  1. Confirmed: Brosnan Signed B21 Contract!

    By Tim Roth on 2003-05-24

While CommanderBond.net reported about Pierce Brosnan having signed a contract for Bond 21 some days ago, other sources on the web spoke of a misinterpretation. However, an article featured in Business Week Magazine on April 14th already, confirms that the contract has been signed.

The article which is mainly an inside report about Pierce Brosnan and his production company "Irish dreamtime" states in one sentence, "The 49-year-old classically trained actor (who has been working in the business since he was 18), has just signed up for a fifth Bond film."

  2. Moore Wants To Save Black Bears From Crown Cullings

    By daniel on 2003-05-15

London – Having been taken ill hasn’t stopped actor Roger Moore, star of dozens of films but best known for his role as British super-spy 007 in the James Bond movie series, from being active as an advocate for animals: Moore has signed a petition from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) calling on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Ministry of Defence to adopt a fur-free policy and switch to faux fur for the Household Guards’ bearskin hats.

It takes the entire hide of one to two bears to make just one Guard’s headpiece. The skins come from bears shot in Canada—many are shot several times before they die, while some escape the hunters only to bleed to death. When mother bears are killed, orphaned cubs who cannot survive on their own are left behind.

‘Ordering the killing of hundreds of magnificent black bears—whose only desire is to remain free and with their families—sounds like a dastardly plot that the British government would immediately send James Bond to foil,’ says PETA UK’s Dawn Carr. ‘With faux-fur substitutes available, the Ministry of Defence has no excuse for continuing in the role of villain.’

Mr. Moore joins Morrissey, Julian Clary, the Dowager Duchess of Bedford, Twiggy, Jilly Cooper, Amanda Holden, Brian Sewell, Haley Mills, Ian Cawsey MP, Jerome Flynn and others in calling for a ban on bear fur in Guards’ headwear.

  3. Brosnan Signs Bond 21 Contract

    By Tim Roth on 2003-05-13

Yahoo! Germany reports that Pierce Brosnan has just signed the contract for Bond 21, with an option for Bond 22. Pierce is quoted as having said "I think playing James Bond six times and turn down the role then, this would be pretty cool".

In another sentence it is mentioned that the next James Bond is currently being worked on. This would be contrary to Michael G. Wilson’s statement about Bond 21 in the recent edition of British magazine "Film Review", where he is quoted to have said "As for Bond 21, it’s not even a glimmer in it’s mother’s eye. It’s a matter of logistics, it takes time to make these films and they get bigger and bigger, and they take more and more planning… I reckon it would be at least three years from the last film".

  4. DAD Vanquish Auctioned At £210,500

    By David Winter on 2003-05-11

The car driven by Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day was auctioned yesterday and received a winning bid of £210,500 by motor-museum owner, Peter Nelson, who boasts that he is lucky enough to have many more Bond cars in a collection of his.

This collection has a 25 cars from the Bond series, and can be seen at his “Cars Of Stars” museum in Keswick, Cumbria in the UK.

“I sat in it and it fit me perfectly. I can’t wait to take it for a drive and my children are desperate for me to pick them up from school in it.

“But I’m a bit shaken and stirred because it’s not a cheap car.”

  5. Brosnan Enters the Ring as Matador

By The CBn Team on 2003-05-10

Earlier in the week, various news outlets reported that Pierce Brosnan has connected himself and his production company, Irish Dream Time, to the film Matador.

In the film Brosnan would play a hitman with issues, who can not complete his assignment in Mexico City. Instead, he hooks up with a business man from the US who has issues of his own.

Richard Shepard is scheduled to direct the film, which is looking to start filming around the end of 2003. Given that Brosnan is also attached to the film Laws of Attraction which is scheduled to begin filming in a couple of months, the likelyhood of a January 2004 start date for Bond 21 is diminishing.

  • Proof: Wai Lin Was Set To Be In DAD!

    By Tim Roth on 2003-05-08

Even before "Die Another Day" started filming in January 2002 and key roles were casted, there were rumours that Michelle Yeoh aka Wai Lin from "Tomorrow Never Dies" was to return. Earlier this year storyboards were sold on ebay, showing an elevator fight, in which Bond and Wai Lin were involved. Other Bond fan pages misinterpreted the storyboard as showing Bond and Jinx in Havanna. The German James Bond Club (BKD) made out that on the R2 DVD’s, which have just been released throughout Europe, the proof of Wai Lin being in an early script can be found.

