Quantum of Solace proved once again that there is no stopping James Bond in the United Kingdom.

    Quantum of Solace

According to The Times, the latest James Bond film contributed heavily to a 5% increase in box office takings last year which led to a record £949 million total.

Daniel Craig’s second 007 entry ranked second overall with a year-end gross of £51 million. The ABBA musical comedy Mamma Mia!, starring former Bond star Pierce Brosnan, claimed the number one spot with an astonishing £69 million, becoming the biggest box office hit ever in the UK.

In third place, was The Dark Knight, which ended up with a £49 million gross.

Sean Perkins, research executive at the UK Film Council (UKFC), said: ‘Cinemagoing has tended to hold up well in a recession, but what has helped this year is that the releases have been good.’

More detailed data, including the number of admissions, is expected to be released this upcoming week by Nielsen EDI on behalf of the UKFC.

    Mission 8: Science Center Interior

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

As with the exterior of the Science Center, stealth is an important factor in this mission. Begin by heading down the hallway, descend the stairs and quietly eliminate the guard up ahead. Patch into the camera towards the right and then exit to go downstairs. Take cover immediately as soon as you see two guards in conversation up ahead on the catwalk. Taking notice of the camera, take out the guards as quickly as possible (but do note that the battle will almost assuredly bring further enemies into the room for you to deal with). Once they are all taken care of, head to the door on the left and unlock it via the keypad.

Head inside and immediately take cover as this room with several catwalks is the sight of an ambush. There are guards on all of the catwalks ahead, so take out all of them before moving up to each next point of cover. When you’re certain that all the enemies are taken care of, head to the last catwalk until you see a line of pipes for you to move across. Proceed through the balancing section to move across and then ascend the ladder on the left in the next room to enter the ventilation duct. Once in, slide down the rope ahead to lower yourself to the basement level (B1).

Unlock the door ahead and move around the corner, taking notice of a patrolling guard up ahead. You can quickly take him out just as he turns into the room up ahead. Be especially careful to not be spotted by the security camera in the corner of the next corridor. Wait until it is facing the other direction before disabling it via the box across from you. Take out another patrolling guard up ahead by the vending machine and then move through the room you can see via the windows to enter the security center from the rear. This allows you to take out any remaining enemies by surprise and prevents the chance that you’ll alert any additional guards to your whereabouts.

In the security center, access the elevator via the computer with the flashing light and then begin your ascent in the elevator when it arrives to your right. Unfortunately, the ride is not a smooth one as the enemies are prepared and they lock it down. At this point, the elevator doors will open for a brief period–but don’t rush out as there are several guards just waiting to fire at you. Remain inside and eliminate any guards that you can. After a few moments, the elevator will begin to fall. In the ceiling above you, an escape hatch will eventually open, so move through it as soon as it does. Immediately move to the ladder and climb up and out as fast as possible in order to escape from the rising explosion resulting from the crashing elevator.

Take cover as soon as you emerge from the elevator shaft. Two enemies are waiting for you, but luckily they soon get taken out by the elevator explosion. Move to the corner towards the right and take cover as you eliminate the next pair of enemies ahead. Keep proceeding forward in the hallways, taking cover as necessary to deal with the approaching enemies. There is a TLD-22 submachine gun nearby in a crate if you need it. Head back to the leftside hallway (from the elevator standpoint) and then head down the stairs.

Watch out for oncoming fire as soon as you move down the stairs. Take cover to the right of the staircase and return the fire. There are numerous guards stationed on both sides of this area, so methodically work your way up one side, eliminating everyone you come into contact with. Pay special attention to the guards firing at you from the upper level from both sides. Since you need to eliminate all the guards in this area, patience is required. Don’t head into the middle as you’ll be surrounded by men both on your level and above you. Simply work your way up one side to the opposite end of the room and do the same on the other side.

Once all of the guards are finally taken care of, the door will unlock to the nearby room where one last guard stands in your way. Quickly take him out to complete the level. Mission Complete.

According to a new Screen Daily report, Daniel Craig’s second James Bond entry ranked as the year’s top earner in the country, with a $42.5 million gross (31.5 million €).

The 007 film, along with several other box office successes such as Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Rabbit Without Ears, contributed to a 3.5% year-on-year increase in takings.

Furthermore, German film-goers bought 123.6 million tickets in the last 12 months, up 1.57% on 2007’s 121.7 million total.

Last month, it was reported that Quantum of Solace had boosted the country’s box office in the fourth quarter of 2008. The film’s $42.5 million total ranks it the third best for Bond worldwide, behind the the US and UK grosses, respectively.

    Quantum of Solace: The Game

    Mission 7: Science Center Exterior

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

Your first course of business is to take care of the sniper guards protecting the Science Center. Your map should quickly point out the first set of three on the ground level, so move into position. Every shot you take is critical here, because even one miss is sure to alert the other guards and make your job all that much more difficult. Use the command to hold your breath and don’t fire until there is a calmer moment during the rain storm.

After these three are taken care of, ascend the nearby ladder and use the billboard for cover as you take out the three rooftop snipers (they are each located the lights). With these three out of the way, head to the alley on the street level and proceed forward. You should be able to take out the first guard by the dumpster with little trouble as his back is turned to you (but watch out for the patrolling one). Then patch into the cameras on the right side (the box with the flashing light). One final guard awaits towards the end of the alley, so quickly take care of him before he gets a chance to fire and alert others to your position.

Proceed to the building door by the truck and take part in the unlocking procedure which has you press the correct buttons on the directional pad (similar to what was required to unlock the gate in Mission 1: White’s Estate). Once you’re inside, head out the door to your left and take out the two guards patrolling in this area.

Move forward until you see an additional two guards up ahead in the parking lot. Don’t rush forward as an enemy ambush is prepared for you. Instead, take cover where you are by the crates and take out at least one of the guards to trigger the ambush. Enemy attackers will approach from a variety of directions, including the very back of the parking lot as well as the truck by the loading bay. Be sure to keep your distance while attacking in order to prevent them from flanking you. There’s a chance you may run low on ammunition, so grab one of their M14s if necessary.

Once this massive attack is over, ascend the fire escape ladder by the right side of the truck and jump across to the fire escape (note that there is a D.A.D. System in the room by the foot of the stairs) and start climbing the building. Be careful not to rush past the guard that emerges from the door to your right once you reach the second level. Once you reach the ledge at the top level of the ladder, carefully move across so as not to be caught in the enemy’s spotlight. When it is safe, climb the drainpipe at the end of the ledge to reach the rooftop.

The rooftop marks another major battlepoint for this mission, so be prepared for enemies from both directions immediately upon arriving. Winning the battle is a simple case of taking cover and firing back, but not remaining in one position for too long as these guards have grenades.

Once all of these guards are taken care off, a helicopter battle sequence begins. Two guards are dropped off the first time it flies by to ambush you, so take them out as quickly as possible. Around the next bend of the rooftop are more enemies that have taken cover and are prepared for you–so grab cover and return the fire.

Continuously fire at the helicopter with the D.A.D. System, MI4 or your SAF 9mm. Watch out for guards that are dropped off when the helicopter flies directly above you. Continue your attack against it until the ending kicks in. Mission Complete.

It has been a special thrill to work on the Bond films, and we couldn’t be more excited by the success of Quantum of Solace.”
