  1. JamesBond.com Update: Cannes Film Festival

    By David Winter on 2002-06-01

JamesBond.com has updated with some new video footage from the Cannes Film Festival, at the moment, it's only available in Windows Media format, however, a Quicktime version is "coming soon".

Aswell as the new video footage, an article on the film festival is at the site here.

Thanks to PaulZ108 for the tip off. Be sure to discuss this in this topic in the Die Another Day forums.

  2. Pierce Brosnan Sheds Light On Villains And Bond

    By daniel on 2002-06-01

'Romolo' has just posted news in the Die Another Day Forums of an interview with Pierce Brosnan that has recently appeared in 'Total Film' magazine. In the interview Pierce reveals some interesting information on two villains from the film; Zao and Gustav Graves.

Some of the information may be treated as some as a plot spoiler, so you'll have to highlight the news to read it.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

Romolo has posted some of the more interesting quotes that Pierce made.

To begin with Pierce mentions that Zao “goes to Cuba for a makeover – gene therapy, in fact.” The news doesn’t come as a complete surprise as we’ve heard countless rumours about Zao’s Cuban visit and we’ve also seen a gimplse of the gene therapy in the teaser trailer. However, it’s interesting to consider that Pierce refers to the operation as “gene therapy” as opposed to a facial transformation, which is a rumour that has existed since news leaked out of Korea last November.

Pierce also makes a mention of the films villain Gustav Graves saying that Graves “wants to take over the world. He’s this entrepreneurial fellow who owns a satellite which is basically another sun in the sky…it’s a world domination thing.” What Pierce is referring to is the Icarus satellite which Graves will control. Of course the name finds its roots in Greek mythology, Icarus having flown to close to sun died, hence Graves has a solar powered weapon. The Icarus Satellite will be the weapon that destroys the Ice Palace.

    Pierce has also made a comment on his character of James Bond in Die Another Day. Again, some people may regard this as a spoiler so you'll have to highlight to read;

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

Pierce has revealed that in Die Another Day Bond is “the outside man. He’s the one who’s been betrayed, and who’s trying to get back in. Everything’s taken away, so he becomes a renegade.” While we’re not quite sure how Bond has been betrayed, footage from 60 Minutes has shown Bond saying to M “You burned me”, so no doubt Bond being an outsider is related to this.

No doubt some fans will note the reference to Bond being a “renegade” much like he was in License To Kill, a notion that may ‘disturb’ some fans. Personally I’m sure that the producers would never return to the time of License To Kill. They’re learnt their lesson and the past Brosnan films have shown that they’re moving on.

If you'd like to discuss this news please visit this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. See you there!

And finally, a big thanks to Romolo for sending this news in to us!

  3. 2002 World Stunt Awards Shows New Footage

    By daniel on 2002-06-01

Jim has just written in with some great details on new footage of Die Another Day which was just shown on the 2002 World Stunt Awards on the ABC. A special part of the ceremony was dedicated to 40 years of James Bond and it was hosted by John Cleese. Cleese gave a thank you speech to all of the various stuntmen and women who had worked on the previous 19 films. As a part of the speech 'pauses' of the Bond films were shown where the actors doubles could be clearly seen.

However, that wasn't where the fun stopped. A preview for Die Another Day was then shown and Jim tells us that some footage was shown that didn't appear in the teaser trailer.

The footage does include spoilers, so you'll have to highlight to read.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

    Jim sent in this report of the footage;

One shot showed Bond in a hallway swinging his gun around to aim at an unknown target very slowly in a sort of Matrix fasion.

There was also footage of Q’s Lab! in it Bond was talking to Q and turned on a jetpack (sort of fidleing around with things he shouldn’t be touching in typical Bond fasion – also a symbol of recognition to Bond’s past as Sean Connery had used a jetpack Thunderball). The jetpack looked like a much newer version of the Thunderball one and luckily nothing like the one in the Agent Under Fire video game.

There was also footage of Bond and various other people running out of a white and green building and then the top floor of it explodes (possibly part of the Cuba sequences?) and a shot of someone shoving a Klashnikov-57 rifle into Colonel Moon’s face.

There was also a longer shot of the sequence in which Jinx is in an office working on a computer and sees the transition of Zao’s face change. There were also various shots that were seen in the teaser trailer.

There's some great footage in there! Hopefully it will end up online sometime soon.

If you'd like to discuss the new footage please do so in this thread of the Die Another Day Forums. See you there!

Finally, a big thanks to Jim for sending in the news and his report!

  4. Exclusive: Photos From Around Pinewood Studios And Set!

    By daniel on 2002-05-31

    An entrance at Pinewood Studio's

'TP007' was at Pinewood Studio's last week, camera in hand, and some great news and pictures giving us a clue about what has been happening at the studio recently. And to start us off for today is the above picture of one of the entrances to Pinewood Studio's.

One of the interesting things that our source noted was the fact that no-where was the film referred to as Die Another Day. Rather, it was always referred to as Bond XX on noticeboards and panels.

