  1. How Brosnan Upset Madonna

    By daniel on 2002-10-16

British GQ have reported that not everything went smoothly on the set of Die Another Day after Madonna joined the list of cameo roles in the film. It seems Madonna doesn’t quite like her old songs sung back to her, as Pierce Brosnan found out.

“She definitely pushes your button, and I made that mistake,” says Brosnan after his run-in with the title song singer. “The guys in the trailer were joking around the day that she was on set, singing Like a Virgin. I’m miles away, and I’m out there with my saber and she’s all dressed up in her costume and I forget that she’s there and I start singing Like A Virgin. And oh man, Jesus! That’s like a red rag to a bull. She thought that I was pulling her chain. She said, ‘Are you trying to dis me?’ and I said, ‘No, Madonna. No, for God’s sake, No!’ “

Despite Brosnan’s initial ‘dissing’ of Madonna, the rest of the shoot apparently went to plan.

Baltimore to Host East Coast Premiere of James Bond Die Another Day
Gala Screening to Benefit Hopkins Cardiovascular Center

Baltimore – October 1, 2002 – Sporting his usual gadgets, girls and gripping adventures, James Bond is expected to thrill moviegoers at the East Coast premiere of Die Another Day on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at The Historic Senator Theatre.

Proceeds of the premiere will benefit The Dana and Albert “Cubby” Broccoli Center for Aortic Diseases in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Best known as the producer of the James Bond film series, along with his wife, Dana, the late “Cubby” Broccoli was treated successfully at Hopkins for a life-threatening aneurysm in 1994, and subsequently, the couple provided a gift in 1996 to establish the Center.

Die Another Day, the 20th James Bond film, stars Pierce Brosnan and Academy Award winner Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball). This year also marks the 40th anniversary of James Bond’s debut on the big screen. The world premiere is scheduled for Nov. 18 in London, followed by the public release on Nov. 22.

The Hopkins benefit gala event features a champagne reception at 7 p.m. at The Senator Theatre prior to the 8 p.m. screening. Tickets are $100 per person. Those in search of more Bondsian exposure can become a Goldfinger Sponsor for $1,000. This includes two Gold Tickets for a Shaken, Not Stirred cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. at Pimlico Race Course, and roundtrip limousine service to The Senator. Most of each ticket price may be deductible as a charitable contribution. Tickets are limited.

The Broccoli Center, co-directed by Vincent Gott, M.D., professor of surgery, and Duke Cameron, M.D., professor of surgery and director of pediatric cardiac surgery, was among the pioneer units in the country to integrate the work of multiple disciplines in the area of aortic and cardiac research. In addition to research, each year the Center treats a large number of patients with aortic disease — from newborns to the elderly. By bringing together leading physicians and scientists in clinical and laboratory research focused solely on aortic disease, the Broccoli Center has made key advances in the field.

This is the third Bond premiere event donated by the Broccoli family to benefit the Center.

  5. "I've Tried To Make A Thriller!"

    By Tim Roth on 2002-10-14

German Cinema Magazine Blickpunkt Film has published an interview with Die Another Day director Lee Tamahori.

    Extracts:

How big is the influence of Barbara and Mickey G?
Both, Barbara and Michael are creative heads who are behind most of the stories of the Bond movies. A Bond movie is a work between the producers, the screen writers and me. We all were sitting in one room and discussed our ideas.

What did you try to change?
I have built up the female main character. The same I did with the smaller roles. Somehow those lovely small characters like Kerim Bey in From Russia With Love disappeared. I’ve tried to change that. I want those people to return in the Bond movies. Well, and another big decission was made about the end. During shooting we’ve regocnized that we were shooting a classical Bond finale. But I didn’t want just the bomb tick boom boom end. So we’ve developped the end and had to re-shoot some scenes.

And the studio did let you do that?
The studio was clever enough to realize that you have to spent a lot of money to earn a lot of money.

    How do you like XXX?
I liked it as action film. But give them 10 years and you’ll see what happens. “Lethal Weapon” made four, “Die Hard” three. I don’t believe XXX will make more than three. John Calley from Sony doesn’t like the Broccoli Clan. Maybe that was the reason why he praised his movie so much.

Please head over to this thread in our Die Another Day Forums to discuss the interview!

  6. Madonna's Theme Hits Music Charts

    By daniel on 2002-10-13

With continuing airplay Madonna’s theme for Die Another Day has debuted on music charts world wide, despite the fact that the song has not been released as a single.

In the United States the theme song has debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 41st position. In its first week on the chart the song has been referred to by Billboard as a ‘Hot Shot Debut’.

Meanwhile, in Australia, where airplay continues to grow, the theme song is yet to debut on the Aria Charts. However, that hasn’t stopped the song debuting on ‘Take 40 Australia’, a program which is dedicated to the top forty songs played throughout the continent.

It is uncertain as how high the song will finally reach in charts world-wide, though experts are predicting that the song will enter in to the top ten section of the charts in at least the United States and the United Kingdom.

  7. Virtual Bond Rooms Appear Online

    By daniel on 2002-10-13

Some examples of the awesome design work of Peter Lamont and Co. is now available on the official James Bond site. In an update that follows the succesful marketing of the last James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, MGM has released a ‘virtual tour’ of three locations that will feature in Die Another Day.

The three featured sets on the official site are the gentleman club Blades, Miranda Frost’s icey suite in the Ice Palace and the main room of the Ice Palace. All three virtual tours are presented using VR technology in Apple Quicktime.

The virtual tours, which are available in varying qualities, also include ‘hot spots’, meaning Bond fans can also view rooms attached to the aforementioned sets. For instance, the VR tour of Blades takes 007 fans through two interior rooms and an external courtyard.

The official site has also added several more music clips to its sound gallery.

  8. 3rd Bunch of 'DAD' Pictures Online

    By Tim Roth on 2002-10-11

DVD Web has just published the 3rd set of Pictures from “Die Another Day”. Most of them were never seen before, and there is one quite interesting still.

    Spoiler (Highlight To Read)

You can see Jinx lifting up what looks like that face changing mask off someone’s head. So is it the Moon/Graves mask or the Zao Mask? We don’t know yet. But another interesting question is jumping to my mind. Jinx is wearing the red clothes she wears when she accesses Graves’ Biodome. So is the face changing system actually located in the Biodome? That would bring up the question why Zao is in Cuba?

Please discuss the new pictures in this thread in CBn’s Die Another Day Forums! And thanks to forum user ‘Christmas Tounes’ for the alert!

    By daniel on 2002-10-11

The site, which aims to promote the car driven by Jinx in Die Another Day, feautres a Sweepstakes competitions, a Vehicle Briefing and a Die Another Day ‘folio’. The folio will be of particular interest to Bond fans as it contains some unique wallpaper and a tv spot for the car, amongst other things.

The TV Spot features some never-before-seen footage from Die Another Day, projected over the body of the Thunderbird in what could also be considered a homage to the Goldfinger titles. The new footage includes Bond kissing Jinx’s stomach in an Asian room (it’s possibly set in Hong Kong), Bond running in the Cuban Clinic, Jinx and Mirdanda Frost duelling and the Ford Thunderbird approaching the Ice Palace.
