  1. Official EoN Site Updated Today

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-08-04

The official Everything Or Nothing site updated today, and this time round, Yarborough speaks to Matt Head, a designer who creates the “Hollywood Style” special effects for the game.

    Effects such as:

    • Explosions that chase Bond across rooftops
    • Roaring clouds of smoke and fire
    • Lightning and electricity
    • Bubbles swirling through water

According to the report, the entire effects team is constantly aiming incredibly high, and pushing the limits of what the hardware can do. The number of particle effects they can render on screen at the same time has grown many, many times over the past few years, even though the consoles themselves have remained unchanged since Agent under Fire.

The game will be exploding onto Gamecube, GBA, PS2 and XBox on November 14th general release.

  2. All Bond Titles To Get DVD Re-Release This Year

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-07-28

MGM Home Entertainment is releasing all 20 of the James Bond films together in three special-edition gift sets for Region One on November 18th again, just in time for Christmas for all of you American Bond fans with a non-existant wish list.

Volume 1, which includes seven titles, was released in October and will be repromoted and released together with Volumes 2 and 3 in November.

The gift sets are priced at $124.96 each (preorder Oct. 21), and each title gets the full features treatment, including commentaries, documentaries and various featurettes, music videos, theatrical trailers, storyboards and other material.

MGM said all Bond titles, except “Die Another Day,” are scheduled to go into moratorium on January 19th 2004 for an indefinite period.

Originally, MGM had planned to come out with only Volume 2 this year, but the response to Volume 1 prompted the creation of a major Bond package for this holiday season, according to the company.

“Volume 1 was timed around the release of ‘Die Another Day, and it had huge awareness and was a tremendous success,” said Amy Zwagerman, director of library marketing at MGM Home Entertainment, so MGM decided to go with all three volumes “and capitalize on the holiday shopping season.”

The three sets will be supported by a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign that includes national TV advertising across prime-time programming and major sporting events as well as a national print campaign in general-interest and lifestyle publications and radio promotion in the top 20 markets, MGM said.

MGM will be working closely with Electronic Arts in the fourth quarter, when EA introduces the Bond-themed “Everything or Nothing” video game, so that the two companies can effectively coordinate their marketing campaigns to generate maximum buzz, Zwagerman said. Also in the works is a Bond movie marathon on cable timed around the retail window of the gift sets.

    Volume One:

    • Dr. No
    • GoldenEye
    • Goldfinger
    • License to Kill
    • The Man With the Golden Gun
    • The Spy Who Loved Me
    • Tomorrow Never Dies

    Volume Two:

    • From Russia With Love
    • You Only Live Twice
    • Diamonds Are Forever
    • Moonraker
    • For Your Eyes Only
    • The Living Daylights
    • The World Is Not Enough

    Volume Three:

    • Octopussy
    • On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    • Die Another Day
    • Live and Let Die
    • A View to a Kill

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-07-25

Throughout its first 50 years, Playboy has featured a remarkable number of important literary contributions, and this historical legacy will be represented in the forthcoming sale by some of the most significant examples from the archives in each area, from fiction, non-fiction, the Playboy Interview, Dear Playboy, and other related correspondence.

The sale, due to be at Christie’s New York, on December 17 includes numerous original, corrected typescripts by such important authors as Ian Fleming, James Baldwin, Nelson Algren, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and Alex Haley.
Ian Fleming’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was first published in Playboy in May and June of 1963.

Included in the sale are the advance proofs of parts I through III of the first English edition, which are divided and marked with corrections and insertions by the author (estimate: $18,000-24,000).

  5. Pink As Possible Bond Girl?

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-07-24

According to self professed “gossip guru” Sky News’ Neil Sean, singer Pink is supposedly “being lined up for a role” in Bond 21.

In a recent poll in the US, singer Pink was voted one of the most influential people for young teens to emulate, and after she scored a worldwide hit with the theme tune to the latest Charlie Angels flick Full Throttle “Feel Good Time”, Sean writes that he can “reveal she is being lined up for a role in the next James Bond film.”

Supposedly she has no desire to play “a fluffy girl”.

She apparently wants to make Bond fall for her in an adventurous role – she has no intention of being soppy.

I must stipulate that any information regarding the forthcoming Bond film is merely rumour, and has to be treated as such until confirmed by either Eon or MGM.

  6. Fleming's OHMSS Manuscript Up For Auction

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-07-23

Manuscripts by Ian Fleming and Beat poet Jack Kerouac, along with a vintage 1960s Bunny costume and photos of original Playboy cover girl Marilyn Monroe from 1960 highlight the “Playboy at 50” collection to be auctioned at Christie’s.

