In what has quickly become par for the course, another international release date for Quantum of Solace has changed.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Daniel Craig’s second James Bond film will now be released on 19 November in Australia, one week ahead of the previously announced 26 November date.

The Bond move results after 20th Century Fox decided to move Nicole Kidman’s Australia to the 26 November weekend.

Cinema executives were relieved with Sony’s decision to move 007 up a week and put some space into what will likely be two of the biggest blockbusters in the region.

‘I don’t think it makes an awful lot of sense to have two movies of that size opening against one another,’ said the managing director of the Greater Union cinema chain, Ross Entwistle. ‘It makes for a healthier market if there’s a gap between movies of that scale.’

In related release date news, two other shifts have resulted in delays for the film. Quantum of Solace has been shifted to 21 November in Spain and 14 November in Mexico (the film was previously slated to open in 7 November in both territories).

While promoting the 007 film, the campaign will simultaneously be highlighting Sony’s High Definition product capabilities worldwide, while still allowing each region to customize elements based on local market preferences.

‘Sophistication, quality and international appeal make James Bond a perfect fit with the Sony brand,’ said Andrew House, Chief Marketing Officer, Sony Corporation. ‘This is the first time we have integrated our film and electronics marketing efforts at such a deep level, bringing together Sony’s leadership in high definition with one of the world’s most powerful movie franchises. Sony is unique in its ability to create a global marketing campaign that combines technological innovation with entertainment content in this way.’

Set to launch this month, the far-reaching campaign will include broadcast, digital, outdoor, print and retail ads promoting Sony’s BRAVIA LCD flat-panel televisions, Blu-ray Disc Players, Handycam camcorders, Cyber-shot digital still cameras and VAIO computers.

Furthermore, Sony Style online stores in Europe and North America will offer licensed 007 products including VAIO computers and Micro Vault USB storage media, with VAIO computers available only in Sony Style retail and direct online at sonystyle.com.

  3. Coke Zero Bonding With 'Quantum of Solace'

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-09-03

In addition to the several high-profile companies that will be showcasing their brands in Quantum of Solace, news today comes in on another new marketing partner for the 22nd James Bond film: Coca-Cola Zero.

Click here for a snapshot of the new ‘Zero Zero 7’ Coca-Cola bottles that will tie-in with Quantum of Solace.

    The press release follows:

Coke Zero Teams Up With ‘Quantum Of Solace’

Coca-Cola has teamed up with Sony Entertainment and the hotly anticipated 22th instalment of James Bond, Quantum of Solace, to promote its Coke Zero brand and has rebranded as Zero Zero 7.

The multi-million pound deal is part of a broader global partnership and is the first major collaboration for the Coca-Cola Zero brand on an international stage since its launch in 2006.

Quantum of Solace stars Daniel Craig in his second outing as 007 and will be released first in the UK on 31 October 2008. In the new film, Bond battles Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a member of the Quantum organisation posing as an environmentalist, who intends to stage a coup d’état in Bolivia to take control of its water supply.

Coke Zero will be supporting the film release with a through-the-line advertising campaign alongside promotional and on-pack marketing initiatives across a number of global markets.

The launch of the Zero brand was the Coca-Cola company’s biggest brand launch since the arrival of ‘diet Coke’ twenty five years ago.

Bobby Brittain, Brand Director, Coca-Cola Great Britain, said, “We’re delighted to be involved in this exciting project. The new edgier Bond persona is the ultimate embodiment of the ‘Coke Zero’ brand personality, and is expected to deepen the brand’s engagement with its core target audience of 20 something men.”

Other brands that have singed up with the newest James Bond flick include Ford, Omega, Heineken, Virgin Atlantic, Bollinger and Turnbull & Asser.

Last month Coca-Cola launched a major integrated campaign to mark its 80th anniversary as sponsor of the Olympic Games.

The drinks giant celebrated its anniversary by launching a limited edition Olympic Games glass bottle to commemorate the 2012 handover to London. The bottles, include an image created by photographer Rankin to kick-off the countdown to London 2012.

  4. 'Quantum of Solace' – Official Blog Report #24

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-09-02

The official Quantum of Solace blog has been updated today with another crew member from the 22nd James Bond 007 film: picture vehicle supervisor Graham Kelly.

Watch The Graham Kelly Blog Report Online

‘I’m the picture vehicle supervisor,’ says Graham Kelly. ‘I’m responsible for all the vehicles: planes, boats, cars, motorbikes, anything with ignition keys. And basically just getting all the vehicles to the locations and making them work, really.’

‘On a daily basis, we’re moving 20 to 30 cars around. We had seven Aston Martins, eight Alfa Romeos, ten trucks and 40 background cars. In order to make it feel real, you need to have background cars, even if they’re just flying around for a split-second on screen.’

