    WARNING: Minor plot spoilers

When asked how political Casino Royale is, Craig says: ‘It’s not too political, but it does have its eye on the world outside… we’re not really sure who the bad guy is.’

‘We have a group of people [in Casino Royale] that are led by Le Chiffre; at least we think they’re led by Le Chiffre. They’re trying to destabilize the world with money, they’re using money as the tool… They don’t care who they kill or who they displace. And we don’t know who the top man is yet. Hopefully we’ll find out who that is in the next Bond movie.’

This re-emphasizes a plot revelation CBn exclusively revealed last year, where it was reported that Mads Mikkelsen’s Le Chiffre will be ‘part of a new SPECTRE-like terror organization backed by a fictitious country. This new terror organization may become a recurring threat in future James Bond films as SPECTRE was in the early films…’

Just two more years to wait to find out exactly who the villain[s] of Bond 22 will be… Click here to view the entire video interview with Daniel Craig.

  4. James Bond Will Return in 2008

    By righty007 on 2006-07-21

Today, Eon Productions, MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Bond 22 will be released on 2 May 2008. This announcement shuts down the rumour of a 2007 release which would not only have been a great year to market a 007 film but it would have also celebrated the 45th anniversary of the first James Bond film produced by Eon Productions, Dr. No.

COLUMBIA PICTURES AND MGM ANNOUNCE MAY 2, 2008 RELEASE DATE FOR 22ND JAMES BOND ADVENTURE STARRING DANIEL CRAIG

This announcement is not the only Bond 22 news this month. A few days ago, CBn reported that Roger Michell is in negotiations to direct the follow-up to Casino Royale. There is also a rumour in the Superhero Hype! forums that the working title for Bond 22 is Risico which is the title of a short story in Ian Fleming’s For Your Eyes Only.

  5. 'Bond 22': Roger Michell To Direct?

    By Tim Roth on 2006-07-17
    Roger Michell

    Roger Michell

    Following the recent insider
    report
that Martin Campbell won’t return to direct Daniel Craig’s second
    outing as James Bond, today’s

    Hollywood Reporter
says that "U.K.-based helmer Roger Michell is in
negotiations to direct the follow-up to Casino Royale which has a working title
    of Bond 22".

According to the trade paper, Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, who penned the
last three James Bond movies, are not going to return for Bond 22 either.
Instead, suggests the "Hollywood Reporter", "sources say the film is based on an
original idea from Bond producer Michael Wilson." This would be the first
writing involvement of Wilson since 1989’s License To Kill. Together with
Richard Maibaum, Michael Wilson wrote all of the 1980s Bond movies,
starting with For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

The news of Eon Productions looking for a new writer to adapt Wilson’s ideas, is contrary to former statements by
the producers. At the opening press conference for Casino Royale, Wilson was
quoted to have said that “Purvis and Wade, who wrote the script are also
starting on the next Bond script, so all this is going forward”.

Michell and Craig are no strangers, having teamed on the 2004 drama Enduring
    Love
. Michell’s helming credits also include the Ben Affleck-Samuel L. Jackson
vehicle Changing Lanes and the Julia Roberts – Hugh Grant romantic comedy hit
Notting Hill. He has first been rumoured to direct Bond 22 in May 2006.

  6. 'Bond 22' Unlikely For Campbell

    By righty007 on 2006-07-15

A friend went down to Pinewood to see a friend who works there – not on the Bond film I hasten to add. Said friend bumped into Campbell near the offices and asked if he was going to return for 22. In no uncertain terms, he said he wasn’t. Reason being, he is very tired and this film has been very hard work. While I realise things can change, if the film is successful and powers want people back, money can be a great inducive. But this is very much ‘of the moment’.

This news makes the Daily Mail rumour of Roger Michell directing Bond 22 very possible.

  7. Purvis & Wade Already Working on 'Bond 22'

    By johncox on 2005-10-15

At yesterday’s press conference, where the world was introduced to James Bond #6, Daniel Craig, producer Michael G. Wilson revealed that work is already underway on Bond 22, which will be Craig’s second outing as James Bond after his debut in next year’s Casino Royale.

“Purvis and Wade, who wrote the [Casino Royale] script are also starting on the next Bond script, so all this is going forward,” said Wilson near the end of the press conference.Despite turning to screenwriter Paul Haggis for a dialogue polish, EON Productions appear to be very happy with the screenwriting duo.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade first co-wrote 1999’s The World Is Not Enough with A-list scribe Bruce Feirstein (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies), then went solo on 2002’s Die Another Day. The also penned the aborted Jinx movie spin-off for EON in 2003.

Many Bond fans found this news an encouraging sign that we may see our second Daniel Craig James Bond movie within the franchise’s traditional two-year film cycle. The Bond franchise shifted to a three-year cycle between 1999’s The World Is Not Enough and 2002’s Die Another Day. Casino Royale was originally scheduled for release in 2005, but was delayed by the sale of MGM to Sony Pictures Entertainment.

If Purvis and Wade are able to deliver a first draft of Bond 22 by summer, does this mean we might see the return of yet another James Bond tradition of revealing the title of the next film during the closing credits of the last? “James Bond Will Return in…”

    Let’s hope.

  8. Cleese Touts Davenport

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2003-11-07

Quartermaster John Cleese has cast his vote for who should replace Pierce Brosnan as the world’s favourite super spy – British actor Jack Davenport.

Cleese is good friends with Davenport’s father and is convinced that he, and not current heir apparent Clive Owen, should take on the coveted part. Davenport is a relative unknown, but may be familiar to audiences through TV series This Life and Coupling.

Cleese was reported by UK station Channel 4 to have said, ” I wouldn’t mind seeing Jack Davenport playing Bond. He’s a kid I worked with in the past and the son of a good friend of mine. Good little actor. He co-starred in Pirates Of The Carribean last summer. He’s got my vote.”

  9. Pierce Brosnan Comments On Clive Owen Rumours

    By Tim Roth on 2003-10-22

In the past weeks, rumours occured about "Croupier" actor Clive Owen to play James Bond after Pierce Brosnan retires. According to Channel 4 and ComingSoon.Net, Brosnan himself is quoted to have said that Clive Owen "could do it standing on his head if he wants to, but he’s just gonna have to wait!"

As CBn reported, Clive Owen denied all rumours last week in an interview with Chicago-based newspaper "Sun Times": "It’s just continued speculation…Me becoming the next Bond has become so common that when I read the rumors I even shake my head."

Pierce Brosnan indirectly confirmed other rumours circulation around in the internet: he’s going to play James Bond two or more times, next time in Bond 21, presumably targeting a November 2005 release.

  10. Clive Owen Denies Being 6th 007

By The CBn Team on 2003-10-18

In an interview with the Chicago Sun Times, Clive Owen has officially denied all the rumors surrounding his succession to the throne of Bond once Pierce Brosnan retires after filming the as of now untitled Bond 21.

“It’s just continued speculation…Me becoming the next Bond has become so common that when I read the rumors I even shake my head.”

If that wasn’t enough to make the point, Owen added, “Let me just tell you that there has never been an official approach from the Bond people toward me. And since that is the case, there is no point in me wasting time thinking about it.”
