  2. Pierce Brosnan in Death Train This Sunday

    By daniel on 2001-12-27

'Trevelyan' reminds us all in the Australian 007 Forums that 'Death Train' starring Pierce Brosnan and Christopher Lee (who played Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun) is on Channel 10 this Sunday night at 8:30.

"Mike Graham is an American racecar driver and former mercenary, who is hired by the British United Nations Crime Organisation. His mission is to stop a train that has been hijacked by terrorists and is carrying an atomic bomb from Germany to Iraq."

It's a good chance to see Brosnan in a non-Bond role for those who haven't already seen the film.

  3. Aston Martin Vanquish Reviewed On Today Show Tomorrow

    By daniel on 2001-12-18

Look out for the Aston Martin Vanquish on Australian TV tomorrow morning. 'NJ' has just put in a call to the producers of the Today Show and has found out that the article on the Aston Martin is likely to be aired around 7:15am.

All we know so far is that the review will make a major mention of the Vanquish appearing in Bond 20. It will be hosted by automotive reporter Jeffrey Watson.

A big thanks to NJ for finding out the info for us.

  5. The World Is Not Enough TV Premiere

    By daniel on 2001-11-07

    Thanks for the tip-off James!

  6. Diamonds Are Forever on TV Next Sunday

    By daniel on 2001-11-06

Bond is back on TV in Australia as [dark] let's us know!

Australian Bond fans will get another dose of 007 next Sunday November 11th, with Network Seven airing Diamonds Are Forever at 10:30pm.

It aired less than a year ago here, but I’m pretty sure Network Seven have the rights to only Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die, GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies. All the others (with the exception of Octopussy and The World Is Not Enough (the latter won’t screen on Australian TV until late next year at the earliest)) have been shown on Network Ten within the last year and a bit. So Seven haven’t got much to show considering we’ve seen all their films within the last year as well.

Anyways, just thought I’d let you know!

    [dark]

Interesting to see Bond move from Saturday night to Sunday night, also to a later time slot. Thanks to [dark] for the tip off!

  7. A Review Of 'The Man With The Golden Pen'

    By daniel on 2001-10-18

You may remember back in early September when CommanderBond.net ran two articles on a stage show highlighting parts of the life of Bond author Ian Fleming. Just over a month later Simon Firth has sent us in a review of the play which he has labeled as "superb" and a "supremely entertaining insight into the life of Ian Fleming".

The Man With the Golden Pen

Superb. The play is already open as the audience make their way to their seats. Ian Fleming, resplendent in the ubiquitous tuxedo, is standing in the middle of the set contemplating a manuscript. The audience is seated, the doors close and Mark Burgess as Ian Fleming is immediately threatened by a strong light from what is apparently the muse of James Bond. And thus the stage is set.

This is a one man show where we are given an insight into the life of Ian Fleming, his fear over his impending marriage, his love of the fast and adventurous life, martinis, hand made cigarettes in cigarette holders, women, all delivered as a one way conversation to James Bond – the muse who forever remains off stage.

The play is divided into two acts – the first is during the writing of Casino Royale in 1952, the second takes place during the filming of Dr. No. The set is simplicity itself, three venetian blinds set the scene for his room in Goldeneye, a single stand upon which he serves himself a succession of martinis and a single swivel black chair. The second act introduces the golden typewriter to the set on which he wrote his later manuscripts and a costume change for Burgess into a tropical suit. Throughout the play, Burgess intersperses his Fleming delivery with quotes from both Casino Royale and Dr No, as though he were in the process of writing them there and then. These moments are captivated by a sudden change of lighting which effectively separates them from the main narrative.

Burgess’s delivery is crisp, direct, eloquent. His writing is littered with witty, dry and sardonic slants at the fearful prospect of a late marriage, his deteriorating health, his reminiscences of girl friends – past and present. His thoughts on his suggestions as to who should play Bond in Dr No and who is eventually chosen are particularly amusing. His fast and full life in early years contrasts to his later life as he displays a more “What will be, will be” attitude as things are shown to be less in his control, but always, his style, his arrogance and his snobbery are never to be slighted.

This play will appeal to fans of the Fleming/Bond genre as easily as it will to people who would like to be subjected to a supremely entertaining insight into the life of Ian Fleming. Burgess’s research is evident; his ability to deliver a commanding and entertaining one man production is without doubt, unquestioned.

This play is touring a variety of towns in England until 24th November on its initial run. However, Hanover Productions are looking to take it on another run which will include more UK towns through to the new year. Hanover can be reached on 01273 606475 or www.hanoverproductions.co.uk The Man With the Golden Pen is sponsored by Parker Pens.

At the time that this article was published the Hanover Productions website was not working properly, so please do contact them through the provided phone number. In a previous article we did provide the e-mail address [email protected] which we presume is still working. And if you find out any details we haven't already published, please send them through to us. CommanderBond.Net is fully behind promoting 'The Man With The Golden Gun' as we try and get behind many James Bond events!

A big thank you to Simon for sending in the article.

  8. From Russia With Love On TV This Saturday

    By daniel on 2001-10-10

    Bond is back on Australia's Channel 10 this Saturday as [dark] informs us;

I’ve been checking out your site lately, and I just thought I’d let you know that either From Russia With Love or The Spy Who Loved Me is on Australian television this Saturday at 8:40pm. The TV Guide says From Russia With Love, whereas Network Seven’s site shows The Spy Who Loved Me. And Network Ten’s (the station showing the film) is down for renovations.

We had For Your Eyes Only on TV two weeks ago, which was the first movie in Ten’s 00 Heaven this time last year. The Spy Who Loved Me was the second, so in all likelihood, we could see 00 Heaven running again.

    Here’s to hoping!

It seems certain now that it will be From Russia With Love and not The Spy Who Loved Me. Thanks to [dark] for the tip off!

  9. For Your Eyes Only On TV

    By daniel on 2001-09-23

Forum user 'Freemo' alerts us to Australian television again this week with this message in the Australian 007 Forums

I had a feeling that one would lead to more, and it has, ‘For Your Eyes Only’ works it way to the small screen this Saturday, on a different time, now at 8:35 pm, on a different station, back to Channel 10, adding more confusion to those wondering just who has the rights here in Oz.

And he also alerts us to the Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin and Elle McPherson film "The Edge" which was directed by Lee Tamahori, who is directing Bond 20!

    ‘The Edge’ (7)
    Sunday 23rd, 8:30 pm
    Directed by Lee Tamahori
