  3. Casino Royale DVD Special Features Update

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-01-27

CBn had previously reported with details on the special features listing for the upcoming DVD release of Casino Royale.

Included in this listing were a few documentaries and featurettes and Chris Cornell’s ‘You Know My Name’ music video. This left many Bond fans expecting more; a commentary at the least. Unfortunately, DVD Active reports this will not be the case.

The special features listing for the two-disc DVD of Casino Royale is:

    • Becoming Bond: An intimate look at how Daniel Craig became the newest James Bond
    • James Bond For Real: A look at Casino Royale‘s action and stunts
    • Bond Girls Are Forever: A look at the leading ladies of the film
    • Chris Cornell ‘You Know My Name’ Music Video

Previous reports indicated the DVD would also include a ‘Death In Venice’ featurette as well as five news wraps, but these appear not be to included. Back cover art (with the special features listing) can be viewed here.

Unless there are further announcements regarding the special features, it appears that the Casino Royale DVD will be the first in the James Bond series to not feature an audio commentary.

The initial DVD release of Die Another Day contained over seven hours of special features, including two seperate audio commentaries: one with Michael G. Wilson and Lee Tamahori and the other with Pierce Brosnan and Rosamund Pike. According to the promotional flyer for Casino Royale, the DVD will contain only ’90 minutes of extras.’

  4. Eva Green Discusses Casino Royale, Bond, And Beyond

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-01-26

    Casino Royale‘s Eva Green

Many are already calling Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd one of the strongest leading ladies in the James Bond series. In a new interview with the Guardian, she discusses her work in Casino Royale as well as what the future holds.

Green explains how appearing in a Bond film wasn’t ‘beneath’ her: ‘In France, it’s just not a big deal, whereas here every man wants to be Bond. I just read the script and thought, “This is good.”‘

‘[Daniel Craig] got all the mad tabloids–I got nothing. Actually that’s not quite true. I got very angry when people kept asking me, “What’s it feel like to be a Bond girl?” As if I was soup.’

Green also mentioned she was happy not to appear nude in Casino Royale, saying: ‘I’ve been nude in a film before (The Dreamers) and found it very troubling, so I was quite glad not to be in this film. In [Casino Royale‘s] shower scene–you remember?–they wanted me to strip down to my panties. We had a good fight about that. I used to go to Daniel and ask for his support.’

When asked about her nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star award, Green said: ‘In France we have the Cesars, but I think the Baftas are much more serious. So when the nomination was for me in a Bond film, it’s a bit like a joke … I don’t believe in awards. It’s very good for the ego, I suppose.’

She recently finished filming Northern Lights, the first part of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, along with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman. As for what is next: ‘I have been in two big machines now and something a bit smaller scale would be nice. I want to work in England.’

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-01-25

Although it was previously reported that Casino Royale had been approved with no cuts for its upcoming release in China, Dame Judi Dench reports that she had to change one of her lines in the film in order for it to be approved.

In an interview on CTV, Dame Judi says the line ‘Christ, I miss the Cold War’ didn’t make the cut for Casino Royale‘s release in China.

‘Yes, I wasn’t allowed to say that for China,’ she says. ‘I had to re-dub it. It was: “God, I miss the old times.” Not quite the same thing.’

Casino Royale will premiere on 29 January in China, with Daniel Craig, Eva Green, director Martin Campbell and producer Barbara Broccoli attending. It will be the first James Bond film to be released in theatres in the country.

Negotiations with Roger Michell for Bond 22 fell through

As previously reported on CBn several months ago, negotiations with Roger Michell to direct the next James Bond film had reportedly fallen through due to ‘creative differences.’

According to a recent interview in UK newspaper Metro, Michell briefly discussed the offer to direct Bond 22, saying: ‘I got into a bit of a panic at the prospect. At that time, the film was due to start shooting in January, and I just felt this terrible pressure of scrambling to get a script together with the clock ticking. To go into a film like James Bond when you don’t really know what’s happening would be a recipe for hell.’

With a starting date in January, it is possible Bond 22 could have been released in late 2007.

Michell’s previous films included Changing Lanes, Notting Hill, and Enduring Love which starred Daniel Craig. As of now, the search for a Bond 22 director continues…