Advance proofs of sections from “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, published in Playboy in 1963 along with notations by Fleming, are estimated to fetch £11,000 ($18,000) to £15,000 ($24,000) when they go under the hammer on December 17th this year, strengthening the connection between Bond and Playboy, a relationship that has lasted over 40 years.

Photography, memorabilia, art from contributors such as LeRoy Neiman, Alberto Vargas and Gahan Wilson and a custom Mercedes limousine that belonged to publisher and founder Hugh Hefner will also be included in the sale, held in conjunction with Playboy magazine’s 50th anniversary.

“It will prove there were millions of men who did read it for the articles,” joked Hefner about the magazine infamous for bringing eroticism to a mainstream audience.

This isn’t the only piece of 007 literary memorabilia that’s gone under the hammer this year, most notably Richard Chopping, artist of many great Bond jackets sold his printers proofs as well as a signed first edition of Thunderball this month after revealing his strained relationship with Bond’s creator.

Not much is known about the manuscripts in the Christie’s auction as yet, but CBn will bring you more news and information about them as it surfaces.

  7. Trivia: Playboy, Benson And Fahey

    By David Winter on 2003-07-22

Some great trivia here that Raymond Benson points out to CBn visitors:

On the upcoming U.S. Penguin edition of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” cover by Richie Fahey, the model is Victoria Zdrok, the same Playboy Playmate who appeared as “herself” in my short story “Midsummer Night’s Doom.”

And a little lesser trivia, on the cover of “You Only Live Twice” is Lynn Thomas, the Playboy Playmate from the issue May 1997 that contained Part 2 of my serialization of “Zero Minus Ten”!

    The Playboy/Bond connection continues!

  8. SCOOP: The Last Two Fleming Covers Revealed

    By johncox on 2003-07-22

Once again artist Rich Fahey has posted on his website preview peeks of his next (and last?) Bond covers, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN and OCTOPUSSY & THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.

The release date for these books has not yet been announced.

  9. Hugh Jackman: Licence To Kill

By The CBn Team on 2003-07-21

Hugh Jackman has been voted by the members of CommanderBond.Net as their favourite to be the next James Bond. The Australian actor of British decent won with more than twice as many votes as his nearest competition Clive Owen (“Gosford Park”). Curious enough, the option ‘None of the Above’ received more votes than Owen, who hence came in third place.

After recent comments from Pierce Brosnan which indicate that ‘Bond 21’ may turn out to be his last Bond film, fans have been throwing names around furiously who would be up for the task. 35 percent thought Jackman would make the perfect replacement after Brosnan steps down.

20% didn’t see any potential in the current favorites and voted the ‘None of the Above’ option. Brit Clive Owen took 15% of the votes for the third position. Coming in fourth place, Hollywood bad boy Colin Farrell (“Phonebooth”) with 9% of the votes and Welshman Christian Bale (“American Psycho”) received 7% off the votes coming in fifth. Jude Law (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”), who received the most votes after a similar survey from ‘Radio Times’, only took 2% of the votes whereas the winner of Amazon’s Next Bond poll, Ralph Fiennes (“The English Patient”), was absent from CBn’s list.

Hugh Jackman, most famous perhaps for his role in X-Men as Wolverine, has confirmed recently he would be more than happy to play James Bond once Pierce Brosnan retires from the series. When asked about rumours he’d be the next Bond Jackman said, “What guy wouldn’t want to be James Bond”. It looks like the fans have picked an actor who is more than willing to don the tux.

  10. Halle Berry Receives Jinx Script

    By Tim Roth on 2003-07-21

When ‘Die Another Day’ was released in November 2002, Halle Berry spoke of a possible ‘Jinx’ spin off and the mass media hyped this news so that it looked like everything was a PR gag.

Today ComingSoon.Net reports that Halle Berry has just received the script for the Jinx movie. On the San Diego Comic-Con "Berry added that she just last evening received the first script to a film based on her James Bond character Jinx. She said she is excited about the potential of the project."

According to DarkHorizons Berry stated the following: "I’m hoping, we just got the script last night, the first script and I hear its really really good. I’ve been talking to the writers about it and they had a great idea about who she is, and where she comes from. I think it won’t be like Bond, its not supposed to be a female Bond, but it is very edgy and I think we’ll have some elements of humour that Bond has because Jinx has that in the Bond movie but it won’t be like Bond".

After all, this means that a possible Jinx spin off may be underway and that this could delay the shooting and release of Bond 21.
