  1. Bond and Frost Sport Cashmere

    By daniel on 2002-10-20

Only a handful of pictures of James Bond in his turtleneck sweater have actually hit the Internet and yet the article of clothing has made quite an impression on fans. So much so, that there is now a market for the item.

The sweater was created specifically for actor Pierce Brosnan by Ballantyne Cashmere. The charcoal grey turtleneck, which features in scenes in Gustav Graves’ Ice Palace, will be available at selected stockists in the United Kingdom and specifically in Ballantyne’s London store on Bond Street.

Ballantyne Cashmere have also provided further clothing for Die Another Day, including a frost grey boucle cashmere polo which will be seen on Miranda Frost, played by British actress Rosamund Pike. The polo is from Ballantyne’s 2002/2003 Autumn Winter Collection.

  2. New Dr. No Diorama Available

    By daniel on 2002-10-20

SpyGuise have just announced the release of the ‘Spy Guise/Corgi Special Edition Dr. No Diorama’, an item exclusive to SpyGuise.

The diorama is a replication of Dr No’s underground lair and features the figurines of Dr No, Honey Rider and, of course, James Bond. Each of the figurines are handpainted.

The diorama box art was designed by artist Jeff Marshall and each box is individually numbered, with the whole production being limited to 600 dioramas.

With the celebration of Dr No in mind, the item should prove to be popular amongst fans.

  4. CBn: NightFire Site Launched

    By David Winter on 2002-10-19

Only a month till NightFire is released! To any normal person, it may not seem a long time, but to anyone waking up each morning longing to get their hands on it, it’s an eternity.

Today, CBn launches it’s mini site dedicated to NightFire. The first dedicated web site devoted to the game. At the moment, it is mini, but I can guarentee, the word “mini” won’t be quite accurate when fans of the game start making maps, skins, character models etc etc.

  5. South African Actor Mark Dymond To Play Van Beert

    By Tim Roth on 2002-10-18

gesThanks to our friends from Bondklub Deutschland CBn can bring you some hot news! The German James Bond Club can reveal 2 new additions to the “Die Another Day” Cast list. South African actor Mark Dymond was signed up to play Dutch Character Van Beert, and “formerly Bond Girl Tymarah” is going to play mysterious Scorpion Girl. As the following information regarding their roles are massive spoiler, you’ll have to highlight them to read!

    Spoiler (Highlight To Read)

Actually Mark Dymond’s Character is a bad guy called “Van Beert”, according to the actor. He plays a small part in the pre-title sequence of “Die Another Day”. According to BKD he’s a smuggler who smuggles diamonds from African conflict areas to North Korea. There, he sells loads of diamonds to Colonel Tan-Gun Moon, who wants to take over South Korea violently. Bond and some “friends” enter North Korea by surfboard and kill Van Beert while Van Beert is entering his Russian Helicopter. Bond takes over the identity of Van Beert and encounters Colonel Moon.

Remember, Commanderbond.net reported a meeting between Moon and undercover going Bond back in February!

    Mark Dymond

CBn can also bring you an extract from a newspaper article from Australian Newspaper Dispatch from August 10th, where Mark Dymond talked about his role. Again, you’ll have to highlight the text to read it!

    Spoiler (Highlight To Read)

“Coming up next is an appearance in the new Bond Movie Die Another Day, which prompts mixed reactions from Dymond.

Playing the part of South African baddie Van Beert (at last they get a South African to play a South African baddie), Dymond says that when Bond infiltrates the bad guys he knocks out Van Beert and then pretends to be him “so I get the honour of saying James Bond plays me”.

In the film the baddies do a lot of helicopter flying and Dymond, who confesses to being “not the greatest flyer” said he’d be shaking like a leaf when they landed and he’d have to try to look cool.”

Bondklub Deutschland can even reveal more casting news. Neither Anna Edwards nor Rachel Grant is going to play Scorpion Girl, but “Ex-Bond-Girl Tymarah”. Furtheron, Scorpion Girl will be a Korean Character.

Michael G. Wilson’s traditional cameo will be that of American General Chandler in the movie. I think it’s the first time ever Michael G. Wilson’s Character got a name!

