  1. Rittenhouse Casino Royale Details

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-08-09

Details have been released on the upcoming release from Rittenhouse card sets for the newest James Bond 007 film, Casino Royale.

As posted on the SciFiHobby forums, a different approach will be taken in regards to Casino Royale. Steve Charendoff posts that a ‘Mega-Bond’ set is planned. It will include many cards from Daniel Craig’s first Bond film, but also elements from the twenty previous 007 films.

What is also different is that the set is not planned for release around the film’s premiere in November, but rather the DVD release in March 2007. ‘We will inevitably have more autographs, more costume cards, more prop cards, more, more, more, because right now a lot of these elements are simply not available to us,’ says Steve Charendoff. Visit the SciFiHobby forums for all the details.

Stay tuned to CBn for all the latest news on Casino Royale and all things James Bond 007.

  2. Just In From Our Man In Japan:

    By @mrpauldunphy on 2006-08-09

We love to have our fingers in pies worldwide here at CommanderBond.Net, and this little beauty of a flyer from Japan has just arrived courtesy of CBn reader Christopher Domitter. It features the “illuminated eyes” artwork as previously seen at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and clearly shows Craig’s Bond sporting an Omega Seamaster Professional wristwatch. Christopher describes the flyer:

These kinds of flyers are pretty standard, and come out months prior to a release. In addition, during actual release the Japanese still produce beautiful high quality movie brochures, the likes of which I have never seen in my native Canada.

Below left is a scan of the front of the flyer, scanned to actual size (Japanese B5). You can clearly see below Casino Royale in Roman letters is the the title of the film in Japanese (katakana script):

    Test Pic

FRONT: “My, what lovely eyes you have, Mr Bond.”

    Test Pic

BACK: “My, what lovely scars you have, Mr Bond.”

Christopher is a Canadian Bond fan who has lived in Yokohama, Japan for sixteen years and he has kindly provided a summary translation of the reverse of the flyer (below right) for those who haven’t taken a Double First in Oriental Languages at Cambridge:

(Saying that though, apparently neither has Bond)

Top headline: “The story about James Bond before he became 007…” (with supporting text explaining how this is the first time in the series that we will see a “human Bond”, who has a past that nobody has ever known …” etc.

The blue box insert outlines “The 7 conditions to receive 00 status…” which are as follows:

    1. You don’t fear death, and won’t give into torture
    2. You have Olympic level shooting skills
    3. Even if you double-cross your own parents, you will never double-cross the organization
    4. You have knowledge that would surprise even a scholar, and a sense of humour that would make even a bad girl grin
    5. You have the sociability of a lamb, but remain a lone wolf
    6. You have the highest level of experience with alcohol, gambling, cars and food.
    7. You can fall in love but you can never love.

The yellow headlines at the bottom:
    -“What does ’00’ mean?”
-“The actor for Bond has changed!”
-“The intelligence service Bond belongs to actually exists!”
-“John F. Kennedy loved the original novels!”
    -“Bond’s new ultra high-end car!”
-“It’s the age of the woman spy!” (Judi Dench blurb…)

The list at the bottom left beside Daniel’s photo is the names of all the Bond actors.

The official Casino Royale website blog has been updated by ‘Yarborough.’ Instead of coverage on one of the characters or sequences in Casino Royale, this report takes notice of the recent fire at Pinewood Studios.

Previously used in many Bond films such as The Spy Who Loved Me, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, details on the exact cause of the fire are still to be determined says Yarborough.

The 007 stage was most recently used for recreating a Venice set for closing sequences in the film.

  7. 20 Years Ago: Timothy Dalton Is Announced As James Bond 007

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-08-06

It was twenty years ago on 6 August 1986 that Timothy Dalton was announced as the fourth official James Bond 007 actor. The event was later announced at a press conference in Vienna, Austria.

    Timothy Dalton is James Bond

    Timothy Dalton is James Bond

Dalton’s longtime association with the James Bond film series began in the 60’s when he was asked to take on the role after Sean Connery temporarily left after 1967’s You Only Live Twice. However, Dalton turned it down, feeling he was too young for the part (at that time 22 years old). He was also considered in 1971 and 1981.

‘The New James Bond…Living On The Edge.’

    ‘The Living Daylights’ poster tagline

Dalton was again considered as a replacement after the Sir Roger Moore era ended, but he initially turned it down, due to working/schedule complications with the film, Brenda Starr. With Pierce Brosnan pulling out due to NBC’s Remington Steele, Dalton finally took on the role.

His first James Bond film, The Living Daylights, premiered on 29 June 1987; the year also celebrating 25 years of 007 films. With a worldwide box-office of over $191.2 million dollars, The Living Daylights became one of the most successful James Bond films of the 1980s.

    ‘The Most Dangerous Bond. Ever.’

Dalton again returned to the role for a second—and last—time in 1989’s Licence To Kill. Opening on 13 June 1989, the film faced harsh competition (Batman, Lethal Weapon 2, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and more…). The film grossed $156.2 million worldwide.

A third James Bond film featuring Timothy Dalton was set to be released sometime in 1991, but due to legal problems and complications, the film never saw the light of day. Dalton officially resigned from the James Bond 007 role on 12 April 1994.

  10. Chris Cornell On Casino Royale's 'You Know My Name'

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-08-03

Chris Cornell has previously spoken about the Casino Royale main title song, ‘You Know My Name’ to MTV. Further news on this James Bond theme has been revealed, thanks to Billboard.com

Upon being asked for the job, Cornell said: ‘I just got a call, and at first I thought there must be some kind of mistake… Everybody I met with said the same thing — ‘This isn’t anything like any other James Bond film, so we don’t really want that song, either. So go do whatever you want.’

He later said that ‘You Know My Name’ will be quite a change from some of the recent 007 title themes, calling it: ‘more uptempo and a little more aggressive than any other Bond theme has been, maybe since Paul McCartney [Live And Let Die]. It has an orchestra, but it also has some angry sounding guitar, and it’s got feedback.
