  2. Her Majesty The Queen To Attend Casino Royale's World Premiere

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-24

The CTBF, which originally announced details on the royal world premiere of Casino Royale in late July has updated their press release to include further information about ticket availability and the attendance of Her Majesty The Queen.

Bond World Premiere marks the 60th Anniversary of the CTBF’s Royal Film Performance

This year’s Royal Film Performance promises to be more spectacular than ever.

To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the CTBF’s biggest fundraising event, the whole of Leicester Square will be taken over for the World Premiere of Casino Royale – this year’s chosen film. Read the original press release here.

HM The Queen, patron of the CTBF, will attend the star-studded event on Tuesday 14th November 2006.

Peter Hore, Chief Executive of the CTBF, said: “It is wonderful that such a highly anticipated film should mark our diamond jubilee year.

“We are turning Leicester Square into one vast multiplex cinema – taking over all three cinemas in the Square – The Odeon Leicester Square, The Odeon West End and the Empire. It is our biggest, most spectacular event so far.”

All three cinemas will be connected by red carpet and CCTV footage of the stars arriving will be shown in all the cinemas prior to the film. Around 4,500 people are due to sit down and watch the World Premiere of the latest Bond movie simultaneously.

The Royal Film Performance is one of the highlights of the film industry’s calendar, and in its sixty year history has attracted such titles as Chariots of Fire, Empire of The Sun, Titanic and Star Wars Episode I.

“Nearly half a million pounds was raised for the CTBF from Die Another Day in 2002 and again last year with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” Peter said.

“The Royal film has got to be special – it has to be an international premiere and it’s got to be very exclusive and the latest Bond movie perfectly fits the bill,” he added.

Buckingham Palace will also be marking the Royal Film Performance’s 60th Anniversary with a special themed Changing of the Guards on Thursday 9th November. A selection of classic Bond tunes will be played by the Band of The Scots Guards.

All funds raised from the World Premiere of Casino Royale will go to the CTBF, the unique trade charity of the film and television industries.

Due to unprecedented demand there are no further tickets available for the Royal Premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square or the Simultaneous Screenings at the Odeon West End and Empire cinema. The pre-premiere Cocktail Reception at Penthouse, No.1 Leicester Square has also sold out.

Tickets are still available for the first public screening of Casino Royale at the Odeon Leicester Square. This late night screening takes place after the World Premiere on November 14th, 2006.

Further details relating to the Late Night Screening, timings, price of tickets etc. will be published in due course – please check the website for updates.

  6. Behind The Scenes Of Casino Royale's Heineken Commercial

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-22

It was previously announced on CBn that the Heineken commercial for Casino Royale featuring Eva Green had been posted online at YouTube.

Today, a small making-of documentary for the commercial has additionally appeared online. Featured are Eva Green, director Stephen Gaghan, (Syriana) and several others associated with the production of the ad.

‘The match is perfect. Classic Bond, classic spy. A brand that has the same personality as Heineken. High drama, and a touch of wit.

The commercial was shot at Grand Hotel Pupp, which doubles as Hotel Splendide in Casino Royale ‘We felt that to be true to what we wanted, we needed to be true to the movie. So we chose to shoot using authentic locations,’ says Heineken International Communications Manager Shane Hoyne.

‘We viewed this as a 30-60 second mini-film. A great piece of Bond film is a hard thing to come up with. It’s got to be really exciting, and it’s got to have a little bit of wit to it and it’s got to be clever. It’s got to have everything that a James Bond film delivers,’ says Executive Creative Director Kevin McKeon.

Regarding the choice of Green for the commercial, McKeon says: ‘There were a number of characters in the film we could have chose. We [went with] Eva Green; this new look of a Bond girl.’

The commercial was directed by Stephen Gaghan, who most recently directed 2005’s Syriana. ‘I’m very happy he’s doing the commercial because it’s quite edgy and unusual… he cares about the characters,’ says Green on working with Gaghan.

McKeon concludes: ‘It’s a perfect tie-in to what the beer is all about. It’s about sophistication … and adventure and excitement.’

  8. Premiere Goes Inside Casino Royale

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-21

It was previously announced on the CBn Forums that Premiere Magazine was featuring an article on Casino Royale for its November 2006 issue (which has been available since 10 October for fans who haven’t obtained a copy yet): ‘Craig. Daniel Craig. Will The New Bond Hit The Jackpot In Casino Royale?’

After the release of 2002’s Die Another Day it was ‘very important to bring [the series] back down to earth,’ says producer Michael G. Wilson. With the decision made on Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale and the ultimate casting of Daniel Craig as the new 007, all Bond fans know what followed after was a media frenzy regarding Craig as Bond. Craig explains that when he was first approached by Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, his answer was ‘No. I’m not interested.’

Another meeting followed which led to the script for Casino Royale eventually making its way into Craig’s hands. ‘It read brilliantly,’ he says. ‘…And I got that cold bead of sweat down my forehead, going “Oh, shit.” So we moved along with it.’

‘It was a learning curve for him,’ says director Martin Campbell of the injuries Craig sustained while working on the film; in the free-running sequence with Sebastien Foucan specifically. Campbell further explained how the harsh scenes actually worked toward a goal of making Casino Royale: a more realistic Bond film.

And what about the Bond girls? ‘We wanted an actress to take on [the role] and go, “We have to turn this upside-down,”‘ says Craig. ‘[Eva Green] is perfect for this … there’s a great friction there.’

Caterina Murino says of her role of ‘Solange’ in the film: ‘I’m very glad. I hope that it can open more doors.’

Campbell promises a ‘harrowing’ finale in Venice for the film as well. ‘We didn’t [previously] equate depth with Bond, and the truth is that whenever we tried to achieve depth, it didn’t fit. If it doesn’t work with in this, I don’t think it can work in a Bond film.

‘I’ve been involved every step of the way,’ says Craig. ‘It made me think, Okay, let’s do the second one now. And let’s make it better. Because I know now we can make it better. And it’s not that [Casino Royale] isn’t fantastic.’

  10. Casino Royale Reviewed By The Sun

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-20

    Minor Plot Spoilers

The Sun claims to have attended a preview screening of Casino Royale and today offers readers their review of the newest 007 film.

The hook? ‘Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery… [his] performance is so strong he could even make moviegoers forget there was anyone between himself and Connery.’

It was previously revealed on CBn that Casino Royale would have a run time of approximately 140 minutes, and that is apparently a bit too long according to The Sun. ‘You will need to concentrate as you follow the story because, running at a whopping two hours and 20 minutes, the movie is 20 minutes too long.’

‘A healthy bit of editing would have avoided confusing scenes where some characters appear and disappear inexplicably. And, often, the characters do things for no apparent reason.’

‘Fortunately, the action sequences more than compensate for the complicated plot.’

‘Campbell has ditched the computer-generated imagery and gone back to real stunts–which give Casino Royale a real awe factor. The set-piece with a terrorist called Mollaka crackles with energy.’
