  1. Jinx Johnson Jettisoned

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-10-26

ComingSoon.Net and Variety have reported that the spin-off Jinx film has been cancelled (apparently) at MGM’s request.

The film, which was supposedly to de directed by High Fidelty and Dirty Pretty Things helmer Stephen Frears has been nixed, according to ComingSoon “much to the apparent dismay of Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson at Eon.”

The film (which has received mixed greetings from Bond fans) was to be released before Bond 21-due in November 2005- and was being written by current Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Rob Wade.

Last week MGM supposedly “told Eon to stop work on the project and press ahead instead with Bond 21.” This will come as a shock to fans as this is the closest Eon have come to making a spin-off since the rumours back in 1998 concerning a Wai Lin film (which didn’t even have a script).

Many thanks to Loomis and kilkenny kid for the tip-off.

  3. Pierce Brosnan Comments On Clive Owen Rumours

    By Tim Roth on 2003-10-22

In the past weeks, rumours occured about "Croupier" actor Clive Owen to play James Bond after Pierce Brosnan retires. According to Channel 4 and ComingSoon.Net, Brosnan himself is quoted to have said that Clive Owen "could do it standing on his head if he wants to, but he’s just gonna have to wait!"

As CBn reported, Clive Owen denied all rumours last week in an interview with Chicago-based newspaper "Sun Times": "It’s just continued speculation…Me becoming the next Bond has become so common that when I read the rumors I even shake my head."

Pierce Brosnan indirectly confirmed other rumours circulation around in the internet: he’s going to play James Bond two or more times, next time in Bond 21, presumably targeting a November 2005 release.

  5. Clive Owen Denies Being 6th 007

By The CBn Team on 2003-10-18

In an interview with the Chicago Sun Times, Clive Owen has officially denied all the rumors surrounding his succession to the throne of Bond once Pierce Brosnan retires after filming the as of now untitled Bond 21.

“It’s just continued speculation…Me becoming the next Bond has become so common that when I read the rumors I even shake my head.”

If that wasn’t enough to make the point, Owen added, “Let me just tell you that there has never been an official approach from the Bond people toward me. And since that is the case, there is no point in me wasting time thinking about it.”

This article can be found at the Chicago Sun Times.

  6. Halle Berry on SNL this Weekend

    By Brett McAleer on 2003-10-17

Just a very quick note to say that Halle Berry will be on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

The musical guest will be Britney Spears, and in all likelihood there will be a Bond related skit. With possibly Britney playing a “Bond girl”?

Be sure to tune in and check it out.

Thanks to “Rich” for bringing this to our attention.

  7. War Hero Who Helped Inspire The Bond Character Dies At 90

    By Brett McAleer on 2003-10-17

Patrick Dalzel-Job died on Sunday leaving behind a legacy of wartime heroism for his country and inspiration for Ian Fleming’s famous literary character, James Bond.

While Bond’s exploits have been well documented, Dalzel-Job’s career was decidedly more clandestine. In 1944-45, along with Fleming, he served in the mysterious Commando 30 Assault Unit, which would seize German equipment and documents ahead of the advancing Allied forces. One of the commanders of the unit later described Dalzel-Job as “one of the most enterprising, plucky and resourceful” people he had encountered during the war. Rear-Admiral Jan Aylen could very well have been describing James Bond.

Patrick Dalzel-Job wrote his autobiography in 1991 called “From Arctic Snow to Dust of Normandy” in which he recalled his many wartime exploits including how he met his wife of over 40 years, Bjorg Bangsund, during sailing trips up the Norwegian coast to Arctic Russia to send topographical reports back to Britain.

Immediately after the war he returned to Norway in search of Bjorg and married her three weeks after finding her. She died in 1996.

They are survived by a son who commanded the leading company of the Scots Guards in the assault on Mount Tumbledown in the Falklands War in 1982.

Patrick Dalzel-Job may have been a model for James Bond, but he once commented that he had “never read a Bond book or seen a Bond movie. They are not my style… And I only ever loved one woman, and I’m not a drinking man.”

  9. Uma Thurman As Bond Girl?

    By Tim Roth on 2003-10-14

According to ContactMusic.com Uta Thurman "is fighting to land the part of the next BOND girl, despite growing up thinking the characters in the 007 movies were anti-women."

The "Kill Bill" actress has never been approached to play a Bond babe, but she’d love to team up with Pierce Brosnan, or whoever his successor is.

    Uma Thruman in "Kill Bill"

She says, "When I was growing up they always said Bond girls were anti-feminist and that was not a good thing to be.

"But I thought that Bond girls were the toughest, sexiest, most fun, and, to me, they were like completely awesome. I thought, ‘Bond girls are bad.’"

Thurman’s comments coincide with the release of Kill Bill, and in that light are more than likely just intended as added publicity and passing comments. With Bond 21 not lensing until January 2005 Thurman is an unlikely contender for a role.

Please discuss the idea of Uma Thurman playing a Bond girl in this thread of CBn’s Bond 21 forums!

  10. Bond To Return Christmas 2005?

    By Tim Roth on 2003-10-10

"Variety", a very reliable film news source, has just reported that the shooting of Bond 21 will commence in January 2005. According to the paper the movie is set for a Christmas time 2005 release. A few days ago the "Internet movie database" (imdb) reported November 25th 2005 as the release date for the 5th Pierce Brosnan outing. However, the imdb is fed by its users, so there is no guarantee for the reliability of the information.

According to "Variety" no director has been announced yet, but a story outline and a treatment of Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, the writers of "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day", were sent to producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

If you want to discuss this news, feel free to do so in this thread of CBn’s Bond 21 forum!
