Details were first unveiled on CBn way back April of 2005 for a Young Bond graphic novel series based on the characters from Charlie Higson’s successful novels.

According to Higson at the time: ‘The hardest thing when writing SilverFin was picturing the young Bond in my mind. We have so many different images of Bond as man, what would he have looked like as a boy? I was really pleased that we managed to get an artist as good as Kev Walker to imagine him for me. Now I know what he looks like. Kev’s also done a fantastic job of making the thirties look cool and exciting for a modern audience. Young Bond and his world have really come alive.’ Now, almost a year later, the series is getting up on its feet.

The Young Bond Dossier reports that SilverFin will be the first graphic Young Bond novel, with artwork illustrations provided by Kev Walker. Higson has also revealed that he might be ‘writing the adaption [him]self if I have time.’

The SilverFin Young Bond graphic novel is reportedly due out at the end of 2006.

  9. 'SilverFin' Special Edition US Paperback

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-03-25
    'SilverFin' U.S. Paperback Artwork

    ‘SilverFin’ U.S. Paperback Artwork

As previously reported by CBn and The Young Bond Dossier, a somewhat odd US paperback version of Charlie Higson’s first Young Bond novel, SilverFin was found through the online auction site, eBay. With the true official US paperback shipping from amazon, CBn is now able to compare the two, and confirm that there are indeed two versions of this edition.

Both editions of the US SilverFin paperback share the same cover art (pictured right). The real differences are that the “Special” paperback edition is shorter when compared the regular edition, and that the price of the “Special” edition is $4.99, while the regular edition has a price of $6.99. The ISBN on the back cover of the “Special” edition is 142310113-8, while the regular edition’s ISBN is 07868366-3. Lastly are the two most important differences: the “Special” edition indeed has the words “SPECIAL EDITION” in red on the back cover as well as the front inner flap. Finally, the “Special” edition features a preview of Blood Fever at the end of the book, while the regular edition does not.

Thanks to some further investigations by The Young Bond Dossier, it turns out that this edition is most likely a Scholastic Book Fair title with the lower price. For a picture of this “Special” edition of SilverFin, check out The Young Bond Dossier.

Just how rare is this US “Special” paperback edition of SilverFin? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for all the latest Literary 007 news and coverage.
