  1. Aishwarya Rai Rumours Start Again

    By Tim Roth on 2004-01-05

In April 2003 CommanderBond.net reported the first time that Indian actress Ashwarya Rai was going to play a Bond girl in Bond 21. The rumours were denied by both EON and Ashwarya Rai’s agent some weeks later.

In today’s "Times of India" and several other Indian news sources the rumour mill is opened again:

Aishwarya Rai has agreed to appear in the next James Bond film if its producers agree to use a body double for the sex scenes with Pierce Brosnan, who plays secret agent 007.

Rai was asked to play Brosnan’s romantic interest in the still untitled film, the 21st in the Bond series, but she has insisted she will take the role only if a look-alike is drafted in for the inevitable sex scenes.

She told the British press that her strict upbringing meant there was no question of her doing anything saucy.

"I’ve said I will do the film if there is a body double. The producers have said they will have to ask Pierce," she said.

She said the Bond offer came after she bumped into Brosnan at a party.

"He walked over to me and said he had seen me on the cover of Time magazine," she said.

"I could hardly say anything at first but then my friend started talking and told Pierce how much he loved his trademark intro, ‘The name’s Bond, James Bond’.

"Pierce kept looking at me and the next thing was the casting agent for the film got in touch and asked if I would like to be a Bond girl."

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is said to be keen to cast a Bollywood actress to increase Bond’s appeal in Asia.

Reports said two other Indian actresses Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta had been approached to appear in the film should Rai’s demand rule her out.

The British media has been speculating about Rai playing a role in the next Bond outing since early last year.

These rumours seem very likely to be untrue, as the "Pierce Brosnan stumbled into me" story has been used by several wannabe Bond girls in the past. We shouldn’t also forget the denial of EON Productions last year.

However, feel free to discuss the story in this thread in CBn’s Bond 21 forums!

  2. Sugababes Tipped For Bond 21

By The CBn Team on 2003-12-20

UK music chart show, ‘CD:UK‘ this morning revealed that British Girl Group, ‘SUGABABES‘ have been approached to produce the theme tune for Bond 21.

Although the news comes from a reputable source, the idea of a group being approached almost 2 years before the potential track will be released it seems fair to assume this should be taken with a pinch of salt, however not ruled out.

  3. A New Owner For James Bond?

    By Tim Roth on 2003-12-19

Hollywood observers are tracking reported early merger talks between Warner Bros Pictures owner Time Warner and MGM. A source told the Reuters news agency talks were "at very early stages".

A resulting deal would combine the world’s largest media company and its film production and worldwide distribution divisions with MGM’s enviable film library.

Various factors militate against the likelihood of a merger, not least Time Warner’s need to cut its debt rather than increase it to finance a major new acquisition.

Early last year MGM put itself up for sale for $7bn but later withdrew the offer when the asking price was considered too high.

The Hollywood rumour mill has long speculated about a take-over at MGM, which is the lowest grossing major studio in Tinseltown. Its jewels in the crown are the library of more than 4,000 films and the highly profitable James Bond franchise.

  6. Publicity Falsely Declares Reality TV Winner Female Villain

    By daniel on 2003-11-17

There’s nothing like an association with the James Bond series to guarantee you some publicity, even if that association is merely a rumour. Such is the case of Alex Parks, winner of Britain’s ‘reality’ TV Show ‘Fame Academy’.

British tabloid The Sunday Mirror has reported that Parks has been offered “a cameo role as a baddie in the” next James Bond film.

With Bond 21 a year from lensing the news should be considered a simple publicity stunt given that casting for the film would only be in its infancy, if at all, and certainly not focusing on ‘cameo roles’ for reality TV show winners.

Unfortunately, the false news is likely to move through media sources in the UK.

  7. Dr. No Tops in Film Style List

By The CBn Team on 2003-11-16

The Sun in the UK recently compiled a list of the best fashion outfits in films. The Bond film series and in particular, Dr. No, received two mentions in the top ten.

The famous bikini worn by Ursula Andress came in at number two, while Sean Connery’s dinner attire from his introductory scene placed eighth.

  8. Christian Wagner To Edit Bond 21?

    By daniel on 2003-11-16

Editor Christian Wagner, who worked on Die Another Day, is returning for Bond 21 according to the IMDb.

While the IMDb is an unreliable source on films still in production, the timing of Wagner’s hiring is logical. Bond 21 will start lensing in just over a year indicating that the hiring process for the production staff will currently be in progress.

If accurate, the hiring of Wager may indicate that Bond 21 will feature many of the same production staff as Die Another Day – a logical move for both Eon Productions and MGM given the success of the 20th James Bond film.

Wagner, who has worked on films such as Spy Game and Mission Impossible II, caused a rift in the Bond fan community with his ‘Matrix’ style editing, particularly featured during scenes set in Iceland.

To discuss the possible hiring, visit this thread of the Bond 21 Forums. Thanks to Loomis for the tip-off.

  10. Jinx Spin-Off Still In Production?

    By daniel on 2003-11-15

The James Bond spin-off film is still in production, according to USA Today.

In an article on actress Halle Berry, dated November 12, the USA Today has reported that “the [James] Bond spinoff based on her Jinx character is still in development, despite reports that MGM has pulled the plug”. The reliability of such a statement is strengthened by the sources interviewing of Halle Berry, possibly indicating that she herself was the source of the news.

The spin-off film, based upon Halle Berry’s Die Another Day character Jinx, went in to production almost a year ago coinciding with the release of the 20th Bond film in 2002. However, in late October news from media source Variety revealed that MGM had pulled the plug on the project, despite the wishes of Eon Productions.

Berry is currently filming another spin-off film, this time a Catwoman spin-off from the Batman film series.
