  2. Lois Maxwell Celebrates 75th Birthday In Perth

    By daniel on 2002-03-15

Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny throughout the James Bond reigns of Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moore, has celebrated her 75th birthday in Perth, the capital of West Australia. Maxwell was in Australia to visit her son Christian Marriot.

In fine Bond tradition, Ms Maxwell arrived for the birthday in a 1962 Aston Martin and was led to a replica Moneypenny office desk where she admitted party guests only after they kissed her hand and threw a hat on to a hatstand.

Maxwell was also treated to a special phone call from long time friend, and former Bond actor, Roger Moore. "Roger, you are a darling," Ms Maxwell said. "When they told me that a secret voice was going to speak to me I said that the only one it could be was Roger."

And in typical style Moore told Maxwell "I didn't realise you were older than I am. Otherwise I would have called you Madam." Moore doesn't turn 75 till October.

Thanks to 'Nexus' for the tip-off about the news!

  3. 2002 James Bond Celebrity Golf Classic and Gala Dinner

    By daniel on 2002-03-14

We've just received these details about the 2002 James Bond Celebrity Golf Classic which will be held at Stoke Park Club, where scenes of Goldfinger and Tomorrow Never Dies were filmed.

2002 JAMES BOND CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC AND GALA DINNER

The Ian Fleming Foundation is delighted to announce the James Bond Celebrity Golf Classic and Gala Dinner will take place on Friday 28th June at the prestigious Stoke Park Club.

2002 is an extra special year for this official and now famous annual James Bond Golfing event, as it marks the 40th Anniversary of the first James Bond film and is also the year of the 20th Bond film – 'Die Another Day'. The 2002 James Bond Celebrity Golf Classic is supporting Variety Club of Great Britain which also commemorates a 40th Anniversary this year and will raise funds for 2 Sunshine Coaches in the tournament's name. The invaluable Sunshine Coach programme was launched in 1962 and has purchased over 4,000 coaches for sick, disadvantaged or disabled children.

Whether you are a golfer, would like to enjoy a day out at this amazing event or are simply a Bond enthusiast who would enjoy the Gala Dinner and entertainment – this will be a superb occasion. Stoke Park has a unique history with the Bond movies and the famous golf sequence in Goldfinger was filmed at the Club.

This is the only official Golf event word-wide which is officially recognised by Eon Productions, the makers of the Bond films and it is part of the 40th Anniversary James Bond Celebrations and will honour the launch of the 20th Bond film. Stoke Park is just 10 minutes from Pinewood Studios, where Barbara Brocolli, Michael Wilson and the production team are currently filming Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan, Judy Dench, Halle Berry and John Cleese – to name but a few.

This exciting day will commence at 10.45am with brunch, followed by a shotgun start at 1.00pm. From 6.30pm guests are invited to a champagne reception, followed by a superb black tie gala dinner, dancing, casino, charity auction and after dinner entertainment.

Each golf team will consist of 4 players with the opportunity of each team playing with a celebrity golfer. Stars from Bond movies and a host of other celebrity names will also be attending the Gala Dinner. Golfing partners or non-golfers can also participate in the day's activities with special Golf or Tennis schools or beauty treatments and tea.

There are a number of sponsorship and promotional opportunities available and we have tailored packages for the day's golfing event and evening activities. These vary from overall sponsorship of the whole event and sponsorship of a golf hole, to advertisements in the official event brochure and donations of auction prizes.

We can also offer excellent hotel accommodation at the Golf Club on a first come first served basis for the 28th June. Stoke Park is located just 40 minutes from Central London and 15 minutes from Heathrow.

    For further information:

Please contact Amanda Schwarz, Sally Payne or Lisa Denning on (UK-London) 020 8959 1199 or [email protected] , at your earliest convenience as places are limited – we only have 500 places at the Gala Dinner and 25 Golf Teams – to confirm your interest. We can then send you a full information pack, plus a comprehensive breakdown of sponsorship opportunities, individual packages and costs, if required.

We do hope you will be able to join us for this exciting and worthwhile event and look forward to hearing from you.

  4. The Real James Bond

    By David Winter on 2002-03-10

Bond fans in the United Kingdom, will be able to watch "The Real James Bond", a documentary about James Bond's creator Ian Fleming. The program will be broadcast: Tuesday at 9pm (GMT), on "Channel 4". The program is set to examine the public image of the writer, and is to explore the troubled phyche which lurked beneath the veneer of the upper-class gentleman, whom died in 1964, aged 56.

