  3. 'The Spy Who Loved Me' Clapperboard To Be Auctioned

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-05-23

A clapperboard used during the filming of Roger Moore’s third James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, will be going up for auction on Tuesday, 5 June 2007–reports News-Antique.com.

    The full release:

A clapperboard used during the filming of James Bond’s The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Roger Moore and released in 1977, is expected to sell for between £10,000-12,000 in the regular quarterly sale of Music and Film Entertainment Memorabilia at Cameo Auctioneers, Berkshire and online at www.the-saleroom.com on June 5th, 2007.

This is the 30th Anniversary of the movie, the 10th in the Bond series and widely regarded as the best of the seven Roger Moore films. The production was directed by Lewis Gilbert (who also worked on You Only Live Twice and Moonraker) and photographed by Claude Renoir, grandson of the painter. For the first time a 007 stage was built on the back lot of Pinewood Studios in England to house the innards of a huge supertanker which kidnaps three nuclear submarines–at the time the largest motion picture sound stage in the world.

The clapperboard was used extensively in the film’s production, identifying all the main unit sequences shot at Pinewood in 1976 and 1977. It still carries the hand-written date from the final day of main unit filming, 26th January, 1977 and the Rank Film Laboratories cardboard contrast chart attached with gaffa tape to the back. It is sold with a framed picture showing the clapperboard on set & various Screen International articles about the film.

A second clapperboard, used for Special Effects on the film is also included with an estimate to £8,000-10,000. Both are offered for sale by a technician who worked on the film.
Other highlights include a photograph of Elvis Presley the night he died (£200-300), a guitar used by Prince on stage in Las Vegas (£4,000-8,000) and a US one sheet poster from Die Another Day signed by Madonna, Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Judi Dench, and Rosamund Pike (£250-300).

The sale is being held at Cameo Auctioneers room in Berkshire but bidding can also be taken over the internet by pre-registering with www.the-saleroom.com where all the lots can be viewed through the online catalogue.

  6. Daniel Craig Drops Out Of 'Blindness'

The film, based on the novel of the same name by Jose Saramago, tells the tale of an epidemic of blindness in an unnamed European city.

  7. 'Bond 22' Script Not Finished, Says Craig

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-05-22

In an article posted at STL Today, Daniel Craig revealed that the script for his upcoming second James Bond film has not yet been finalized.

Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade previously turned in their draft of the Bond 22 script in mid-April, so this new comment from Craig brings up the question of whether Purvis and Wade are working on a new draft or if someone else has been brought in to do a revision. When Paul Haggis (who did the revision on the Casino Royale script) was previously asked if he was involved with Bond 22, he said ‘with a peculiar smile that he was not involved with the film… yet.’

Casino Royale was very successful,’ Craig said. ‘But I know it’s only as good as the next one’s going to be. We have to make the next one, I think, better than the last one to keep people happy.’

He also mentioned that he is working out once again in preparation for Bond 22. ‘I had some down time. I got to enjoy myself a bit. I’m getting back into shape now, I’m kind of building myself up again.’

  10. Daniel Craig Attends 'The Golden Compass' Press Conference At Cannes

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-05-21

Daniel Craig certainly knows how to keep busy during his break from James Bond. Attending the Cannes Film Festival today, appeared a press conference to discuss one of his upcoming films, The Golden Compass–reports WTOP News.

Craig plays the role of Lord Asriel in the film, which also stars Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards and Casino Royale‘s Eva Green. Directed by Chris Weitz, the film is an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novel, the first book in a trilogy called His Dark Materials.

Speaking with the press, Craig, who is a fan of the series, said: ‘Like with (J.R.R.) Tolkien, there’s something about them that’s beyond the fantasy. It’s not just about witches and elves. It’s a story about true feelings.’
