  1. The Entrance To The Underground Revealed

    By daniel on 2002-04-16

It seems that the entrance to the MI6 Underground Station has been revealed. Earlier today, thanks to our source Mr Potato Head, we learnt that Bond Mild Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) would be seen entering the station from a public landmark. However, Mr Potato Head was vague as to what this landmark actually was.

I did some research into the area of the Piccadilly Line and the abandoned Down Street Station and I came up with three possible landmarks which are in the close vicinity; Wellington Arch, Apsley House and St. James' Palace.

    The Wellington Arch

Taking an educated guess I'm going to theorise that the Wellington Arch is our landmark, this is most notably because it is the closest of the three to Down Street as this map shows.

The Wellington Arch and Down Street highlighted in Blue

Located at Hyde Park Corner, Wellington Arch (known also as Constitution Arch or Green Park Arch), was built in 1826 as the entrance to Buckingham Palace. A statue of the Duke of Wellington was located on top of the arch until 1882 when it was relocated to Aldershot. In 1912 a statue by Captain Adrian Jones, known as 'Peace Descending on the Quadriga of War', was placed on the top. The arch was opened to the public in 2001 having undergone restoration work by the English Heritage.

So if the Wellington Arch is the mentioned public landmark, then how exactly is it a homage to a past Bond film? Well let me begin by saying that it is a homage to the first Bond film, Dr No. If you watch the scenes in Dr No's lair you'll notice a very large painting on one of his walls. This painting is actually a reproduction of the original painting, as the original was actually stolen in 1960 and to this day has never been recovered! According to Bond-lore Dr No was responsible for the theft! But that still doesn't explain the homage does it? Well yes, it does. The painting is actually of the Duke Of Wellington, who the Wellington Arch is named after!

If you'd like to discuss the homage please visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums and if you'd like to discuss the underground scene please visit this thread!

  2. Another Homage To Fleming Discovered In DAD

    By daniel on 2002-04-16

The CommanderBond.Net Forum users have done it again!

Pierce Brosnan recently revealed that Die Another Day has several "winks" to past Bond adventures. One of the most obvious is the recently revealed bikini that Halle Berry's character Jinx will be wearing, however, the forum users have recently discovered another in this picture which was recently revealed by CommanderBond.Net.

So what is the wink? It's the cigarette advert on the tunnel wall. The poster is of the Players Cigarette Boy, and he is mentioned by Domino in the chapter 'Cardboard Hero' in the novel Thunderball by Ian Fleming.

"I would like a packet of Players… I need my Hero" Domino tells Bond. Bond asks her what she means by 'Hero' and she explains, "My one true love! The man of my dreams. The sailor on the front of the packet of Players. You have never thought about him as I have… You don't understand the romance of this wonderful picture – one of the great masterpieces of this world. This man was the first I ever sinned with. I took him into the woods, I loved him in the dormatory. I spent nearly all my pocket money on him. In exchange…" And so Domino continues, for another page to be precise.

The Players Cigarette Boy plays quite a role in the character development of Domino, and here he is, in a homage in the 20th James Bond film.

To whomever working on the productions decided to include this image in Die Another Day, I tip my hat to you.

I also tip my hat to 'Mr. Solo' and 'al' who first noticed the relevance of the poster in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums.

  3. Spy Report: Accessing The Underground

    By daniel on 2002-04-16

Over the past few days CommanderBond.Net has managed to uncover some great details on the MI6 Secret Underground Station. Well one of our sources, Mr Potato Head, has just checked in with some details on how staff of MI6 can gain entrance to the station, however, Mr Potato Head is being quite elusive so we may need your help!

There is no major plot information in the following spy report so I'm sure most people will read it, however, for those who are completely spoiler conscious we've hidden the text.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

While I don’t believe we’ll see how M or Q will enter the underground station Mr Potato Head tells us that we will see Bond enter the station.

Originally the script called for Bond to enter the area from another London Underground Station, an operational one. However, this concept was changed to have Bond enter the station in a more Bond-ish way. Bond will enter the station from a well known “public landmark / structure”.

