  1. 'Bond Watches, James Bond Watches' Exhibit Planned For 2010

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-12-19

Dell Deaton at JamesBondWatches.com alerts us that a one-of-a-kind exhibit of timepieces featured in the James Bond films is planned to run at the National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia, Pennsylvania beginning June 2010.

To run through May 2011, the ‘Bond Watches, James Bond Watches’ exhibit will ‘highlight the timepieces worn by James Bond throughout his literary and motion picture career’ dating back to the 1950s and through the present.

The National Watch and Clock Museum was officially opened to the public in 1977 with fewer than 1,000 items. Since that time, the collection has increased to over 12,000 items and the museum has undergone several expansion projects. The latest expansion opened in October 1999 and featured an entirely new and redesigned exhibit space, as well as a new two-story addition. Today, the museum is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive horological collection in North America.

The Museum collection is international in scope and covers a wide variety of clocks, watches, tools, and other time-related items. The main focus of the collection is on nineteenth-century American clocks and watches. However, additional collections include early English Tallcase clocks, Asian timepieces from Japan and China, and timekeeping devices from Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Russia. Chronologically, the exhibits take you on a tour through the entire history of timekeeping technology from early non-mechanical devices to today’s atomic and radio controlled clocks.

  2. Keswick's James Bond Museum Aiming For Spring 2009 Open

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-12-18

CommanderBond.net first reported this past August that a brand new James Bond museum was in the works for the town of Keswick in the UK.

The project is being organized by 007 fan Peter Nelson, who currently oversees the town’s Cars of the Stars exhibition, which features several vehicles from the Bond films. This new museum would be dedicated solely to James Bond.

The Times and Star reports that work has commenced on the project following the OK from the planners involved.

Nelson said: ‘Work has started and I am hoping that the museum will be open by next spring. I speak to lots of people who are James Bond fans and I think people might travel from all over the world to see this collection. I want them to enjoy the wow factor.’

Nelson’s Bond collection includes around 25 vehicles, including an original Lotus Esprit that was featured in 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me. ‘I have lots of things that have never been displayed before,’ he said.

  7. Daniel Craig's Omega Watch To Sell For Charity

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-11-07

An Omega wristwatch belonging to Daniel Craig is going up for auction to benefit charity.

    Daniel Craig

    Daniel Craig

The BBC News reports that the James Bond actor donated the watch while promoting his latest 007 film, Quantum of Solace on the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross show in late October.

After eyeing Craig’s watch during the interview, Ross said: ‘Give me that watch.’

‘What do you want me to do?’ Craig said.

‘Give me that watch you got there,’ Ross said.

‘You want this watch, it’s yours,’ the actor replied.

Ross, who then tried to return the favour to Craig by offering him a Ricky Gervais coaster, suggested he’d auction the watch for charity.

Money raised from the sale, which starts this upcoming Monday, 10 November on eBay, will benefit BBC’s annual fundraiser Children In Need.

A watch with the same specifications is worth around £15,000, but the BBC said the actor’s is ‘invaluable as it has been worn by Daniel and came directly off his wrist’.
