  1. Daniel Craig Gives The James Bond Franchise A 'Jolt'

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-13

A new interview with Daniel Craig from the BBC News has appeared online with working on Casino Royale as the obvious topic. Click here to watch the interview with Daniel Craig on YouTube.

Before taking on the role of James Bond, Craig says that he ‘asked every friend, every family member, everybody that I respected, and just said: “What do you think?” I really didn’t want to look back and say: “I wish I had.””

On Casino Royale‘s rigorous stunt sequences, he said: ‘I got the role a year ago and went to [producer] Barbara Broccoli and said: “Look, I need to get fit.” I needed to get fit because I wanted to do the stunts and be involved with it as much as possible.’

‘If this franchise was to continue, in my opinion, it needed to change. It needed to have a jolt. There’s no point in me doing it unless I thought at the end of this movie there was somewhere to go.’

And what direction will Bond 22 be taking? ‘You have to sort of wait and see what is happening in the world. That’s Bond.’

He said of co-star Daniel Craig: ‘I’ve seen him before. I’ve seen him do alot of stuff and I knew he was a fantastic actor. The first time I saw him [for Casino Royale)] was at my audition, and he was wearing a tuxedo, so I was like “whoa!” That is the new Bond, that’s definitely him. The way he’s carrying the film; he’s brutal, he’s sensitive, he’s got the British accent, he’s got the cars and the babes. The perfect choice.’

‘It’s great fun. Especially when you get to torture Bond,’ he said of playing Le Chiffre in the film. ‘I did some lessons [for the poker scenes]. Mainly just to get some handling with the chips to be able to do some tricks.’

Mikkelsen sums up the films perfectly: ‘Bond is a big thing, it’s kind of like having a new president. Everyone has an opinion and in many ways that’s nice. Bond means something to people.’

  3. Caterina Murino Discusses Casino Royale – Tribute TV Interview

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-12

A new interview with Caterina Murino, who plays Bond girl Solange in Casino Royale, has appeared online. Click here to watch the Tribute TV interview with Caterina Murino.

When asked what it was like to be a Bond girl, Murino said: ‘At first, people were telling me that after playing the role in the Bond movie, their careers eventually disappear… I’m very proud to be a Bond girl. I’m proud to be apart of this world, you know, this huge franchise. And after this, I’m just going to turn the page, and my life is going to continue like a normal actress.’

On working with Daniel Craig, Murino said: ‘Before I didn’t know him, and before I went to the Bahamas, I went to see him in Munich by Spielberg and was very impressed… He was so professional with me, he made me relaxed, also because it was my first English movie. At the beginning it was very difficult because my dialogue coach was always with me and we needed to keep repeating the phrases for the English, and he was very patient with me. Absolutely professional.’

The early naysayers were ‘unnecessary’ according to Murino. ‘They were very nasty with [Craig], not because of his job, but because he was blond. How can you be more stupid than to judge an actor for the colour of their hair? But you know, I’m kind of glad alot of people were against him because they’re going to be so surprised.’

‘Maybe people thought in 21 movies, we said everything about James. It’s not true. Everything has not been said.’

  4. Body Worlds 'Plastinarium' Exhibit To Open

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-12

It was revealed earlier on CBn that the Casino Royale crew was working with others from Dr. Gunther von Hagens Body Worlds, an anatomical exhibition of real human bodies. Details have now been released about the public opening of the exhibit…

    The PLASTINARIUM in Guben

Behind the scenes of BODY WORLDS

Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS (KORPERWELTEN) exhibitions have fascinated more than 20 million visitors worldwide. Now, for the first time Gunther von Hagens will give the general public a look into the laboratories of his new center of activities in Guben – the PLASTINARIUM. The PLASTINARIUM will be the only institute worldwide that will allow the public to watch the preparation of permanently preserved, anatomical human and animal specimens. While touring the 2500 sqm of the renovated site of the former Guben cloth factory, visitors will gain comprehensive insights into Plastination processes and techniques. The process includes the anatomical preparation of bodies with the subsequent conservation via Plastination, skeletal assembly, and vascular casting. Teaching specimens and anatomical full body plastinates to train physicians and non-experts are prepared with state-of-the-art technology.

A brief outline of the history of anatomy and the development of Plastination at the beginning of the tour and a display of selected teaching specimens right next to the demonstration labs round off the exciting and instructive tour. Visitors will be able to see bone preparations, vascular casts, body slices, individual organ plastinates as well as whole-body plastinates. Some of the earliest and historical plastinates will be on display as well as some of the newest whole-body plastinates, showing the developments in the technology. Highlight of the showroom is the area of the BODY WORLDS exhibition where the decisive scene of the current James Bond film Casino Royale was shot. Gunther von Hagens: “The PLASTINARIUM is the anatomical cabinet of modern time. It is the culmination of a long European scientific and democratic tradition: In 1543 the surgeon Andreas Vesal established modern anatomy. He published authentic anatomical drawings in his anatomical atlas and staged public dissection, thus popularizing anatomy. In the same year the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus published an essay on cosmology where he proved that the earth orbited around the sun and not the other way round. Since then the planetarium has been revealing insights about the creation and structure of cosmic worlds. The PLASTINARIUM in Guben, in turn, reveals insights about the creation and structure of both the body and BODY WORLDS.”