He continues: ‘They’re interacting with stunt cars and people driving at very high speeds going all over the road. We had 60 or 70 cars just moving around the streets.’

  6. BBFC Passes 'Quantum of Solace' Video Trailer

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-08-29

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) passed a new Quantum of Solace trailer on 27 August.

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

This new trailer (click here for details), submitted by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, has a runtime of 1 minute 44 seconds and has been labeled a Video Trailer.

This new video trailer is expected to be very similar, if not identical to the original teaser trailer, and should not be confused with the forthcoming theatrical trailer for the film.

Because this trailer has been submitted by Twentieth Century Fox, and not Columbia Pictures, and is labeled a Video Trailer, it will likely appear as an advertisement on the upcoming Blu-ray releases of the James Bond films in October and other DVD and Blu-ray discs.

Meanwhile, Spanish Bond site Archivo 007 have posted a report with updated details on the forthcoming theatrical trailer. First announced to have a 11 September release date, the site reports that Sony Pictures Spain has forecasted, but not confirmed the release of the second trailer at 9:00am on MSN on 9 September in Spain.

CommanderBond.net will keep you updated with all the latest details on the Quantum of Solace trailers.

  8. James Bond Boosts Pinewood's Profits

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-08-28

James Bond has helped boost the half-year profits of UK’s Pinewood Shepperton studios.

Screen Daily reports that the studio reported a 31% year-on-year increase in half-year pre-tax profits to $6.7 million (£3.8m) partly as a result of several major film shoots, such as Quantum of Solace. Revenues rose 19% to $39.9 million (£21.7m) with revenues from film up 20% to $23.8 million (£13m).

In addition to the 22nd Bond production, Pinewood is currently hosting Richard Curtis’s The Boat That Rocked and The Wolfman.

This marks a major improvement from last year, when the studio took a $6 million (£3.2m) hit because of cancelled shoots due to the writers’ strike, the pound-to-dollar exchange rate and a new tax system.

Business is now ‘back on track’ at the home of 007, according to CEO Ivan Dunleavy. ‘The tax regime [this year] encourages confidence and that in turn brings sustainable growth,’ he stated.

The improved revenues for this year were proof of Pinewood’s ‘consistent revenue streams even in times of wider economic uncertainty.’

    A press release follows below:

    Bond Shoot Boosts Pinewood Profits

Blockbuster film shoots such as the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace have helped boost half-year profits at film studios Pinewood Shepperton.

Other new movies using the historic studios included the 1960s pirate radio station movie The Boat That Rocked, scripted by Notting Hill author Richard Curtis, and werewolf feature The Wolfman.

The movies lifted film revenues–the group’s core business–to £13 million during the half year to June 30, up from £10.8 million the previous year. Pinewood’s overall revenues were up 19% to £21.7 million, with pre-tax profits 31% ahead at £3.8 million.

The group suffered a £3 million revenues hit last year after a big movie shoot was cancelled because of the US writers strike.

Buckinghamshire-based Pinewood warned there could be more trouble ahead from a new dispute between the Screen Actors Guild in the US and studios.

The parties are in negotiations over pay and conditions and although there are hopes of an upcoming settlement, Pinewood said its film revenues could be affected next year if the dispute is not resolved.

Pinewood’s TV income also improved 23% to £5.8 million during the first half thanks to hosting shows such as Sky TV’s big budget Gladiators, The Lily Allen Show and The Weakest Link. The company operates TV studios and production facilities in Shepperton, Surrey, and Teddington, London.

Chief executive Ivan Dunleavy said the results were proof of the group’s ability to deliver “consistent revenue streams even in times of wider economic uncertainty.”

He said “visibility on prospective revenues” meant he was confident about the year as a whole.

Pinewood is trying to diversify away from the film industry into more TV production and property ventures.

  10. Alicia Keys And Jack White May Perform On James Bond-Themed 'X Factor'

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-08-26

Digital Spy is reporting that Alicia Keys and Jack White may be performing on a special James Bond-themed X Factor show.

While the news and a date is yet to be officially confirmed, it is expected that Keys and White would be performing their all new duet, ‘Another Way To Die’, which is the official theme for Quantum of Solace.

Additionally, the finalists on the show will also be performing past 007 themes. An insider told The Sun: ‘It’s going to be brilliant. All the judges can wear black tie and we’ll have a live orchestra. There are some great songs for the finalists to choose from.’

‘Perhaps Simon Cowell can persuade Daniel Craig to pop in or Shirley Bassey or Duran Duran can perform.’

‘Everyone is excited about it. Let’s face it, Simon would make an ideal Blofeld, Cheryl would be perfect as Pussy Galore, Dannii could be Vesper Lynd–and of course Louis would be Miss Moneypenny.’