Ian Fleming will always be associated with his most famous creation – 007, however it seems that unlike Bond, Fleming, a former naval-intelligence officer, was deeply shy, and had complex, even emotionally destructive relationships with women.

Dont miss this chance to gain an insight into the man who created the 007 franchise. Interviews with many of the 007 – stars, and members of the Fleming familly, can be expected, and maybe a mention on the authors who have carried on his work, such as the present 007 author – Raymond Benson. A must see for any Bond-fan.

  5. Judi Dench On Parkinson

    By daniel on 2002-03-05

Actress Dame Judi Dench will appear on Parkinson on the BBC on Saturday 9 March at 22:20. Dame Judi will be on the show to promote her latest film 'Iris', which I recently saw. It's a great film, but very sad. Either way support Dench and go and see it!

One can only speculate as to whether or not Bond 20 will be mentioned in the interview. However, CBn Staff Member recalls that when actor Robbie Coltrane was interviewed by Parkinson the interview was "nearly all about GoldenEye".

It sounds promising! Thanks to Glenn for letting us know.

  6. Samantha Bond On British Television

    By David Winter on 2002-03-04

Samantha Bond, better known to Bond fans as the current; Miss Moneypenny, will be starring in a crime drama tonight on British television.

She will be playing the part of a "National Crime Squad" agent in an episode of "NCS: ManHunt". The episode will be shown at 9:00pm (GMT) tonight on BBC1. The BBC provide the following description of the episode:

"Supt. Bob Beausoleil makes a TV appeal for help with a series of contract killings, but the intense pressure on the squad for fast results in the case leads to tragedy. W/S. Contains graphic violence."

From footage shown on commercials for the show, we can be sure that Samantha will be seeing some heavy action, and as mentioned above; "graphic violence". In commercials she can be seen in many scenes with a side-arm (i.e. pistol), and will be on the hunt for cold-blooded killer.

    UPDATE… (4/3/02)
Samantha gave a great performance in "NCS: Manhunt". One particular scene showed her interrogating a murder witness, she gave a really believable performance in this scene, and after she found a collection of kinky toys, she tries to really make the witness crack, and confess what she saw.

As for her gun-wielding scenes, well, we did not get to see her shooting anyone, but she did whip out her side-arm every now and again. If she is indeed taking the character of Moneypenny "a little bit further" (as reported on JamesBond.COM) then we can only hope that she performs as well as last night. Her character was quite complex in some scenes and fantastically performed by Samantha Bond.

The next episode will be shown tonight at the same time as the previous episode.

Every Saturday night at 8:00 Eastern standard time in the U.S ABC broadcasts the "Bond Picture Show." ABC shows the movies in the order they were made. ABC has different celebrities or special guests hosting the Bond Picture show. The host guides the audience on every other commercial break through the history and trivia of Agent James Bond 007. 10. James Bond's London For Sale In Melbourne Store

    By daniel on 2002-01-31

While shopping in the city today I popped into one of the few movie related stores that Melbourne (and I'm guessing Australia) actually offers. To my surprise not only has their James Bond stock increased, but they're offering Gary Giblin's "James Bond's London" as well.

"James Bond's London" is retailing for around the $50 mark, which is a very small price different from the books actual retail value. It retails on SpyGuise for US$20, which is AU$40. If you include postage costs to that you can see you're getting a good deal from the store.

    Also available of interest to some are quite a few copies a special edition of the OO7 Magazine. The particular edition in concern is The Art of James Bond – Issue 1 and is described by the official site as;

A 'OO7' Magazine special limited edition publication – The Art of James Bond Issue 1. On the eve of the 40th Anniversary of the James Bond movie series, 'OO7' Magazine presents a 48 page, full colour portfolio of rare James Bond movie posters from around the world. Featuring whole page A4 poster reproductions in full colour suitable for framing.

So where is this terrific store you might ask? Well it's called Minotaur and is located at 121 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. They can be contacted on (03) 9670 5414. You can also view their website at http://www.minotaur.com.au/ however, I have to warn you it's been in development hell for several years now and there's nothing there.
