  1. 'Quantum of Solace' Misses Out On BAFTA Awards

    James Bond wasn’t able to conquer the BAFTA Awards this year as Quantum of Solace came away empty-handed after being nominated in two categories.

    The 22nd Bond film was up for awards in the Special Visual Effects and Sound categories, but lost to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire, respectively.

    2006’s Casino Royale won the latter award when it was nominated two years ago.

    Daniel Craig made an appearance at the event along with girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell. Craig handed out the Best Actress award, which went to Kate Winslet for her role in The Reader. Craig briefly spoke about the show to the BBC News (click here to listen).

  2. Daniel Craig To Present At BAFTA Ceremony

    Daniel Craig is scheduled to present an award at the upcoming BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards ceremony, which takes place tomorrow at London’s Royal Opera House.

    This is Croydon Today reports that the James Bond star will join other stars such as Emma Watson, Michael Sheen, Sharon Stone and Patrick Stewart in handing out awards at the red carpet event.

    Craig’s second 007 film, Quantum of Solace is up for BAFTA awards in two categories: Special Visual Effects and Sound.

    The show will be hosted by Jonathan Ross and will be broadcast on BBC Two from 8pm before switching to BBC One for the final hour at 9pm.

  4. 'Quantum' International Total Closes In On $400 Million

    James Bond is closing in on the $400 million mark internationally.

    According to Screen Daily, Quantum of Solace grossed $2.7 million over the weekend from 455 screens in 21 markets, bringing its international (non-US) total to $398 million.

    The biggest contribution came from Japan, where the 22nd 007 film took in $2.6 million from 346 screens in its second weekend. Quantum‘s cumulative total there stands at $12.7 million.

    Counting this latest international addition, the worldwide box office total for Quantum of Solace is expected to be around the $566-67 mark.

  5. Daniel Craig Lines Up Latest Project: Steven Spielberg's 'Tintin'

    With the theatrical releases of Quantum of Solace and Defiance behind him now, Daniel Craig has lined up his next major film: Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.

    Studios Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the main cast for the 3D motion capture feature in a press release today. Craig stars as the villainous pirate Red Rackham opposite Jamie Bell, who has the lead role as the adventurous reporter.

    Due for release in 2011, Tintin will mark the second collaboration between the James Bond star and Spieberg. The two previously worked together on 2005’s Munich. Furthermore, Craig and Bell recently co-starred as brothers in Defiance, which is currently in theatres around the world.

    Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced the start of principal production in Los Angeles on the 3D Motion Capture Film The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Defiance) as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace, Defiance) as the nefarious Red Rackham.

    Bell and Craig are joined by an international cast that includes Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.

    The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, from a screenplay by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, is produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy, is the first in the series of 3D motion capture films based on the iconic character created by Georges Remi, better known to the world by his pen name “Herge” and is due for release in 2011. Executive producers are Nick Rodwell, Stephane Sperry and Ken Kamins. Paramount Pictures will release domestically and in all English speaking territories and Asia, excluding India. Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute the film in Continental Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, India and the remainder of the world.

    The second feature in the series is scheduled to be directed by Jackson, with a potential for a third film as well.

    Eighty years ago, Herge introduced the world to a unique cast of characters who have been embraced by readers of all ages. The Adventures of Tintin – a series of 24 books, the final unfinished adventure was published after Herge’s – death became Herge’s life’s work. The first adventure was published in 1929. Over 200 million copies have been sold worldwide. The popular series has been translated into 70 languages and still attracts thousands of new fans each year.

    Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson will bring Herge’s stories to life employing state-of-the-art performance capture technology developed by Jackson’s Weta Digital.

  6. 'Quantum of Solace' Pre-order Exclusive At HMV

    As was the case with Casino Royale two years ago, the pre-order exclusives for Quantum of Solace on Blu-ray and DVD are coming in.

    HMV has slashed the prices on the 2-disc Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray disc of the 22nd James Bond film down to £12.99 and £17.99, respectively.

    Furthermore, the retailer is offering 007 fans who pre-order an exclusive limited edition copy of Bond On Set: Filming Quantum of Solace by photographer Greg Williams.

  7. 'Quantum of Solace' Has Record Bond Box Office Debut In Japan

    Even with an almost three-month wait, the James Bond buzz in Japan was at an all time high this weekend.

    Quantum of Solace finally debuted in theaters there this past Friday–the final territory for the 22nd 007 film–and set yet another box office record for the series.

    According to Variety, Quantum pulled in $6.5 million over the weekend, soaring past the previous opening record of $3.2 million held by 2006’s Casino Royale.

    This strong opening pushed the international (non-US) total for the Bond film up to $391.2 million.

    Following its release in late 2006, Casino Royale went on to gross a cumulative $18.9 million in Japan.

  8. Limited Edition 'Quantum of Solace' Cell Phone

    Just as Quantum of Solace finally arrives in theatres in Japan, one of the country’s top telecommunications companies has launched a limited edition James Bond cell phone.

    Mobile Magazine reports that KDDi au released a special 007-themed edition of their W63S cell phone, sporting a handset designed by Sony Ericsson this past Wednesday to tie-in with the release of the 22nd Bond film.

    Retail price is set around $145 and this Quantum of Solace model is limited to only 3,000 units worldwide.

    This winter, James Bond will be featured in the fourth installment of the popular “Dinner & A Movie” series at the Hampshire House on Beacon Hill in Boston, Massachusetts.

    Sean Connery’s second 007 entry, 1963’s From Russia with Love will be screened on Friday, 30 January 2009.

    Dinner for this event begins at 7:00pm. Admission is $30.00 per guest, and includes the film and three-course meal. Availability is limited.

    After months and months of waiting, this Friday, 23 January, will see the return of James Bond to Japan.

    Quantum of Solace will arrive in theatres in the country, having opened in most other worldwide markets in November 2008. It is the final opening for the 22nd 007 film.

    The Tokyo premiere for Quantum of Solace took place on 24 November 2008 at the city’s Toho Cinemas. Actors Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko along with director Marc Forster were present at the red carpet event (click here for photographs).

    In terms of box office news, Screen Daily reports that early preview screenings of the Bond film have already pulled in $3 million. Craig’s debut 007 film, Casino Royale grossed a cumulative $18.9 million in the country back in late 2006 following a $3.2 million opening weekend.
