  1. Who Wrote Madonnas Dialogue?

    By daniel on 2002-07-15

There seems a presumption that Madonna will have dialogue in her cameo role in Die Another Day, it's a strong possibility. However, a few media outlets have gone as far as to say that any dialogue that shall be uttered by Madonna wasn't written by script writers Neil Purvis and Robert Wade. Frankly, I think such a suggestion is just simply wrong.

The first news on the subject was Madonna's husband, director Guy Ritchie, had written the dialogue for the scene. Now comes news that Dan Cadan actually wrote the dialogue for the singers cameo role.

The news is quite obviously inaccurate. Cadan has worked on four films, and none of them as a writer. In one film he was an actor, the other three he served as crew. His connection with Madonna is due to his crew work. He worked on Snatch, Swept Away and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, three films produced and directed by Guy Ritchie.

While there is no official word on the matter, why would anyone be hired to simply write Madonna's dialogue for a cameo when Purvis and Wade could have done it themselves?

Thanks to 'Colonel Moon' for sending in the Dan Cadan news.

  2. 'A View To A Kill': Evolution Of An Ad Campaign

    By johncox on 2002-07-14

Our look at the evolution of a films advert campaign continues today with this look at A View To A Kill.

The concept design for the AVTAK campaign suggests Grace Jones will feature prominently.

The breath-taking Advance-A poster used an image of Moore from Octopussy.

The Advance-B poster pitches the Bond/May Day match up…

The final US one-sheet… but where’s May Day?

The Thai version combines the 3 U.S. posters into one and uses a small amount of original art.

A rare UK one-sheet returns to the simple Bond/May day match up.

This German poster combines the Advance-B poster and the final US one-sheet.

AVTAK comes to TV and gets a new tag line (that's quite a mouthful). Whatever happened to less is more?

The AVTAK DVD gets a new title logo and uses a pic of Moore from Octopussy. The question is, why?

  3. Films Final Scenes Had To Be Re-Shot…

    By David Winter on 2002-07-13

British tabloid The Sun, has today written a report detailing the filming of the closing scenes of Die Another Day. The final shots had to be done again after farmer; Emyr Brown, who had been catering for the film crew all week, drove his tractor in the backround of some of the shots.

The paper went onto mention that the producers had created a Japanease beach, complete with an oriental beach-hut. It is more than likely that the reporter; John Coles confused Japan with Korea, where Eon Productions have all ready stated the film will end.

The shot was taken from a helicopter Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) which was to film the crash of another helicopter. Minders for the cast and crew were also on hand during their week of shooting to keep star-spotters and the press well-away from the shoot and risk comprimising the ending.

One local made the joke; :“I don’t know if Emyr keeps any pigs, but he’s got a licence to swill now.”

  5. Madonna's Title Track And Up-tempo Piece

    By daniel on 2002-07-11

It seems the majority of Die Another Day news at the moment is all related to Madonna, something everyone expected when her involvement in the film was announced. But if it does the film some good, then I guess Bond fans everywhere will just have to accept it.

'robster006' has today checked in with some news on Madonna's title track for Die Another Day. Unlike previous Bond tracks Madonna's will not be a ballad, but rather an up-tempo track. I recently learnt that a version has been played at Eon offices in London which was described as 'rap'. While the person was listening to the Die Another Day title track, it was possible that they were listening to a remixed version that will appear on the single.

In related news, while Madonna jets off to LA to record the video-clip for the song it has also been confirmed that director Guy Ritchie, her husband, won't be directing the video clip.

And finally, the song has been produced by Mirwais. You can visit his official site here.

  8. First: Extracts From Original Purvis And Wade Interview!

    By David Winter on 2002-07-10

As CBn reported yesterday, the screenwriters of Die Another Day, Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, were interviewed by English newspaper "Express". "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" had an article on that, today CBn can bring you the most interesting extracts from the original article!

Purvis & Wade on Die Another Day
Where do you go for glamorous locations when 007 already lays claim to being the world's best travelled secret agent? How do you top stunts such as GE's vertical-inducing bungee jump?…But the pair are happy with the way DAD has turned out, "It's a grown-up Bond movie".

Purvis & Wade on Pierce Brosnan
"Pierce is very approachable. He is on first-name terms with most of the crew and often hangs out with them during breaks in filming. A lot of Hollywood stars aren't like that, they just troop from the trailer to the sound stage and back again with a ridiculously large entourage."

Purvis & Wade on Minor Script Changes
Within moments of sitting down – one of their mobiles goes off. It is Michael Wilson. He wants to make a change to a scene in the film, currently being shot at Pinewood Studios. "Typical", signs Purvis. "You have a day off, then the actors don't know what to say." He and Wade retreat to a corner of the bar where they hastily improvise some new dialogue for a scene in which 007 plunges from a helicopter.

Purvis & Wade on Career Reflection
They earned pin-money coming with storylines for pop videos, and were even flown out to Italy to meet a producer who wanted to make a film about Elton John kidnapping the 11 greatest footballers in the world to play them against his own team of robots. This, they say, "was a low point among low points".

Purvis & Wade on Bond 21
Of course they would like to write the next Bond film But Wade diplomatically answers: "You can't presume anything in this business."

  10. Colin Salmon On Techno-Babe M and Jinx

    By David Winter on 2002-07-09

    Empire Online has published a small article about Colin Salmon, who plays Charles Robinson in Die Another Day. There are some interesting points in the article, especially some humorous comments about Dame Judi Dench;

British actor Colin Salmon is now back serving his country as MI6's number two in Die Another Day. M's right-hand-man, Salmon is, as ever, thrilled to be working alongside Dame Judi Dench, though the cast have been doing their best to make Dench's experience an educational one. "Judi's a dream, she's amazing," Salmon told Empire Online. "We got her into iPods and MP3s on this job so M is now a techno-babe."

With this year marking the 40th anniversary of the series, the latest Bond adventure will have some special treats for long-time followers of the screen spy. "It's going to be really memorable," said Salmon. "It's the 40th anniversary and there's so many references for real Bond fans who know about the films. There are lots of references in the movie, it's one you definitely don't want to miss."

Life on the Bond set seems to be treating the cast well with high expectations for 007's twentieth outing – "the story's great, you'll see… it all breaks open" – and, while Halle Berry has graduated to Oscar-winner status, Salmon has no doubts that there's nowhere she'd rather be than working on Britain's most famous franchise. "Jinx is a really well-written part, the writers have done amazing stuff. The character is complex, interesting. She's a hero. That's the thing, we now have strong women and they do the business."
