  1. Daniel Craig Is The 'Best Bond Ever' According To Barbara Broccoli

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-15

Virgin reports that Barbara Broccoli, producer of Casino Royale along with stepbrother Michael G. Wilson, has called Daniel Craig the ‘best Bond ever.’

In an interview with UK movie magazine Hotdog, Broccoli said: ‘He’s such a superb actor. He’s incredibly sexy, he’s very charismatic, he has enormous screen presence and when he takes on a role he completely inhabits the character, and in this case he did everything.’

‘He’s phenomenal. I think audiences will really embrace him … he’s the best Bond ever.’

Director Martin Campbell was previously quoted as calling Craig the best Bond actor as well in March 2006, saying: ‘I am convinced that Craig is the best actor who has ever–and I mean ever–played James Bond.’

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-15

Four behind-the-scenes photographs of the music video for Chris Cornell’s ‘You Know My Name’ have been released online. Pictures: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

As previously reported by CBn, the music video for the upcoming Casino Royale was filmed in Los Angeles on 10-11 October. The video itself is yet to be released.

Cornell has said about joining the ranks of James Bond theme performers: ‘Paul McCartney’s in there, Tom Jones is in there, which I’m–people might not know this, but I’m a huge Tom Jones fan. I think he’s amazing singer. I had never heard his version of ‘Thunderball’ until recently. I’m sure I did when I was a kid, but it was 1965 so I was one. But it’s great, you know, it’s great being part of something like that, historically.’

  3. MGW Multitasking

    By Heiko Baumann on 2006-10-15

As in previous Bond movies, producer Michael G. Wilson has again several tasks to fulfill in Casino Royale. Apart from his duties as a producer, Wilson–being a self-confessed poker addict–personally supervised the filming of the poker scenes in Casino Royale. ‘For the film, the game was changed [from Chemin de Fer, a variation of Baccarat] to Texas Hold ’em, in part because of the recent worldwide poker phenomenon,’ says Wilson, ‘but also because poker is a game of bluff and strategy which offers more dramatic possibilities on screen.’ And director Martin Campbell adds: ‘The film’s marathon card tournament turned out to be even harder to film than some of Casino Royale‘s spectacular action set pieces. This is the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to shoot–ten players round a table, playing Texas Hold ’em, all looking at their cards and each other. Maintaining the tension and the continuity was a nightmare. In fact, as an exercise it would be a very good test for film students to try. Luckily, producer Michael G. Wilson is a genius at poker and very good at numbers. I couldn’t have done it without him.’

And of course, Casino Royale also features the traditional Michael G. Wilson cameo: In addition to serving as producer and poker consultant on Casino Royale, Wilson plays the role of SPOILER: Highlight To Read: a corrupt Montenegrin chief of police whose tenure abruptly comes to an end.

‘I’ve made an appearance in every film since The Spy Who Loved Me in one form or another–sometimes only as a hand or a voice. It’s become a tradition. I’ve been a priest and a scientist, but this is my first time as SPOILER: Highlight To Read: a policeman.’

  4. Casino Royale Secures A PG-13 Rating

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-14

CBn forum member danman007 reports today that Casino Royale has secured a PG-13 rating from the MPAA for its US release.

Rated PG-13 for ‘intense scenes of action violence, a scene of torture, sexual content, and nudity,’ this will be the sixth James Bond film in a row to feature this rating. All four of Pierce Brosnan’s 007 films as well as Timothy Dalton’s Licence To Kill also carried it.

The most recent Bond film, Die Another Day, was rated PG-13 for ‘action violence and sexuality.’

Casino Royale has not yet been classified by the BBFC, although 12A seems to be the rating most UK Bond fans are expecting.

