The BBC reports that Sir Sean Connery was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the first Rome Film Festival which runs until 21 October.

Sir Sean, who also attended the opening concert at Rome Opera House during the event, called the award ‘fantastic.’

Festival President Goffredo Bettini said Sir Sean was recognised for ‘his fame, popularity and his brilliance.’

When the news was first announced in July 2006, Rome’s cinephile mayor, Walter Veltroni, called Connery ‘an actor of extraordinary quality who has worked with the world’s greatest directors and written some of the most unforgettable moments in movie history.’