Sadly, when 'TP007' visited Pierce Brosnan was out and about so we don't have any stunning photos of the man in action. However, his car spot did stay behind at Pinewood Studio's. So ladies, this is where Piece parks. Notice it's the car spot closest to the entrance?

Pierce Brosnan's Car Space at Pinewood Studio's

Out and about this is the famous 007 Stage from a distance.

    The 007 Stage

While not on a stage this photograph is sure to make more than a few Bond fans happy.

A Bio-dome On The Pinewood Backlot

The above photo is of a completed lower-segment of one of the bio-domes owned by villain Gustav Graves. While the whole of the bio-dome hasn't been constructed, something which would be a huge feat, the upper parts till be digitally inserted during post-production. This segment has been constructed for purposes of up-close filming.

You'll note the excellent iced-over effects. While it is cold in the UK at the moment, it's not that cold. The bio-domes, afterall, be seen in Iceland in the film. They'll be near Graves' Ice Palace, something we'll have more on later.

A Backdrop On The 007 Stage

The above image is of a backdrop, obviously having an Iceland background, on The 007 Stage. Unfortunately, due to extremely tight security 'TP007' wasn't able to get onto the actual set to get photos of the foreground. One possibility indicates that filming may have involved several snow skidoos, as there were quite a some being moved about the sets.

    Aircraft Nose Section

The above image shows the nose of an aircraft to be used for filming. You'll note that it is on wheels and most likely a mock up version of the cockpit for close up filming. The aircraft is presumably an Antanov and will feature towards Die Another Day's climax. Furthermore, 'TP007' tells us that a model of the Antanov, we're told only the backend, is being constructed outside on the back-lot.

Outside of a Set on D-Stage

The above photo shows the outside of a set on D Stage. 'TP007' tells us that the set seemed to be of the Blades Club set where we've been told we'll see both Bond and Miranda Frost in action.

The following image is of the same set from a different angle. Note that backdrop featuring buildings. It will be interesting to note how realistic these buildings will seem in the finished product of the film.

Outside of a Set on D-Stage

The following image is of an ice wall being contructed on the Pinewood backlot. The use of this setpiece is as yet unknown, however, it does have overtones of Bruce Feirstein's unused opening for Tomorrow Never Dies where James Bond 'rock'-climbs up a glacial wall.

    An Ice Wall

The next image is of the screen of the Pinewood Water Tank. The Water Tank has recently been used to film shots of Halle Berry's body-double diving into the water. CommanderBond.Net featured exclusive pictures of this, and more, filming recently.

The Backdrop of the Pinewood Water Tank

Interestingly enough 'TP007' tells us that in the direct vicinity of the Water Tank was the Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read) remains of a set that appeared to be a “Korean temple-type building”.

Finally, we have a picture of the outside of the Ice Palace.

An External View Of The Ice Palace

A huge thank you goes out to TP007 for providing these images to CommanderBond.Net and Bond fans. If you'd like to discuss the images, or any of the content of the report, please visit this thread in the Die Another Day Forums. See you there!

    Update:
'M' has written in to correct me on something. I incorrectly referred to one of the sets as the Hong Kong set, it's actually the Blades Club set. I've made the correction above. Thanks to M for letting me know.

  6. The Role Of Miss Moneypenny

    By David Winter on 2002-05-30

Our source; "Ted-E-Bear", has just checked it with some infomation regarding the role of Miss Moneypenny in "Die Another Day". He tells us that actress, Samantha Bond is happy with her role in the movie, and also adds that she plans on stepping down from the role when Pierce Brosnan hangs up his tux, and steps down from his role as 007.

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

GMTV have reported that a stunt on the set of Die Another Day has resulted in a crashed Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.

Film was reportedly occuring for a car chase scene, sources have told CommanderBond.Net that the chase was taking place in the Ice Palace. Luckily, the stuntman was not injured during the accident.

Furthermore, the filmed crash was reportedly so impressive on camera that it will appear in the final cut of the film.

  10. Yet another reference…

    By David Winter on 2002-05-28

As Christoph from 007 Web tolds us, a German economy magazine uncovered another reference in Die Another Day.

    The newspaper reports,

    Spoiler Warning (Highlight To Read)

…The scene shows four robots cutting diamonds with laser beams. A fifth, standing robot with a weight of 150 – 200 kilograms moves the table the diamonds are put on.
The movies villian now ties the traditionally well-shaped Bondgirl on that table. The robots shall cut her in pieces with the lasers.
    .

Well, that seems interesting. We’ve already heard that there will be diamonds and robots in Die Another Day, but we haven’t heard of such an reference yet.

It’s probably a reference to the most famous James Bond Scene ever, taken from Goldfinger. And remember the words of our official set insider ‘Yarborough’, who said that James Bond has to rescue Jinx from the Ice Palace. All this could be connected.

Be sure to add your opinion to this thread in the Die Another Day Forums.

And finally a big 'Thank you' to Christoph!
