  1. Behind The Scenes Of Casino Royale's Heineken Commercial

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-22

It was previously announced on CBn that the Heineken commercial for Casino Royale featuring Eva Green had been posted online at YouTube.

Today, a small making-of documentary for the commercial has additionally appeared online. Featured are Eva Green, director Stephen Gaghan, (Syriana) and several others associated with the production of the ad.

‘The match is perfect. Classic Bond, classic spy. A brand that has the same personality as Heineken. High drama, and a touch of wit.

The commercial was shot at Grand Hotel Pupp, which doubles as Hotel Splendide in Casino Royale ‘We felt that to be true to what we wanted, we needed to be true to the movie. So we chose to shoot using authentic locations,’ says Heineken International Communications Manager Shane Hoyne.

‘We viewed this as a 30-60 second mini-film. A great piece of Bond film is a hard thing to come up with. It’s got to be really exciting, and it’s got to have a little bit of wit to it and it’s got to be clever. It’s got to have everything that a James Bond film delivers,’ says Executive Creative Director Kevin McKeon.

Regarding the choice of Green for the commercial, McKeon says: ‘There were a number of characters in the film we could have chose. We [went with] Eva Green; this new look of a Bond girl.’

The commercial was directed by Stephen Gaghan, who most recently directed 2005’s Syriana. ‘I’m very happy he’s doing the commercial because it’s quite edgy and unusual… he cares about the characters,’ says Green on working with Gaghan.

McKeon concludes: ‘It’s a perfect tie-in to what the beer is all about. It’s about sophistication … and adventure and excitement.’
