    By Devin Zydel on 2008-01-27

While the wait for Charlie Higson’s fifth, final, and currently untitled Young James Bond adventure, which is due out on 4 September, may seem like a long time, the Young Bond Dossier has some good news for fans.

The website reports that the UK paperback of Higson’s fourth Young Bond novel, Hurricane Gold, will include an exclusive sneak peak at the fifth adventure. The Hurricane Gold hits UK bookshelves on 28 May.

The Young Bond Dossier notes that this upcoming extract is a first for a UK Young Bond paperback. Only the US paperback of SilverFin previously included an extract for Blood Fever.

Higson previously said regarding the fifth novel’s ending: ‘We see where he’s going to go in his future and what’s going to happen to him. He learns a quite a few nasty lessons in the book, about life, and people, and who you can trust and not trust.’

‘It’s not going to be a particularly happy ending, I don’t think. It’ll be interesting to see how kids react to that.’

  3. Charlie Higson Continues Work On 'Young Bond 5'

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-01-15

While things have been relatively quiet in the world of Young Bond lately (although it’s to be expected when compared to release of both Double or Die and Hurricane Gold last year), author Charlie Higson is still working along on the fifth adventure, due out this September.

The Young Bond Dossier reports that Higson made a recent appearance at a Puffin event showcasing their books lined up for 2008. The author was ‘forcibly dragged to the presentation’ since he is still working on the currently untitled Young Bond 5.

Due for release on 4 September 2008, Young Bond 5 will reportedly feature the Royal Family, Windsor Castle as well as James Bond’s expulsion from Eton after an incident with a maid. It currently has a working title of The Shadow War.

Higson previously said regarding the novel’s ending: ‘We see where he’s going to go in his future and what’s going to happen to him. He learns a quite a few nasty lessons in the book, about life, and people, and who you can trust and not trust.’

‘It’s not going to be a particularly happy ending, I don’t think. It’ll be interesting to see how kids react to that.’

'Hurricane Gold ('Reden ist Silber, Schweigen ist todlich')'

Hurricane Gold (Reden ist Silber, Schweigen ist tödlich)

Title and cover of the German version of Charlie Higson’s fourth Young Bond novel Hurricane Gold have been revealed today by Arena Verlag. The title will once again not be a translation of the original one (which would equally be Hurricane Gold) but instead Reden ist Silber, Schweigen ist tödlich (Talk is silver, silence is deadly), a modification of the German proverb “Reden ist Silber, schweigen ist Gold” (Talk is silver, silence is golden), something that was also done by Ian Fleming for titles of his adult James Bond novels.

The release date will be February 2008 (no specific date is given). It will be the first time that a Young Bond novel will have a hardcover release in Germany. As to the cover, the book will get the full “gold” treatment like the UK edition, in honour of Ian Fleming’s 100th birthday. It will have 352 pages and the translation will once again be done by Petra Koob-Pawis. The retail price will be 14.95 Euros in Germany, 15.40 Euros in Austria and 27.90 Swiss Francs in Switzerland. ISBN: 978-3-401-06073-6

Another February release is the audiobook of Goldenboy, the German version of the third Young Bond novel Double or Die, once again read by popular German actor Rufus Beck, who also read the the previous German Young Bond audiobooks. ISBN: 978-3-401-25973-4. 19.90 Euros in Germany, 20.60 Euros in Austria, 35.90 Swiss Francs in Switzerland. An Amazon pre-order link is not yet available.

  9. "It's not going to be a particularly happy ending."

    By Matt Weston on 2007-11-21

The Young Bond Dossier links to a new video interview over at Spinebreakers, in which Charlie Higson talks about the fate of Young Bond.

    Charlie Higson

When asked what was in store for the final Young Bond book, Higson jovially proclaimed, “Ahh, he dies at the end of it,” before expressing James’ fate as a grown-up spy as one of the hurdles he had to overcome when writing the series.

“Kids come up to me and say, all the books are exciting but I know he’s going to live because he grows up to be James Bond,” the Fast Show star said.

“So you have to kill off some of his friends.”

After pointing out his books find James attending Eton for longer than stipulated in Ian Fleming’s You Only Live Twice, Higson said Young Bond 5 will address that inconsistency.

“The fifth book does end with him leaving Eton. We find out why he had to leave Eton. We also find out why the facts have changed slightly,” Higson said, in reference to James Bond’s expulsion involving an incident with a maid (the seeds of which have been planted in Hurricane Gold).

“So it is very much the end of that part of his life. We see where he’s going to go in his future and what’s going to happen to him.”

“He learns a quite a few nasty lessons in the book, about life, and people, and who you can trust and not trust.”

“It’s not going to be a particularly happy ending, I don’t think. It’ll be interesting to see how kids react to that.”

Young Bond 5 (which has the working title, The Shadow War) is due for release on 4 September 2008.
