  1. Early 'Bond 22' Rumour: Goran Visnjic As The Villain?

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-03-08

    ***Possible Spoilers***

With the release of Bond 22 less than two years away, now is the primetime for the seemingly endless supply of rumours.

First posted on the CommanderBond.net Forums by ‘smartz,’ a Croatian film magazine has reportedly revealed that Goran Visnjic (who was one of the many candidates suggested for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale) is set to play the villain in Bond 22. The full quote:

Apparently when auditioning for Bond in Casino Royale, Goran Visnjic did such a good job he burned into the minds of the EON psyche. So powerful was his performance that he single handly won the role of next Bond Baddie in the upcoming Bond 22 film with Daniel Craig. It is rumoured that Goran’s agent has confirmed the star is working on something massive and will be taking a well earned break from ER in late 2007. It is rumoured that Goran will be playing Vesper Lynd’s former love interest and that his role will be sizable, meanacing and significant to the plot of the upcoming Bond adventure. Bond 22 is continuation of Casino Royale and will be forming a trilogy story for Daniel Craig’s rough and tough Bond.

At this stage, anything is possible, so keep in mind this is just one of many rumours out there. Time will tell…

  3. Casino Royale DVD & Blu-ray Reviews Online

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-03-05

After months of waiting, (although time flew by in comparison to Die Another Day in early 2003) the release of Casino Royale, Daniel Craig’s debut James Bond film, is now only a matter of days away.

As the region 1 and 2 release dates draw closer, several reviews of the DVD have started to appear online.

The Blu-ray DVD version of Casino Royale earned eight out of a possible 10 points at IGN. Earning high points for video and audio, the 007 film is let down mostly in the extras category. ‘The disc’s got it all: a great transfer, a powerful soundtrack with a great dynamic range, and even a few worthwhile extras to boot. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Martin Campbell’s new take on the long-running 007 franchise served up some killer action and drama…’

The region 3 edition of Casino Royale earned similar praise at DVD Active. ‘Casino Royale is an excellent movie that surpassed my expectations and among all of the reinventions Bond has undergone down the years, this is the most ambitious. On this DVD it is presented very well, in particular the sound quality, and it is a good decision to put the extras on a separate disc so their inclusion doesn’t impact the disc space used for the movie…’

Lastly, Casino Royale earned four out of five stars in the video category in the DVD Talk review. The Bond film scored perfectly in the audio category, but only managed two and a half stars in the special features category.

  6. Why Michell Moved On From Bond

    By Matt Weston on 2007-03-01
'We couldn't find a way of making us all happy with the script.'

‘We couldn’t find a way of making us all happy with the script.’

In an interview with HIT – relayed through Moviehole.net – director Roger Michell has spoken out on why he turned down the opportunity to reunite with Daniel Craig on the 22nd James Bond picture.

Michell, who first worked with Craig on Enduring Love, was linked to the film in July 2006 before leaving in August, citing “creative differences”.

Talking to HIT, Michell said, “We couldn’t find a way of making us all happy with the script. It’s been through various drafts, but I just decided to say no before I got too far into it.”

As far as Michell is aware, the job of helming the sequel to Casino Royale is “absolutely up for grabs at the moment”.

Earlier this year, Michell revealed that the film’s timeline – which may have seen Bond 22 released in 2007 – as being too tight.

From a script by Casino Royale writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, Bond 22 is due to be released on 7 November 2008.

SEGA Reveals Details of The Golden Compass Video Game

Leading Interactive Entertainment Company to Publish Game Based on Highly Anticipated Theatrical Release from New Line Cinema

SEGA of America Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today revealed details regarding the development of the video game adaptation of the highly anticipated theatrical release, The Golden Compass, based on the first book in the award-winning trilogy, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. The game is being developed for multiple platforms and will ship in fall 2007, just prior to the opening of the New Line Cinema motion picture on December 7, 2007. Featuring pivotal environments from the movie, the vivid characters are brought to interactive life, featuring the likenesses of the movie’s impressive cast, which includes Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra Belacqua.

Produced by New Line Cinema and Scholastic Media, The Golden Compass follows the screenplay adaptation of the first book in the acclaimed trilogy, capturing the exciting fantasy adventure set in a parallel world where giant armored bears rule a kingdom, beautiful witches fly through the frozen skies, and human beings’ deepest essence is manifest as talking animals that remain their faithful companion for life–their daemon. Players can assume the role of Lyra, a young girl, along with her daemon Pantalaimon (Pan), as she journeys through the frozen wastes of the North to rescue a friend kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as The Gobblers and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well. Gamers can also take on the character of Iorek Byrnison, a great armoured polar bear who joins the quest.

As Lyra, players will use their daemon and collaborate with in-game characters, collecting special items in order to explore, evade, and deceive their way through confrontations with the Gobblers, the Magisterium, and the horribly dangerous spy fly to find her friend. They can also do battle as Iorek with special attacks and a riding mechanic as he protects Lyra during the journey. Gamers will be able to unlock secrets and mini-games using a mysterious, truth-telling golden compass device called an alethiometer. Players can explore 13 vast locations, including all-new breath-taking environments not seen in the film, on this massive journey of collaboration, exploration and the eternal struggle between good and evil.

This epic tale will be brought to the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Wii video game system, the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, the Nintendo DS, and the PC for holiday 2007.

  9. Daniel Craig Discusses The Importance Of Non-Bond Roles

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-02-26

As CBn reported yesterday, Daniel Craig unfortunately missed out on the award in the Best Supporting Male category after being nominated for his role in Infamous at the Independent Spirit Awards.

In an interview on About.com, the James Bond star discussed the importance of independent films such as Infamous.

‘I mean, for me it’s crucially important,’ said Craig when asked why it was important to do independent films in addition to blockbusters such as Casino Royale. ‘It’s kind of like it’s where you get… Independent movies are what shore up the film industry. It’s where people get their experience as well. It’s what I’ve done; it’s what I’ve been doing for all of my career. It’s where I learned my trade.’

When asked about his nomination, Craig said, ‘It means a tremendous amount to me. I’m very proud of the movie we did and hopefully we can share it about a bit with everybody who was involved in it.’

‘I don’t know,’ he replied when asked about what made an independent film more rewarding than an action film. ‘I like working so I don’t really make that comparison. You do have more freedom in movies like that because there are less constraints. You can tackle difficult subjects and that, I think, is important.’
