Bond suffer a similar fate? Would he crack under the pressure, mixing up the scissors with the screwdriver and forgetting to put in the corkscrew completely, or would he thrive on it? He has performed in similar high stakes positions before, like when he disarmed the nuclear device during The Spy Who Loved Me. But he’s getting old now and his memory isn’t what it once was, as seen recently in The World is Not Enough, forgetting his nuclear disarming capabilities. Employers would be therefore reluctant to take him on, fearing that he may also have a memory lapse when it comes his army knife constructing skills, and be forced to call upon the help of Dr Christmas Jones.

Swiss cheese producer – If you thought that Agent Under Fire was a good game, then imagine how much better it would have been if Bond was a cheese maker instead of a spy. But I’m afraid it’s not quite as simple as that. The skill of cheese making is something that can’t be taught, you either have if or you don’t, the question on everyone’s lips being “Does Bond have it?”. Yes, Bond did display a love for food in A View to a Kill when he made that omelette, but his close minded, juvenile expressions towards the sheep’s head served to him at the dinner table in Octopussy shows that he is an uncultured swine, and totally unworthy to socialize in the exclusive circle of the cheese making community. Perhaps there was a time in the mid 70’s when he would have been accepted, but certainly not now. Sorry if that sounds a little harsh, but that’s the way I feel and I can’t help that.

Swiss Banker – We’re going to use the profession of banker here because it makes for a far more interesting analysis than that of a bank manager or teller. If you remember, Bond was quite convincing as a banker in Tomorrow Never Dies, and he does seem to have quite a fascination for figures as shown in Octopussy, perhaps the number crunching world of a banker is where Bonds real talents lie. But as a banker, Bond may have to go head to head with other bankers, some who are just as evil and sinister as say Blofeld or Goldfinger, but don’t prematurely reveal the details of their diabolcal schemes. Sadly, It could prove too much for James Bond, who is accustomed to the more relaxing and easygoing lifestyle that a spy enjoys.

It would seem that only being half Swiss isn’t enough, and it’s just as well that Bond found his calling as a secret agent. Because as a secret agent he does his country proud, something he may not be able to say with the same certainty if he were an army knife maker or a banker. But then again, we have only covered the Swiss side of Bond, don’t forget, he is half Scottish as well. Perhaps he would fare better as a bagpipe tuner or a muffin maker, then again, perhaps not.

    Until next time,

    Freemo

Dedicated to army knife assemblers everywhere.

  6. Kenneth Tsang Kong To Portray General Moon

    By daniel on 2002-09-05

Bound to cause some confusion, actor Kenneth Tsang will be seen as General Moon in Die Another Day. The news was confirmed by the BKD, German JB Fan Club.

General Moon is the father of Colonel Moon. While his son has territorial ambitions it is believed that General Moon is a peace loving member of the North Korean Army. Will Yun Lee plays Colonel Moon in the film.

While appearing in monstly non-English language films Tsang has also appeared recently in Rush Hour 2 and Anna and the King.

  7. 'Trailer B' To Premiere On ET tomorrow!

    By daniel on 2002-09-05

'john007' has written in to let us know that the second teaser trailer for Die Another Day, Trailer B, will premiere on Entertainment Tonight tomorrow.

    As usual ET have showed a slight preview which included at least three small clips;

    1. Halle Berry emerging from the water in slow motion. She was almost jumping up out of the water. It looked like she was being watched through binoculars.

    2. Halle Berry and Pierce Brosnan (Jinx and Bond) introducing themselves to each other in Cube. "My friends call me Jinx, my friends call me James Bond…"

    3. A night-time scene outside the Ice Palace where Bond comes around a car (i think) and Miranda Frost pulls hium close to him and kisses him.

If you'd like to discuss the new trailers preview please visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums.

    By daniel on 2002-09-01

It's been promised for sometime, but MadonnaPower.com have put a rough version of the Die Another Day theme song online.

The 'rough' aspects of this version is due to the recording message, the song was is a recorded version of the theme song playing through speakers. Sadly, not dialogue in the song can be understood, however, this version does provide the general 'gist' of how the final version will sound.

Visit MadonnaPower.com's Media Section to download the rough version.

If you'd like to discuss it, please do so in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums.