In the R2 exclusive documentary "From Script To Screen", which will not be included in the R1 versions of the DVD, you can see pages from the script, while authors Neil Purvis and Robert Wade are explaining how to write a Bond movie. Those pages contain the names of Bond and Wai Lin, and the screenshots can be found on the website of the BKD.

The original version of Bond’s Hong Kong visit:

After his escape from the Royal Navy ship, Bond arrives in Hong Kong and checks in into Rubyeon Hotel. "Peaceful" arrives and Bond destroys the mirror. Surprise, surprise – Wai Lin, who has been promoted since their last meeting, is hiding behind it. Wai Lin and Bond leave the room and go to the elevator, where some North Korean henchmen are waiting for them. A fight takes place and the agents win. A man and a woman are waiting for the elevator and when it opens, it is completely destroyed. Bond leaves it by adjusting his tie.
They arrive at the secret HQ of the Chinese Intelligence Service. A message is waiting for Wai Lin. On a paper Bond’s head is printed. They are looking for him! Wai Lin now explains that she has been promoted and that she is the leader of the Hong Kong Station. They get Bond a passport for Cuba, because Zao is supposed to be there. Wai Lin gives Bond 12 hours to leave, until they will officially receive the MI6 message.

  • Rumour: Tamahori Directing Bond 21

    By Evan Willnow on 2003-05-04

CBn has heard from a source that Lee Tamahori will return to the
directors chair for Bond 21. The fact that Tamahori has yet to start production on any other project is one indication that there may be some truth to this rumour. If so, Tamahori will be the first director since John Glen
to direct back to back Bonds.

    Stay tuned…

  • Live at 007 Bond Street in the UK?

    By Brett McAleer on 2003-05-01

MGM have come up with a unique advertising gimmick by sending a letter to people that live at 007 Bond Street in the UK congratulating them on being the recipient of a copy of the Die Another Day DVD due for release in the UK on May 2nd.

The letter, which has been displayed on the DVDAnswers website states: “MGM Home Entertainment will be sending everyone in the UK who lives at 007 Bond Street a free copy of Die Another Day…”, which seems to indicate that it does not just include the famous London address, but every Bond Street in the whole of the UK!

    So, where do you live?

  • Die Another Day Boosts Sales of Aston Martin

By The CBn Team on 2003-04-22

Aston Martin has always been proudly linked with it’s association with the James Bond franchise. And the £160,000 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, which Bond drove in his last adventure, Die Another Day, has sold nearly a 1,000 units since going into production in 2001. Apparently, demand is still so strong there is a waiting list of around a year.

Such is the desirability of the Aston Martin brand off the back of Die Another Day that more than 1,000 people in the UK have put their names on a waiting list for the new AMV8 Vantage – rumoured to be driven by Bond in Bond 21 – even though it won’t be produced until 2005.

The AMV8 Vantage is expected to go on sale for about £75,000, and will be the cheapest brand-new Aston Martin money can buy.

By 2005, the manufacturer expects to be producing around about 5,000 cars a year and hopes that the AMV8 Vantage will account for at least half that. “It’s a very important car for us. It’ll allow just a few more people to buy an Aston,” Tim Watson, public affairs director, said.

  • First DAD DVD Reviews Hit The Net

    By daniel on 2003-04-15

The first reviews for the Die Another Day DVD have begun to hit the Internet.

DVD Answers have scored the exclusive first review of the two disc set, reviewing the Region 2 release of the film.

The review looks at the extras on the DVD in extra, revealing previously unknown information about them, including some of the content. For instance, it is revealed that the audio commentry with Pierce Brosnan and Rosamund Pike was filmed seperately, so the audio tracks are joined and the two actors aren’t actually talking to each other at any time. Pike also doesn’t join in the commentry until her character appears in the film.

Overall, they’ve given the two disc set eight out of ten, with the extras receiving nine out of ten.

Amazon UK have also posted a review of the DVD’s extras, albeit a small one.

Die Another Day will hit DVD in the UK on May 2 and can be pre-ordered from Amazon UK. The Region 1 edition will be released June 3 and can be pre-ordered from Amazon US.