Anyway, feel free to discuss the topic in this thread of CBn’s Die Another Day Forums! And thanks to ‘Clopin’ for alerting us!

  6. Arcade Game Shame

    By Luke Freeman on 2002-10-18

Okay, it’s true. I’m one of those people who can’t walk past an arcade game machine without popping in a few coins and playing it. When I hear the all too familiar sounds of beeps and buzzes, I lose control, I become a completely different person. Moving the joystick wildly, slamming my fingers on the buttons in desperation, I take it more seriously than most. Why? It’s because I’m obsessed with getting the initials LSF on the top of the high scores screen for future game players to admire and worship. It’s been said that getting ones name entrenched on the high scores table is the nearest one can get to immortality, because those initials you type in stay there forever, well, at least until your score is pushed down off the list or the memory chip is cleared.

My inability to resist arcade games extends to even long outdated titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, franchises that anyone else would be embarrassed beyond belief to be seen within ten feet of. Come on folks, they used to be cool, and all things come back in style eventually. And to the Ninja Turtles credit, they were big enough to have their own arcade game, and when you get your own arcade game, you know you’ve made it big. Now the question that has to be asked, is where is Bonds arcade game? I haven’t seen one anywhere, and believe me; I’ve looked (purely for research, I assure you). I’ve heard stories of an Octopussy game back in the mid-eighties that barely made it to the market, but that seems to be little more than an urban legend. I know that we have Bond video games, like Agent Under Fire and so forth, but it’s not the same as riding your bike down to the milk bar or video store to play an arcade game. There are no Bond arcade games, and I have to say, someone really dropped the ball here. Yes, I aware that MGM possess remarkable ball dropping abilities, but really, what excuse could there possibly be for kids being denied the chance to waste their pocket money on a 007 game? It’s a sad state of affairs when Bond can’t even get his own arcade game.

Now, in the tradition of imitating what’s successful and cashing in on someone else’s hard work, 007 related arcade games starring all your favorite characters could be made simply from modifying existing arcade titles. This would introduce fans of the old games to Bond, and fans of Bond to the old arcade hits, everyone wins. If MGM return my calls and this plan goes ahead, here are a few of the conversions that you can expect…

Pac-Man becomes Kauff-Man: If you haven’t heard of the arcade classic “Pac-Man”, then chances are you’ve been living under a rock since 1981. That would be darn shame because this ultra cool maze adventure where the hunter becomes the hunted is more than just a game, it’s a way of life. And now, with a slight tweak of the graphics and whatnot, Bond can enjoy the same success as we turn the game into “Kauff-Man”. With Dr Kauffman of Tomorrow Never Dies fame in the starring role, this hipper than hip game would have him dodging those menacing cell phones as he chomps his way to glory. But it’s not just for the fellows, the feminine version, “Ms. Kauff-Man” would fly the flag for the ladies.

Mario Bros. becomes Mishka Bros.: I pity those whose childhood didn’t involve playing the video games featuring those tubby, pasta munching plumbers, Mario and Luigi. If you missed out on helping the Mario Bros save the princess over and over again, then you truly missed out on something special. But that’s okay, because the original smash hit is making comeback, but instead of fat, sluggish plumbers, we have fit, agile knife throwers in Mishka and Griska from Octopussy, the Mishka Bros. Yes, slice and dice your way through an army of clowns as you make your way to the final encounter with 007, on top of a moving train. The two-player option ensures twice as much fun.

Ghosts n Goblins becomes Ghosts n Galore: You know, alot of people write in to me to say “Freemo, when is there going to be an arcade game starring Pussy Galore?”, they’re hanging out for a Pussy Galore game, and I wholeheartedly agree with them. One of the best characters in the series, Miss Galore surely deserves the right to make a name for herself. But there are enough games starring pilots, she’ll need a change in career, at least early one, to show that she is versatile. A job as a ghost buster could be just the thing for Pussy, sure, it would be pretty tough, not exactly a romp in the hay, but I think she’s up to the challenge.

