  2. Charlie Higson Hard At Work On 'Young Bond 5'

    By Matt Weston on 2007-07-20

The Young Bond Dossier today highlights comments made by Young Bond author Charlie Higson during the BBC Radio 4 programme Amis, Amis And Bond (available online), in which he confirmed he is currently writing the fifth – and what appears to be final – novel in the highly successful Young Bond series.

“It appears Bond and I may be sharing an office for some time yet,” Higson said.

While no release date has been announced for Young Bond 5, Higson’s fourth Young Bond novel, Hurricane Gold, is due out on 6 September 2007 (a mere 007 weeks away, The Young Bond Dossier points out!).

As 2008 marks the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth, James Bond fans have been promised a plethora of 007-related books and events to mark the occasion, including Sebastian Faulks‘ highly-publicised Devil May Care, Samantha Weinberg’s trilogy-concluding The Moneypenny Diaries: Final Fling and the graphic novel adaptation of Higson’s debut Young Bond novel, SilverFin; it would not be unreasonable to speculate we may also see the fifth Young Bond book released next year.

Details are scarce, but the fifth instalment will feature Windsor Castle and a plot that may or may not involve the Royal Family. Higson has also revealed that the novel will see Bond’s first encounter with the secret service.

“All will be revealed in Book 5,” Higson said in May last year. “I have been planting some seeds, but nobody will really put it all together until the last book is published.”

  3. No Proof Editon For Charlie Higson's 'Hurricane Gold'

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-07-08

    Charlie Higson’s Hurricane Gold

The Young Bond Dossier has some rather disappointing news (for collectors in any event) today regarding Charlie Higson’s fourth Young James Bond novel, Hurricane Gold–there will be no proof edition.

Uncorrected/Advance proofs are early copies of a novel sent to bookstores and media outlets meant to generate public awareness and interest. Since they are not readily made available to the general public and are published in limited quantities, they can be difficult to track down.

The three previous Young Bond novels, SilverFin, Blood Fever and Double Or Die, were all released as uncorrected proofs in the UK.

Hurricane Gold is set to be released on 6 September 2007 in the UK.

Young Bond 4 – Hurricane Gold

Puffin and Ian Fleming Publications announce that Hurricane Gold is the title of the new book in Charlie Higson’s bestselling Young Bond series, to be published on 6th September 2007.

For the first time in the history of the series, Hurricane Gold will be published in hardback, priced £12.99. The eagerly awaited next instalment will be a special treat for Young Bond fans. In keeping with the theme of the title, it will have a gold cover with luxury debossed lettering and gilt-edged pages.

Hurricane Gold the fourth adventure in a planned series of five, is set in Mexico and on an island off the Mexican coast. A safe haven for criminals, the only way off the island is through the deadly Avenida de la Muerte. It is on this island that James finds himself trapped, among some of the world’s most evil criminals.

The Young Bond books have to date sold over half a million copies combined. The series was launched with SilverFin in March 2005 and was followed by Blood Fever in January 2006 and Double Or Die, published in January this year.

  4. 'Double Or Die' Nominated For Southern Schools Book Award

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-07-06

The Young Bond Dossier reports that Double Or Die, Charlie Higson’s third Young James Bond novel, has been nominated for the 2007 Southern Schools Book Award.

The aims of the award include alerting young people to ‘books well worth reading’ and creating a mechanism for lively book discussions.

Librarians, teachers and students select the short-list from the publisher’s nominations. The criteria for these nominations are that the books must have been published for the first time in paperback between 1 April and 31 March just prior to the award year by an author resident in the UK. Students begin reading, reviewing and debating in September with voting in December.

For further information on the award, visit the official website.
