  2. US Premiere Of Casino Royale In Baltimore, 15 November

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-01

The Examiner reports that Casino Royale, the 21st official James Bond film, will have its US premiere in Baltimore on Wednesday, 15 November.

Casino Royale will play at the Senator Theatre. Tickets for the screening are $100 and include a champagne reception, auction and gift bags. Tickets can be obtained by calling 410-516-6609 or sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Proceeds go to the Dana and Albert “Cubby” Broccoli Center for Aortic Diseases.

Why Baltimore? Dr. Vincent Gott, director of the Dana and Albert “Cubby” Broccoli Center for Aortic Diseases at Johns Hopkins explains that it was the location where Broccoli, the original producer of the Bond films, arrived at for cataract surgery in 1994. He received a chest X-ray upon admission, where doctors found a ‘large aneurysm of the aorta.’

As a result of this connection between Hopkins and Broccoli, the previous three Bond films–Die Another Day, The World Is Not Enough, and Tomorrow Never Dies–all had their US premieres in Baltimore.

‘Each screening we use as a fundraiser for the center,’ Gott said.

  4. Casino Royale Becomes The Longest James Bond Film

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-01

It was previously revealed on CBn that Casino Royale was set to tie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service for the longest run time in the entire James Bond series.

Now, the BBFC reveals that Daniel Craig’s debut as 007 has indeed broken the record, with a run time of 144 minutes, 7 seconds. This news comes along with the report that the UK cut of the film, specifically the torture sequence, has been edited to secure the 12A rating. The full message:

This film was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version, for advice as to the film’s suitability at ’12A’. The BBFC advised the company that the torture scene placed too much emphasis on both the infliction of pain and the sadism of the villain for the requested ’12A’ category. When the completed version of the film was submitted for classification, reductions to the torture sequence had been made, including the removal of lingering shots of the rope, close shots of Bond’s facial reaction and the substitution of a more distant shot of the beating compared to the original version. This re-edited version of the scene was considered acceptable at ’12A’, where the Guidelines permit violence provided there is no dwelling on detail or emphasis on injuries.

  8. 'Filming In Venice: The Grand Canal' On Official Casino Royale Site

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-01

A new video has appeared online at the official Casino Royale website: ‘Filming in Venice: Part 2: The Grand Canal.’

The video features shots of the canal sequence with Daniel Craig’s James Bond and Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd as well as scenes from an action sequence previously highlighted in the trailers for the film.

‘Venice has its own complications, everything has to go by boat. It’s very hard work for everybody,’ says executive producer Anthony Waye.

Green loved the location, saying: ‘Venice was not really real actually, because so many movies have shot there. It was just mythical, and I felt really like a Bond girl when I was in that boat.’

  9. Daniel Craig Speaks On Bond 22 Plot Revelation

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-11-01

    WARNING: Minor plot spoilers

A brand new video interview with Daniel Craig has appeared online at a Swedish website. Speaking on his role as James Bond and Casino Royale, Craig has also made mention of one possible detail that will affect the plot of 2008’s Bond 22.

Daniel Craig returns in ‘Bond 22’

When asked how political Casino Royale is, Craig says: ‘It’s not too political, but it does have its eye on the world outside… we’re not really sure who the bad guy is.’

‘We have a group of people [in Casino Royale] that are led by Le Chiffre; at least we think they’re led by Le Chiffre. They’re trying to destabilize the world with money, they’re using money as the tool… They don’t care who they kill or who they displace. And we don’t know who the top man is yet. Hopefully we’ll find out who that is in the next Bond movie.’

This re-emphasizes a plot revelation CBn exclusively revealed last year, where it was reported that Mads Mikkelsen’s Le Chiffre will be ‘part of a new SPECTRE-like terror organization backed by a fictitious country. This new terror organization may become a recurring threat in future James Bond films as SPECTRE was in the early films…’

Just two more years to wait to find out exactly who the villain[s] of Bond 22 will be… Click here to view the entire video interview with Daniel Craig.

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-10-31

CBn previously reported that the premiere of Chris Cornell’s music video for ‘You Know My Name,’ Casino Royale‘s main title song was set for 31 October on MTV’s ‘Making the Video.’

As scheduled, the video, which is co-written by composer David Arnold made its premiere today and features several shots of previously unreleased sequences in Casino Royale. The majority of which are naturally centered on Daniel Craig as 007 and the gritty aspects of this new film.

While over three different versions of Cornell’s title song have been released over the past few weeks, the version used for the video does include orchestration.

US James Bond fans can watch the video here on MTV, but for all others, the video has also made its way onto YouTube (details here on the CBn Forums.)
