    By Greg Nolle on 2005-12-25

It’s a bit late, but finally Goldeneye: Source is available in “alpha” release form, and just in time for some Christmas gaming.

For those who have never heard of Goldeneye: Source, here is some information from its official FAQ:

Goldeneye: Source is a HL2 Modification porting the N64 Classic to the Source Engine. The goal is to accurately recreate the Nintendo 64 Goldeneye experience on the Source Engine.

The weapons included in Goldeneye: Source are the same ones included in the Nintendo 64 version of the game. They will be coded so they accurately represent the original counterparts.

The plan is to include all of the original gameplay modes in Goldeneye: Source, plus a few new ones. Deathmatch will remain as the main mode of gameplay.

So if you’ve got a copy of HalfLife 2 lying around, pop along on to goldeneyesource.com and pick yourself up this great mod.

  5. More Details on EA's 'Casino Royale'

    By Matt Weston on 2005-12-23

Fresh off last week’s report that the next 007 game will be based on the upcoming James Bond film, Casino Royale comes more details of the next entry in EA’s canon.

Earlier this week, Kotaku revealed the new Bond game would be headed to current-generation consoles, despite rumours it was being developed for next-generation systems.

Now, the Advanced Media Network has revealed that, like Everything Or Nothing and From Russia With Love before it, Casino Royale will be a third-person action title. EA’s greatest success as Bond game franchise holders has come from this format with Everything Or Nothing being arguably its biggest critical and commercial hit (From Russia With Love, however, continues to experience slow sales).

Casino Royale, according to the Advanced Media Network, has been in pre-production since before From Russia With Love hit store shelves, with concept art and 3D models having already been completed. As previously reported by CBn, the game will feature the likeness of the new James Bond, Daniel Craig.

Expect the game’s release to coincide with Casino Royale‘s arrival in cinemas in late-2006.

Keep watching CBn for more details of EA’s Casino Royale as they come to hand.

  6. Next EA Game Is 'Casino Royale'

    By Evan Willnow on 2005-12-15

CBn has confirmed that the next James Bond video game from EA will be Casino Royale, based on the upcoming 21st Bond film which sees the début of Daniel Craig as 007. The game is planned to be released in conjunction with the movie in November 2006.

EA’s Casino Royale will feature a likeness of Craig as Bond and, per Eon’s requirements, will follow the plotline of the movie very closely.

CBn has not been able to confirm reports by gaming site kotaku.com that the game has been put on hold.

Meanwhile, EA’s From Russia With Love, which saw the return of Sean Connery as 007, has experienced disappointing sales in the US and UK. The game is currently number 20 on the UK charts while in the US it has failed to chart in the top 20 at all.

Amongst EA’s initial haul of soundtracks to be released are the scores to not one, but three of its James Bond videogames. Sean Callery’s Everything Or Nothing, Paul Oakenfold’s GoldenEye: Rogue Agent and Christopher Lennertz’s From Russia With Love (EA’s latest game, out this week) will all be released by the year’s end.

The soundtracks will be distributed to a number of DSPs including Apple iTunes, MSN, Yahoo Music, AOL Music, Rhapsody and more, as ringtones, mastertones or in .mp3 format. The move marks a first for the videogame industry, with EA the first interactive company to distribute its music catalogue in digital download format.

“Audiences today are media masters – they listen, play, download, watch and basically devour their entertainment in revolutionary new ways. They demand that the technology keep pace. This deal is a triumphant new commitment to making classic EA music and themes available to millions worldwide,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA. “We are proud to be on the cutting-edge of this trend with Nettwerk – an innovative and proven partner that is a world leader in digital music distribution.”

Nettwerk could not be more thrilled to partner with today’s most respected and exciting gaming brand, on the cusp and ahead of the curve,” said Terry McBride, CEO, Nettwerk Music Group. “We look forward to delivering EA’s bold themes and soundtracks to both gaming fans and music lovers alike.”
