  1. CBn Forum Member Suggestion Makes The Cut In 'By Royal Command'

    By Matt Weston on 2008-09-07

Never underestimate the power of a James Bond fan.

    Charlie Higson’s By Royal Command

In an upcoming interview on The Young Bond Dossier, bestselling novelist Charlie Higson reveals that a suggestion made by CommanderBond.net Forum member “Trident” made the cut in his newly-released Young Bond novel, By Royal Command.

In February 2007, “Trident” suggested Young Bond ought to have a timepiece: “One thing I noticed during reading Blood Fever is that James is on serveral occasions wondering what time it is. As I haven’t read Higson’s third book up to now, I don’t know if he already gave Bond his (first?) wristwatch. If not, here is my personal suggestion for a proper watch for 1930s Bond. It’s a Mido Multifort, introduced in 1934, the first automatic, anti-magnetic, water-proof (up to 30 metres; perfectly sufficient back in those days), and shock resistant watch of its time.”

Released last week, By Royal Command sees James Bond obtaining exactly this watch!

Higson explains to the Young Bond Dossier, “I think for the real Bond purists I should have given him a Rolex because that’s his iconic watch. But I sort of love the idea of the Multifort. It just looked like a really interesting watch. And I think, for the time, it is the right watch for him to have. And it’s a nice little nod to CBn.”

A very flattering remark from Charlie Higson that shows precisely the quality of the fans on the CommanderBond.net Forums!

  3. Pre-order 'My Word Is My Bond' Limited Edition

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-09-06

A limited signed and slipcased edition of Sir Roger Moore’s upcoming autobiography, My Word Is My Bond, is available for pre-order.

Hatchards Bookshop is currently accepting orders for this special edition of My Word Is My Bond, which is signed, numbered out of 1,000 and presented in a slipcase.

This limited edition hardback will retail for £35 and is due for release in October 2008. To order a copy, visit Hatchards.co.uk and access the ‘Special Editions’ section.

The quintessential suave hero, Roger Moore has had an extraordinary career that has spanned seven decades, from early television to the golden age of Hollywood and on to international superstardom.

Dashing, handsome and every inch the archetypal English gentleman, he is unforgettable as The Saint, as Lord Brett Sinclair in The Persuaders! and, of course, as James Bond, making seven blockbusting films as arguably the most debonair of the 007s.

For the first time, Roger shares his recollections of playing some of the world’s most famous roles alongside a host of legendary stars. With myriad stories from his personal life–from his childhood in London and experiences during the Second World War, to the happy and turbulent times in his later life. Along with anecdotes about his encounters with the stars and his wonderful memories from the heyday of Hollywood, My Word is My Bond is as frank, funny and disarmingly charming as the legend himself.

My Word is My Bond is scheduled for regular publication on 2 October in the UK and 4 November in the US. Pre-order online:

  5. Brands2Life To Manage 'Quantum' Game Launch

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-09-05

Brands2Life has fought off competition to land the job of managing the UK launch of Activision’s James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

PR Week reports that the agency will begin a consumer lifestyle campaign before the game is released alongside the film on 31 October.

The agency went against various specialist gaming agencies for the job. ‘One reason we won the pitch was our grasp of the Bond brand,’ said Scot Devine, co-head of consumer at Brands2Life. ‘The 007 brand is the movie world’s most protected and working on it can mean walking a real tightrope.’

The agency states that they have been given a large degree of autonomy in their marketing role.

‘The campaign is going to be media neutral, so it will run across various platforms in the media,’ said Devine. ‘There is going to be a mix of traditional, interactive and guerrilla PR, ranging from editorial in magazines to charity events held in cinemas.’

Stay tuned to the CommanderBond.net main page for the most complete and up-to-date coverage of Activision’s Quantum of Solace.

Quantum of Solace will be released on 31 October in the UK and 4 November in the US on the following formats: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS and Windows PC.

  7. 'Quantum of Solace' Shifts To 19 November Release In Australia

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-09-05
    Picture: Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig is James Bond in Quantum of Solace

In what has quickly become par for the course, another international release date for Quantum of Solace has changed.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Daniel Craig’s second James Bond film will now be released on 19 November in Australia, one week ahead of the previously announced 26 November date.

The Bond move results after 20th Century Fox decided to move Nicole Kidman’s Australia to the 26 November weekend.

Cinema executives were relieved with Sony’s decision to move 007 up a week and put some space into what will likely be two of the biggest blockbusters in the region.

‘I don’t think it makes an awful lot of sense to have two movies of that size opening against one another,’ said the managing director of the Greater Union cinema chain, Ross Entwistle. ‘It makes for a healthier market if there’s a gap between movies of that scale.’

In related release date news, two other shifts have resulted in delays for the film. Quantum of Solace has been shifted to 21 November in Spain and 14 November in Mexico (the film was previously slated to open in 7 November in both territories).

Time will only tell if that’s the last of the release date shifts for Quantum of Solace. Just keep your eyes on the CBn main page for all the latest details.