    So what is the structure?

Hopefully someone will be able to help us figure it out. If you think you know, or would like to discuss any of the news, please visit this thread in the Die Another Day Forums!

When we find out the structure, you can be sure that we'll let you know!

Finally, thanks to Mr Potato Head for sending in that information!

  4. First: MI6's Secret Underground Station Revealed

    By daniel on 2002-04-15

    Yesterday CommanderBond.Net were the first site to post this publicity image from Die Another Day;

An investigation was recently started in the thread of the Die Another Day Forums that is discussing the new images, and it's been revealed that this station that Bond and Q can be seen in is part of the Piccadilly Line. James Page suggests from the viewable sign that this particular station is Down Street.

This theory does make sense. Down Street is a part of the Piccadilly Line. Also the Piccadilly Line has been closed down since before the Second World War (hence the nostalgic posters in the background). Down Street itself was closed off in 1932 and during the Second World War was converted into offices for the Railway Executive Committee and for the War Cabinet. It is believed that Winston Churchill had an office in this section of the Underground.

Above is an image of the entrance to the Underground on Down Street as it stands today. Tourists are allowed to visit the close off section, however, there is currently a waiting list of 3,000 people.

With it's history Down Street seems the perfect place for MI6 to have a secret base.

So dont' forget to visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums to discuss this news and all the new images!

Finally, a big thanks to James Page, 'Parasyte' and 'Smitty' for their help with piecing the puzzle together. And remember, you read it first on CommanderBond.Net!

  5. Filming Continues In Spain Moving On From Cadiz

    By daniel on 2002-04-14

Filming of Die Another Day is continuing in Spain despite the First Unit returning to Britain after successful filming in the Spanish province of Cadiz.

The news was revealed by Spanish Producer Kan Zaman, who is working on the Spanish part of Die Another Day. Zaman revealed that filming will move to another Spanish province, Seville. Seville was recently used to film scenes for Star Wars Episode II. And while in Episode II it features as Naboo, a very different part of the province will feature in Die Another Day.

The particular part of Seville that the crew will film in is known as Bollullos de la Mitación. Bollullos de la Mitación is a small village that we're told is fairly rural with lots of swamps.

Zaman revealed details about what will take place in the scene. Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) The scene will feature a large helicopter (perhaps the Chinook we’ve been told we’ll see both Bond and Jinx in?) and many paratroopers. As yet there is no confirmation as to where this scene will appear in the film, however, I do have a theory! Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) As Eon Productions have already revealed that Die Another Day ends in North Korea (where it also begins) it seems quite obvious that the film will end with an attack on Colonel Moon’s Korean base. As Bollullos de la Mitación has a similair landscape to other areas where parts of Colonel Moon’s base have been filmed it seems possible that the producers are filming parts of the finale for Die Another Day..

    Filming begins in two weeks.

Thanks to 'Jaime Bond' for sending in those details. You can discuss the news in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. See you there!

  6. First: Another Picture From The Pre-Title Sequence

    By daniel on 2002-04-14

Hallalla has just sent in another picture from the pre-title sequence to CommanderBond.Net. And here it is, commentry free:

Earlier today CommanderBond.Net were the first to publish official photos from various sets of Die Another Day.

If you'd like to discuss this photo, or any of the earlier ones, please visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums.

  7. Details of DAD Footage From Greek TV

    By daniel on 2002-04-14

'Thanasis' has just sent in some details of footage from Die Another Day that recently aired on Greek telvision station Mega Channel. It seems the station have managed to get their hands on footage from the recent filming in Spain.

Well on Friday night (12th) Greek tv channel MEGA CHANNEL aired 4 minutes of footage from Die Another Day. I was quite stunned when i saw it since i had never seen them mention anything about the movie before and it was on their primetime 60 min news broadcast.

The footage consisted mainly of the hovercraft [scene which takes places in the pre-title] sequence but also showed Halle Berry in her swimsuit and Brosnan in a summery shirt.