    Opening times:
For the time being the PLASTINARIUM will be open from November 17 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm (last admission). Groups can book a specific date and time outside regular opening times. Additional opening times will be announced on this website.

  5. Casino Royale: 'Let's Go Back To Reality'

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-12

A brand new article centering on Casino Royale, the 21st official James Bond film, has appeared online at the Globe and Mail.

As many Bond fans already know, Casino Royale can be seen as the Bond film that took the path less traveled. ‘We’re making a change in the whole direction of the series, and we’re making it at a time when the prior film had been the most successful [yet],’ says producer Barbara Broccoli.

‘The world is a very dangerous place,’ Broccoli said this week, during an interview in New York. ‘What’s interesting is, when we went to do GoldenEye, we hadn’t made a film for a few years, and everybody was saying, “The [Berlin] Wall has come down and the world is a safe place–is there any need for James Bond any more?”‘ ‘Well!’ she laughs. ‘Look what’s happened, the world isn’t a safe place, look at how the world has just gotten more and more dangerous. I think we all like the idea of someone like James Bond out there trying to keep peace and world order–and putting his life on the line for the greater good.’

Producer Michael G. Wilson said: ‘The fact that Bond is really grappling with things now says something interesting about the way we as a culture are starting to think about the things we’re involved with, politically. To want to take that more seriously, and really see the human side of it, is an interesting change to the way we’ve chosen to see spy manoeuvres and espionage in the past.’

The character of James Bond would ‘look like an idiot,’ says Wilson, if Casino Royale did not at least take note of the ‘moral ambiguities inherent in keeping the world safe from villainy.’

Daniel Craig spoke on the role in a recent interview as well: ‘I wanted to see a fallible human being. Somebody who makes mistakes, somebody who an audience watches and goes: This might not turn out good, this might turn out bad. I didn’t go out to make him likeable. I wanted to show somebody who changed. I did not want him to be the same person at the beginning of the movie who he was at the end.’

  6. Barbara Broccoli Seperates Casino Royale's Facts From Fiction

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-12

The Chicago Sun-Times features a small interview with producer Barbara Broccoli where she seperates the facts from fiction when it comes to Casino Royale

The first rumour that was questioned was whether or not Pierce Brosnan was dumped from the role and learned of it by reading such reports in the press.

Broccoli said: ‘We were very happy with Die Another Day, and we loved Pierce. He made four great pictures for us. But when we sat down to figure out what to do with Bond 21, we felt like we had reached the point of new return. The world was much too serious, and we were trying to figure out where to go. Once we decided to do Casino Royale, we knew that it was Bond’s first mission and it couldn’t be Pierce again. We discussed the change with Pierce before the news broke. He was very gracious about it. He’s a great guy and a great Bond.’

Clive Owen was a choice that many Bond fans chose as the perfect James Bond #6. The next rumour questioned was whether or not he had obtained the role, but released because of requesting too much money.

According to Broccoli, ‘Michael and I wanted Daniel from the very beginning. He’s an astounding actor. I won’t comment on who we met or didn’t meet. It’s like saying who you [dated] before you got married.’

  7. Eva Green Discusses Casino Royale – Tribute TV Interview

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-12

A new interview with Eva Green, who plays Bond girl Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, has appeared online. Click here to watch the Tribute TV interview with Eva Green.

When asked what kind of pressure was associated with being the new Bond girl, Green said: ‘I was thrilled for one minute on the phone, relieved, and then I was like: “Oh my God, I have to go to the Bahamas tomorrow, I haven’t prepared, I haven’t worked on my English, and the part is really tricky and complex, how am I going to do it…” But the pressure about being a Bond girl… it doesn’t mean anything to me. It was more pressure about doing a good job.’

‘[Vesper Lynd] is the very first Bond girl Ian Fleming ever wrote and she’s the only one that gets to Bond’s heart and shapes him… explains how he became the Bond we all know.

When asked why Daniel Craig works so well in the role of 007, Green said: ‘We needed a new Bond. Someone very modern, very manly and dangerous. He’s more realistic and has a weight the other Bond actors don’t have I think.’

‘He was very professional. He worked at it alot at night and wanted to prove he as going to be a good Bond, and I think he’s quite proud now [laughs]. He won’t say it, but I think he is.’

And what about the naysayers of the film? ‘I don’t want to be nasty, so I’ll be very polite: just wait and see the movie… I’m sure he’ll change their minds.