  5. Casino Royale Torture Sequence Photo Online

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-14

    Plot Spoilers

One of the most discussed scenes (apart from the introduction of Daniel Craig as James Bond and a few select others) in Casino Royale will be the torture sequence involving a vulnerable 007, Le Chiffre, and a carpet-beater. When it was previously announced that the standout scene of Ian Fleming’s novel would indeed be featured in the film, fans put forth many ideas and thoughts as to how the scene would be carried out.

A single photo from this sequence, which is every bit as moody as hoped for, has been posted online and can be here on the CBn Forums. It features both Mads Mikkelsen and Daniel Craig.

  6. China May Block Bond at the Border

    By Evan Willnow on 2006-10-13

Variety reports that Casino Royale may be China’s next victim of the country’s “blackouts” of Hollywood films. This year’s Miami Vice and World Trade Center have already suffered from the blackouts. The Variety report states, “China usually has two or three blackout periods a year in which foreign films are not allowed to be released, but this year there will have been more.” The next blackout may block Casino Royale from making its planned 17 November release.

This delay could cost Sony and Danjaq millions if past examples hold true. Past Hollywood films have found that during forced wait of the blackouts cheap pirated DVDs flooded into a market of over a thousand million depriving the studios of box office take.

The blackouts are not James Bond’s only adversary in China. Chinese censors have yet to approve a James Bond film for release, “[Bond’s] penchant for espionage in other jurisdictions or ‘third countries’ has meant he has yet to outdo his adversaries among China’s censors.” Variety explains.

Casino Royale is the 21st James Bond 007 film produced by franchise holders Eon Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting in January and is due for release worldwide starting 16 November 2006. Casino Royale will premiere on 14 November in London. Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond; locations include the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.

The film co-stars Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Jeffrey Wright, Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, Caterina Murino, Simon Abkarian, Tobias Menzies, Ivana Milicevic, Clemens Schick, Ludger Pistor, Claudio Santamaria, and Isaach De Bankole.

Sony Ericsson has announced their limited special silver versions of the K800 and K790 Cyber-shot camera phones which will be featured in Casino Royale. The full press release follows:

Sony Ericsson today announced special silver versions of the K800 and K790 Cyber-shot camera phones as used by James Bond in the eagerly awaited new Bond movie, Casino Royale. These exclusive new camera phones which will be available for a limited period of three months, enable the world’s most famous secret agent to stay on top of the action with exactly the same sense of style and performance as Sony Ericsson phones bring to everyday life. So whether it’s ‘enemy surveillance’ or you just want to take high quality photos and share them instantly with friends and family, the Cyber-shot K800 and K790 phones are a must.

Casino Royale is released globally on 17 November 2006. Daniel Craig stars as “007” James Bond, the smoothest, sexiest, and most lethal agent on Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Based on the first Bond book written by Ian Fleming, the story reveals the making of the world’s greatest secret agent.

‘With both the latest Cyber-shot phone and the M600 Smartphone being used to assist the non-stop action in Casino Royale, plus a major marketing promotion to coincide with the launch of the movie, this is yet another example of collaboration between us and Sony Pictures Entertainment,’ says Jan Wareby, Corporate Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at Sony Ericsson. ‘The special silver edition Cyber-shot camera phones will allow Bond fans to personalize their experience of this fantastic movie whilst also enjoying one of the best performing camera phones on the market.’

The silver K800/K790 phones are a natural fit with the cool, sophisticated style of James Bond – a man who doesn’t do things by half-measures. Both are highly capable mobile phones that also provide cutting edge camera features, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with Autofocus, Xenon Flash for lowlight conditions and BestPic, which allows the user to take nine pictures of a moving object simultaneously and choose to keep the best shot. High speed 3G data transfer then allows the user to share images easily and instantly so you can share them with friends, colleagues – or even MI6 – as you take their picture.

The silver K800 and K790 Cyber-shot phones are equipped with Bond wallpapers, music ringtones and the full video movie trailer. The phones also offer Picture Blogging for uploading photos to a personal online blogsite & PictBridge for printing direct to a printer, without the need for a PC or laptop.
