  2. JBIFC Celebrates 25th Anniversary Today

    By johncox on 2004-04-01

    25 Years of 'OO7' Magazine

The James Bond International Fan Club is today celebrating its 25th Anniversary. The JBFIC was launched on April 1st, 1979 with ‘OO7’ Magazine #1, which at that time was simply a single sheet of photocopied paper. Today ‘OO7’ has grown into a high quality 46 page full color magazine, and the club membership extends worldwide. Chairman David Black announced this milestone via the club’s email newsletter this morning:

    Dear Bond Fans,

Today is our 25th birthday – that’s right, JBIFC was born on 1st April 1979. We haven’t been around as long as Mr Bond, whose life on screen began over 40 years ago in 1962 but we’ve still been celebrating and discussing his outings for a quarter of a century.

I believe the James Bond films will continue to be shown and new ones produced for a long time to come and we intend to be here to celebrate the world’s number one film franchise.

Since I last spoke the air has been rife with rumours, claims and counter-claims. Pierce – One minute he’s too old and not making a fifth film, the next he is making it….

Well, what’s the truth.. Radio listeners amongst you may have had the pleasure of hearing my views on the subject! The recent press has resulted in a lot of requests to the JBIFC for interviews about the future of Bond, and so I’ve been doing the rounds with the BBC and radio stations up and down the UK.

I’m led to believe that Eon see Pierce as ‘their preferred actor for the part’ and that negotiations are still taking place.

Pierce will probably make the next film and then James Bond will once again undergo a facelift.
I think Pierce has done an excellent job with his portrayal of 007 and hope his successor will be able to live up to the high standards that have been set.

James Bond will return – You can be sure of that!

    All the best,

    David Black
    Chairman
The James Bond International Fan Club

  10. Screening of "The Thomas Crown Affair" on March 16th in Los Angeles

    By Athena Stamos on 2004-02-24

There will be a screening of the Thomas Crown Affair (1999) on Tuesday March 16th at 7:30 p.m at the Pacific Arclight Cinema in Hollywood, CA. Pierce Brosnan will then appear after the film with his co-producer Beau St. Clair to discuss the film and its sequel.

For those of you that live in the Los Angeles area tickets can be purchased (They’re going FAST) by going to www.arclightcinemas.com

  11. Actor/Producer Pierce Brosnan & Producer Beau St. Clair Q&A Following “The Thomas Crown Affair”
  12. Stars: Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo, Denis Leary
    Director: John McTiernan
    Rating: R
Running Time: 1 hr. 57 min.
    Genre: Romance/Thriller/Comedy

Golden Globe nominated actor Pierce Brosnan is one of a growing group of A-List stars that actively develop and produce their own material rather than simply wait to see what agents and studios offer them. With producing partner Beau St. Clair his production company Irish DreamTime has created an evocative mix of personal passion projects like critically acclaimed independent feature Evelyn and mainstream, high profile films like The Thomas Crown Affair.

Generally speaking, most remakes end up as disappointingly watered-down affairs simply because the elements that made the original film so memorable prove difficult to replicate, let alone improve on. The Thomas Crown Affair is a welcome exception with many critics proclaiming the 1999 version superior to the 1968 original thanks to the combination of ideal casting, a witty script by Leslie Dixon & Kurt Wimmer and deft direction by action specialist John McTiernan. This version of ‘Affair’ is a sophisticated caper film with a sexy cat and mouse game at its core. Audiences obviously agreed with a worldwide box office of over $100,000,000 and a sequel currently in development.

Special thanks to Ry for this scoop!

  13. Brian Smith: Edinburgh's 007 Celebration Coordinator Has More 007 Instore

    By Athena Stamos on 2004-02-12

    Bond And Beyond presents…
a special 40th anniversary screening of the classic Bond movie
    GOLDFINGER
    with special guest Shirley Eaton

    Dominion Cinema, Edinburgh
    Thursday, 25 March, 2004
    8.00pm

    Ticket hotline (UK): 0131 447 4771

    Gold lounge seats: £6.90
    Superior lounge seats: £6.00
    Lounge seats: £5.50

    • Live on-stage interview with Shirley Eaton
    • Screening of the Bond classic ‘Goldfinger’
    • Autograph & book signing session

A screening of Goldfinger will take place on March 25 at the Dominion Cinema and has been organized by leading James Bond expert Brian Smith of Port Seton, East Lothian.

Shirley Eaton, now 67, who gained worldwide fame by lying naked on a bed covered in gold paint, will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Goldfinger in the home city of its star, Sean Connery. Eaton played the character of Jill Masterson who was killed by bowler-hatted henchman Odd Job using a suffocating layer of glistening gold paint. Before a special showing Goldfinger, Eaton will be interviewed live on stage at the Dominion Cinema by Brian Smith.

“Shirley was a very big name in British cinema before Goldfinger, which gave her international status. She even appeared on the cover of Life magazine. But she more or less retired in 1968 to devote herself to her husband and children.” -Brian Smith

In December last year, Bond fans had the chance to meet actor Richard Kiel, who played steel-toothed giant Jaws, when he appeared at the Filmhouse before a showing of The Spy Who Loved Me.

“We had Richard Kiel over for a sell-out appearance and I know a lot of people were disappointed they didn’t get to see him. The Filmhouse can only hold 280 people, but the Dominion can take 430. I hope this one will be sold out too.” -Brian Smith

Mr Smith is currently in talks to persuade American actress Tanya Roberts, now 48, to fly over to attend a similar special screening of “A View To A Kill”. Roberts played Bond’s love interest, Stacy Sutton, in AVTAK. In the film her seismologist character helped Bond foil a plot by the villainous Max Zorin to destroy California’s Silicon Valley.

    A Bit about Brian Smith:
He runs the Edinburgh-based “Bond And Beyond”, the world’s largest 007 online shop as well as publishing Bond Magazine. (picture: Brian Smith and the director of Goldfinger, Guy Hamilton)

Despite his devotion to all things 007, Mr Smith, 34, does not have a favorite Bond: “I know 99 per cent of people from Edinburgh would say it was Sean Connery but I like different films from each actor. For Your Eyes Only was the first one I saw at the cinema when I was 11 and it blew me away. My interest really stemmed from there. I’ve been to every Bond premiere down in London since The Living Daylights in 1987.”

His wife Fiona, 27, does not complain that an entire room in their home is taken up by his Bond collection: “My wife’s very supportive, although she’s not a fan herself, but she likes going to the premieres, especially when she meets Pierce Brosnan. I suppose that’s the advantage of being married to a big James Bond fan!”
