    Official ‘Casino Royale’ Teaser Poster

The official Casino Royale website blog has been updated by ‘Yarborough.’ Coverage this time centers on Casino Royale‘s Aston Martin DBS.

Speaking about the new Aston, Daniel Craig said: ‘This is very special because it’s the new DBS which is somewhere between a DB9 and their new racing car which they’re going to race hopefully at Le Mans. So, technically, that means that it just goes very fast and it’s a beautiful car and it suits Bond perfectly.’

It was hard to miss the Aston doing a few rolls in the trailer for the newest Bond film. Stunt driver Adam Kirley said of the sequence: ‘Gary Powell decided to raise the ramp to just under two feet in the end. I came in at the 75, 80 miles an hour speed, hit it with the two left hand side wheels, anticipating it to roll very easily. But the car just literally took off in the air, levelled pretty much, and landed on all four wheels. Completely. No chance of rolling whatsoever because of the stability of the car.’

Eventually they decided upon a cannon. ‘The special effects guys had put a cannon in which sits just behind the driver’s seat. It has a cylinder that, as you press a button, releases a load of air which punches the cylinder into the road which then, in turn, turns the car over. And that’s how we ended up doing it in the end,’ says Kirley.

  2. Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson, & Barbara Broccoli Interviewed

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-08

The Sunday Times has a new article out today on Casino Royale, featuring interviews with Daniel Craig and producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

‘We were filming and they discovered two guys buried up to their necks in the sand with cameras. They had been there all night,’ says new James Bond Daniel Craig, in regards to Casino Royale filming in the Bahamas.

‘Believe me, I would love to answer this shit,’ says Craig while discussing the some of the harsh and cruel media reports during the filming process. ‘I do read reviews. I have been on the websites. I had to. There is too much temptation. You write your e-mails and then you think, let’s have a little look… I had a very dark two or three days. I was very despondent. But I realised I was peeing into the wind. I vowed to work twice as hard and get it right. I only know how to do my job one way. I don’t think that you can please all the people all the time. If I was doing my patter I would say, “Don’t worry, there is enough in here to entertain every Bond fan.”‘

In addition to meeting with Craig, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were also interviewed and questioned about the new film. ‘We are preserving the whole history, the legacy,’ says Broccoli. ‘We are completely controlling and interfering! Everybody hates us, we are complete nightmares! Our dad used to say, “Don’t let someone screw it up. It’s okay if you do that, but not someone else.”‘

Wilson emphasized the new tone of the film, a striking distance from Brosnan’s fourth entry, Die Another Day: ‘We wanted to change the style from fantasy to something a bit more gritty. We are still entertainment… We are trying to make it a PG film.’

‘We talk about the level of violence all the time,’ says Broccoli. ‘You do see the consequences of the violence all the time. In the last couple of films you would not necessarily see blood. You do in this film. We think that is a responsible approach.’

And the question that pops up in nearly every Casino Royale interview: Why Craig? ‘I saw Daniel in Our Friends in the North. I saw him in Elizabeth, just walking down the hallway. I thought, “My God.” He does have extraordinary presence. Just look at the body of work. He can be a character actor but he can also be a leading man. And a star. It’s a pretty unique thing. He seemed the obvious choice. And he has surpassed our expectations.’

  4. 'The James Bond Songbook' Coming In October

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-07

While there has been mention of a few James Bond CD collections being rereleased to cash in on the Casino Royale hype, there is one brand new release coming at the end of the month.

‘The James Bond Songbook’ is a collection of several themes from the James Bond films, but with a jazz twist. The official details state:

A hip and groovy jazz take on the world of James Bond from 1965 – the height of the original Bond mania.

This rare album is seeing its first ever reissue and is taken from the original mastertapes. It is the latest in BGP’s Sound Library series, which is now onto its 3rd volume of filmic instrumental grooves.

The original album used legendary jazz and session bassist Jimmy Bond and contracted his name to James. Bond was a mainstay of the LA scene, playing with jazzers such as Charlie Parker and Elmo Hope, and with Phil Spector, Randy Newman and Frank Zappa (on his Lumpy Gravy project) amongst others.

The group on this CD includes some of the finest jazz talent on the West Coast, including a brilliant horn and reed line-up of Harold Land on tenor, Buddy Collette on flute and tenor and Bobby Bryant on trumpet.

Blabbermouth reports that Chris Cornell will be performing the music video for ‘You Know My Name’–the title song for Casino Royale–on 10-11 October in Los Angeles. Details are currently sketchy as to what exactly will be featured in it.

In the meantime, Cornell has spoken about joining an impressive list of previous performers of James Bond theme songs: ‘Paul McCartney’s in there, Tom Jones is in there, which I’m–people might not know this, but I’m a huge Tom Jones fan. I think he’s amazing singer. I had never heard his version of ‘Thunderball’ until recently. I’m sure I did when I was a kid, but it was 1965 so I was one. But it’s great, you know, it’s great being part of something like that, historically.’
