  1. MTV To Host James Bond Part At Cannes

    By daniel on 2002-05-02

Ananova has reported that MTV will host a special James Bond 40th anniversary party at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Recently CommanderBond.net reported on the possibility of a teaser poster and trailer being revealed at Cannes.

The event will take place on May 18 at Le Palais Bulles on the Cote d'Azur, France.

According to Ananova On display will be the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar XKR and Range Rover cars from the current 007 film Die Another Day. It seems strange to have Range Rovers in Die Another Day. Rover is owned by BMW, hence the vehicles appeared in Tomorrow Never Dies. We'll see!

Organisers are planning to offer guests vodka martinis – shaken, not stirred – and the chance to gamble in a special Bond-style casino.

The MTV Cannes Movie Special will premiere on MTV UK on Friday May 31 at 7pm.

The Cannes Film Festival begins on May 15.

If anyone can send in details of the MTV special or they are going to Cannes and can send in details please contact me.

    Update:

Rob has written in to let me know I got something wrong. Range Rover is no longer owned by BMW, but it was during the production of Tomorrow Never Dies as it was sold about 18 months ago. BMW sold Land Rover to Ford before selling Rover to private investors, which became MG Rover. So Land Rover, which manufactures the Range Rover model, is NOT a part of the new Rover company called MG Rover.

Hence, Land Drover (which is owned the Premier Automotive Group company, which is owned by Ford, and owns Aston Martin and Jaguar) will feature their vehicle, the Range Rover, in Die Another Day.

    Confused? Hope not!

  3. TNN Promise To Air Bond Series Unedited

    By daniel on 2002-04-18

In brief news, US media network TNN have promised to air the James Bond films they own the rights to, unedited. The decision was revealed by TNN general manager Diane Robina in an interview with the New York Daily News.

Robina said, "James Bond deserves some respect and there's really nothing in these movies that can't be seen."

Someone should have told ABC that before they made a mockery of the films they recently aired.

Thanks to Barbara for the tip-off!

  4. Brosnan to lead Queen's celebrations…

    By David Winter on 2002-04-14

Pierce Brosnan has agreed to host the Queen's Golden Jubilee pop gig.

Brosnan personally rang Buckingham Palace to offer the organisers his services for the concert which is to be televised on June 3rd, in the United Kingdom.

When Pierce comes on stage (within the Palace gardens), he will be responcible for introducing; Sir. Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, and Tom Jones, to the 12,000 fans who will be present. All three of these singers are to perform famous songs from the 007 films.

A Palace inside revealed the following to SkyNews; "Pierce rang up the palace asking about tickets. When we suggested he take part he jumped at the chance."

  6. Exclusive: More Pictures From Bradford Exhibition

    By daniel on 2002-04-03

On Tuesday we featured several images from the James Bond Exhibition currently being held in the United Kingdom. Today, thanks to John we're back with more images.

They're all the images for now, but you can be sure we'll be back with more soon! Thanks to John for sending them all in!

  7. Sean Connery To Lead New York Parade…

    By David Winter on 2002-04-02

On April 6th, former 007-actor; Sean Connery will be leading a parade of bag-pipers through New York City. The event should really "hit-home" with the actors Scottish roots. He hopes to break a world-record, by having 10,000 pipers in attendance at the event.

The parade of Scots-men (and women) will begin on West 42nd Street, and up Sixth Avenue, where it will go on to Central Park. Alan Cumming who played Boris Grishenko, in "GoldenEye" will also be in attendance, along with Roger Moore's favourite "potential Bond"; Ewan McGregor

007-Fans from New York, can be sure to catch a glimpse Sean himself, although, I would suggest arriving early to attain "front row status", to avoid crowds, which could prove to be very large. As Tim007 has announced on the CBn Forums, a start-time has yet to be announced, however New Yorker's will no doubt be informed nearer the event.

  8. Exclusive: Pictures From The James Bond Exhibition

    By daniel on 2002-04-02

Over the next few days we'll have some articles on the James Bond Exhibition which is currently being held in the UK. To start off we have some pictures from the exhibition thanks to John. We have plenty more pictures to come so keep an eye on CommanderBond.net!

There are all the pictures for now, but we'll have more soon!

An interesting thing to note. The plaque for the Aston Martin DB5 says that it was the car used in GoldenEye. However, the registration plate is clearly BMT 214A. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's Bond's registration plate in Goldfinger. In GoldenEye it's BMT 216A!

A big thanks to John for providing the images!

  9. Three Bond Movies On UK TV

    By daniel on 2002-03-31

Three James Bond films (Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale) will be shown on ITV1 starting Easter Sunday.

Goldfinger will be first off the block, showing on ITV1 at 15:00.

On Easter Monday at 13:15 ITV1 will show On Her Majesty's Secret Service. At the same time on Channel 5 the spoof James Bond film Casino Royale will be shown at 14:35.

'Tanger', who sent in the news, tells us that both Goldfinger and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are likely to be edited due to the time slot. When shown in Christmas 2000 the pre-titles of Goldfinger were heavily edited.

Thanks to 'Tanger' for letting us know!

  10. US ABC Cancels Bond Picture Show

    By daniel on 2002-03-26

ABC has cancelled the Saturday Night 'Bond Picture Show' four weeks before it was due to finish. The network claimed poor ratings as the reason for the move accorting to 'Variety'. Each show averaged 6 million viewers, while From Russia With Love topped all the films with 7.1 million.

ABC did get off to a bad start with the films. Not only were they poorly edited and manipulated (for instance the addition of a bra to Plenty O'Toole in Diamonds Are Forever) but they also refused to show On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Later this year the rights to the Bond films will move from ABC to the Viacomm Network.