Starting with the hovercraft sequence i must say that it does not look as good as in had imagined it to be. The scenes i saw were firstly of Brosnan running over some hovercrafts in the base area and finally hopping into one as well scenes Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) from Brosnan riding the hovercraft through a very muddy forest area with explosions and shootings going on. I am afraid that these preliminary shots do not match up to the early footage i had seen on the speedboat chase in TWINE. Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) I have to also confirm the rumour posted on this site about Ferraris appearing in the demilitarised zone are TRUE since i got a glimpse of this flashy red ferrari whilst Brosnan was dodging bullets. Throughout the hovercraft scene we saw Brosnan holding a machine gun that he kept on firing whilst aboard and driving the hovercraft. In between the footage of the pre titles sequence Brosnan comments to the camera on how bigger this film is and how many bruises it had caused him!

Finally the rest of the footage was from Cadiz where Halle Berry was swimming and then handshaking with Brosnan, as if they were meeting in some sort of cafe by the sea side. It reminded me of the scene where Connery meets Barbara Carrera in Never Say Never Again.

On a final note i have to say that although the hovercraft scenes i saw looked a bit boring, the scene should look better when completed.

Some great details from 'Thanasis'. It's interesting to note the way Bond and Jinx meet for the first time, while still a homage to Dr No their greeting isn't quite the same. It's also great to finally have more details of the pre-title sequence, especially after getting a fantastic picture earlier today.

A big thanks to 'Thanasis' for sending the report in!

  8. First: Amazing Pictures From Die Another Day

    By daniel on 2002-04-14

Every now and then (quite often actually) something comes across my desk that blows me away. Well today, one e-mail came my way that did just that.

Hallalla has sent in three pictures from various parts of Die Another Day, all seemingly future promotional photos for the film. And quite frankly, I love the images!

This first image is of Bond's hotel in Die Another Day. We recently revealed the hotel is named El Gran Palacio. If you look at the top of El Gran Palacio there are two flags flying. They are both the national flag of Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) Cuba, where scenes from Die Another Day are featured.

A Close Up Of The Top Of El Gran Palacio

    And with the next picture it only gets better;

What you're looking at above is the first photo of Die Another Day's 'Q-Branch' scene. Now we know that rather than it taking place inside MI6 it takes place in a part of the British Underground controlled by the secret service. Previously we had scene footage of a an earlier scene between M and Bond that also takes place in the secret part of the Underground.

Finally, is this amazing picture from the pre-title sequence of Die Another Day. This still shot was taken during filming at Aldershot. You'll notice Bond and the two disguised people are sitting on top of a specially designed hovercraft. Also to the right of the photo are two sports cars. This confirms CommanderBond.Net Spy Reports that Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) revealed Colonel Moon’s henchmen would all drive expensive sports cars. I'm pretty certain the green nose that is sticking out belongs to the Jaguar XKR.

Some amazing pictures there, and you saw them all first at CommanderBond.Net! A big thanks to Hallalla for sending them in.

If you'd like to discuss these images please do so in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. See you there!

  9. Details On Bond's Hotel In Cádiz

    By daniel on 2002-04-14

'Gonzalo' has sent in some information that has appeared in the Spanish media about the filming of Die Another Day in Cádiz. In particular, there are some details on the hotel Bond will be staying in.

Bond's hotel overlooks a beach which we're told has been has had several Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) Cuban flags placed along it. Also, various military cars have been seen on the beach.

So what is the name of Bond's hotel? A sign reading El Gran Palacio. Hotel was placed on the building being used as Bond's hotel.

Thanks to Gonzalo for sending that news in. And remember, you read it first at CommanderBond.Net!

  10. More Pictures Of Jinx In Her Bikini

    By David Winter on 2002-04-13

More and more pictures of Jinx on the beach in Cadiz seem to be popping up now, a big thank you to CBN forum member patparazzi for sending these ones in.

Again, a big thankyou to patparazzi for those photos! Discuss this latest set in this post in the Bond 20 forums.
