  2. Bonding with Golden Girl Shirley Eaton

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-05-27

James Bond fans have a chance to meet with Bond girl Shirley Eaton today, 27 May 2006, for a meet and greet, book signing, showing of Goldfinger, and more.

The Daily News Journal reports that golden girl Shirley Eaton, who starred as the ill-fated Jill Masteron in the 1964 007 film, Goldfinger will be attending the Murfreesboro/Rutherford County Center for the Arts in Tennesse at 6:30 PM, 27 May, to meet with fans, sign copies of her book Golden Touch, An Intimate Diary of Poems and host a reception which will be followed by a showing of Goldfinger.

According to Eaton, ‘I was only in Goldfinger for five minutes maybe 42 years ago, and I still get fan mail. But I needed to be stable more than I needed to be famous. I’m so much more than the shallowness of show business… I fulfill myself. When I look at the photos of myself back then, I feel like ‘Wasn’t she gorgeous?’ But at the time I didn’t think so. I had a stable childhood and a good marriage, and that’s why I stay grounded.’

Admission to tonight’s show is $25, with copies of Golden Touch, An Intimate Diary of Poems available at $20 each. For more information, phone 904-2787.

A new video report on the newest James Bond film, Casino Royale is now online. Two seperate videos from Entertainment Tonight are now online, featuring Daniel Craig.

Speaking on the role to ET’s Mary Hart, Daniel Craig explains ‘My job is not to repeat something that someone else has done. I love Bond, and we all grew up with it, and it’s very precious to me, so I’m trying to look after it–and I’m trying to take it somewhere else so that, with or without me, it lasts another how many years. That’s the deal here.’

Craig goes on to compare this new, official James Bond film to the 1967 unofficial comedy, Casino Royale. He says, ‘The Casino Royale that was made [in ’67] was a comedy,” says the 38-year-old star. “It was based upon the book, but actually had very little to do with the book. It had about 10 directors, I think, and 10 writers and 10 James Bonds, and it’s nothing to do with this. This [the official 2006 film] is Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale. It’s very close to the book.’

The video report ends with brief discussion on the brand new Aston Martin DBS. When asked if he gets his own after filming, Craig answered ‘No… I wish.’ View both Entertainment Tonight Casino Royale video reports here.

  10. Official Casino Royale Website Launches

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2006-05-20

After what has seemed like an age the official Casino Royale website has been finally thrust upon us!

It is rather flashy (quite literally, as you need Macromedia Flash 8 to view it) and as a subdued version of the 007 Theme from Thunderball loops in the background, we are treated to a virtual green baize table, where we can peruse the trailer in full-screen glory, images from the film (including new pictures of Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis), our old friend Yarborough’s blog, wallpapers, a poker game and M’s personal computer, on which Villiers kindly informs us in detail of Bond’s chequered past and “current” status at the Secret Intelligence Service. It looks like the filmmakers really are ensuring that Joe Public knows they are starting from scratch with Bond’s character. However purists take note: NOTHING has fundamentally changed about Bond’s past. It’s just been fleshed out a little. Oh, and there’s a nice little explanation of the origins of the name “Vesper” if you hover over Bond’s martini glass.

Click here to have a gander and tell us what you think in the CBn forum, but as the link to the site increases in length text-wise, I have one question: whatever happened to plain old Jamesbond.com? It seems like we have three Casino Royale sites now all harbouring the same or slightly differing information (here, here and here). Maybe this will change soon.

Anyway, be sure to stay tuned to CBn for all the latest news on Casino Royale and all things Jimmy Bond, won’t you?