Moon Patrol becomes Moonraker Patrol: An obvious one perhaps, but a game that’s just dying to be made. I don’t think anyone actually knew what the plot to “Moon Patrol” was, you just drove your little moon buggy along, jumping over holes and speed humps, and shooting down flying saucers, may they be enemies or friends. For the Bond version, we’d have to add a bit of storyline, the fans demand it. Perhaps we could make the moon buggy the one from Diamonds Are Forever, and maybe have Jaws driving the buggy, trying franticly to get home to his wife Dolly, who’ll be mad if Jaws isn’t back in time for dinner.*

1942 becomes 1959: “1942” had the player as a pilot during the Second World War, “1959” would have you on an equally as important and dangerous adventure. Your mission? To fly from Jamaica to England carrying Ian Flemings manuscript of Thunderball to the publishers. It’s precious cargo, and if you fail to get to your destination, one of the best James Bond novels and thus one of the great James Bond films will never be made. A game of high tension and even higher stakes, as you go face to face against Kevin McClory’s fighter planes, the game also serves as a great history lesson for the kiddies^. Who says learning can’t be fun? You’ll be pumping quarters into this roller coaster ride of a game for weeks.

    Until next time,

    Freemo

  7. Revlon TV Spot Online

    By daniel on 2002-10-18

AdAge has updated with an article on Revlon’s Die Another Day tie-in. Included in the article is a copy of Revlon’s first TV Spot for their ‘007 Color Collection’.

The TV Spot, which is obviously Bond themed, features Halle Berry, the face of Revlon, and also some footage of her character Jinx in action in Die Another Day.

Meanwhile, Revlon have also updated their James Bond site with photos of past Bond girls who have inspired the ‘007 look’ and a James Bond girl game.

If you’d like to discuss the TV Spot please visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. Thanks to Jeff007 and MBE for the news tip off.

  8. Traditional International Poster Promised

    By daniel on 2002-10-17

LatinoReview have revealed that Fox International will be releasing an International poster for Die Another Day, more in the style of traditional James Bond posters. While there is no confirmation as yet, the poster is likely to be similair to the ‘white’ poster which was released on to the internet for a brief amount of time recently.

It has also been revealed by the US One Sheet was simply a version of the Teaser B poster with added credits, “They [MGM] were going to do a different poster but it didn’t make the cut and they [MGM] decided to keep the teaser campaign.” It would be interesting to see the poster that didn’t quite make the cut. Hopefully, the concept poster work will end up on the official site in a news flash as a bit of additional promotion.

If you’d like to discuss the US One Sheet please visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. Thanks to John007 for the news.

  9. Brosnan and Tamahori Fought On Set

    By daniel on 2002-10-17

While Pierce Brosnan and Lee Tamahori praise each other and the Bond franchise in the November issue of Premiere Magazine, theirs was not a fast friendship on the set of Die Another Day.  Both report that trust issues, specifically Brosnan’s lack of trust in Tamahori, reached a boiling point three weeks into the filming, leading to a showdown between the actor and the director.

In an interview Brosnan reveals he wasn’t initially happy with Tamahori’s style of directing, which eventually led to the showdown. Tamahori does reveal he has a fast sense of direction which accounts for fewer scene re-takes. Despite the on set show down Tamahori promised Brosnan that they were both working towards the same goal, and he wouldn’t be let down.

Evidently, the film maker kept his promise, although that did not stop Brosnan from discussing other directors such as Ang Lee and John McTiernan whom he would like to see direct the next Bond adventure.

The November issue of Premiere is a must have not only for the fascinating behind the scenes interview, and a well thought out review of the past nineteen films, but for several pages of DAD tie in advertisements that appear in and around the articles.

  10. Sight & Sound Interview Lee Tamahori

    By daniel on 2002-10-17

UK based movie magazine Sight And Sound have released a special Bond issue this month, with Bond featured on the magazines cover.

Inside Bond fans will find an interview with Lee Tamahori and ‘an editorial comment on Bond in general’. The interview with Tamahori doesn’t deal with the films plot indepth, rather the director talks about how he approached filming Die Another Day and also his relationship with the cast and crew.

Tamahori did reveal that he felt that the producers weren’t keen to return to the format of the earlier Bond films where a director would do several in a row. Seemingly, Tamahori feels he won’t be back for Bond 21.

If you’d like to discuss this news please do so in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. Thanks to Brad Tirpitz for the news alert.
