    By righty007 on 2006-10-03

Young Bond 3Earlier this year, author Charlie Higson announced the three rejected titles for Young Bond 3 (Shoot the Moon, The Big Smoke, and Six Days in December). The final title, however, remained a mystery for months.

    Until now.

Today, Ian Fleming Publications have announced that final decision on the title of Book 3 is being left to Young Bond fans. Fans will be able to vote at www.youngbond.com between the three finalists.

The choices are: Double or Die, N.E.M.E.S.I.S., and The Deadlock Cipher.

To help fans decide, there is an exclusive extract from Young Bond 3 on the Young Bond website and a note from Charlie Higson about the three titles he has picked. You can also cast your vote at by texting DOUBLE (Double or Die), ENEMY (N.E.M.E.S.I.S.) or LOCK (The Deadlock Cipher) to 60022.

    The official Press release:

THE THIRD YOUNG BOND BOOK IS COMING!

    Young Bond 3
    Which Title? You Decide…

In an unprecedented nationwide ballot, Britain is to decide the title of the third book in the super-selling Young Bond series, written by Charlie Higson and due to be published by Puffin Books on 4th January 2007.

Voting for the nation’s preferred title starts today, Tuesday 3rd October at 9am, and closes at midnight on the 3rd November. To cast your vote, and become part of James Bond history, visit www.youngbond.com. There are three possible titles, chosen by the author, Charlie Higson:

    • Double or Die
    • N.E.M.E.S.I.S.
    • The Deadlock Cipher

To help you decide, there is an exclusive extract from Young Bond 3 on the Young Bond website and a note from Charlie Higson about the three titles he has picked.

The title will be kept a closely guarded secret until publication and revealed at an as yet undisclosed, central London location on the 3rd January 2007.

The Young Bond series follows the daredevil adventures of James Bond as an Eton school boy in the 1930s. The third instalment in a planned series of five titles, written by Charlie Higson, sees the young James Bond pitted against the dangerous criminal underworld of interwar London, a world of illegal gambling dens, Cambridge spies and East End gangs. Here you’ll read about the experiences which turned the boy into the steely and ruthless secret agent that Bond becomes as an adult.

The first books in the Young Bond series, SilverFin (published in March 2005) and Blood Fever (published in January 2006) enjoyed tremendous success. SilverFin sold over 190,000 copies and spent ten weeks in the top-ten and Blood Fever went straight to number one in the bestsellers chart.

All voters have a chance to win one of a limited number of tickets to the central London event and discover, before anyone else, the title of Young Bond 3.

You can also cast your vote by text:

    • For DOUBLE OR DIE text DOUBLE to 60022
    • For N.E.M.E.S.I.S text ENEMY to 60022
    • For THE DEADLOCK CIPHER text LOCK to 60022

Texts cost your normal rate. For full terms and conditions see www.youngbond.com.

    Press Release

Personally, I’ll be voting for The Deadlock Cipher because it sounds like a title Fleming would be proud of. N.E.M.E.S.I.S. is my second favourite because it’s reminiscent of the evil organizations S.P.E.C.T.R.E. and S.C.U.M. (Fans of James Bond Jr. will remember that one).

  6. 'James Bond and Philosophy' Pushed To October

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-09-27

James Bond and Philosophy, edited by James B. South and Jacob M. Held has been pushed to a 28 October 2006 release date.

Originally slated to be released on the 28th of September, this new 007 book can currently be pre-ordered at a discounted price from both amazon.com and amazon.co.uk.

This new Bond book is made up of 15 essays covering the ‘hidden issues in Bond’s world’ as PGW reports. At 320 pages in length, the book will be published by the Open Court Publishing Company. The description blurb follows:

“Bond. James Bond.” Since Sean Connery first uttered that iconic phrase in Dr. No, more than one quarter of the world’s population has seen a 007 film. Witty and urbane, Bond seduces and kills with equal ease–often, it seems, with equal enthusiasm. This enthusiasm, coupled with his freedom to do what is forbidden to everyone else, evokes fascinating philosophical questions. Here, 15 witty, thought-provoking essays discuss hidden issues in Bond’s world, from his carnal pleasures to his license to kill. Among the lively topics explored are Bond’s relation to existentialism, including his graduation “beyond good and evil”; his objectification of women; the paradox of breaking the law in order to ultimately uphold it like any “stupid policeman”; the personality of 007 in terms of Plato’s moral psychology; and the Hegelian quest for recognition evinced by Bond villains. A reference guide to all the Bond movies rounds out the book’s many pleasures.
