  8. We Love 'Gold'

    By Matt Weston on 2007-09-08

James Bond’s nemesis, Auric Goldfinger is not the only one to love “gold”, it seems, as the success of the launch party for Charlie Higson’s latest Young Bond adventure, Hurricane Gold has proven.

Charlie Higson with his golden entourage

the penguin blog has published a report from the day’s festivities. Gold-painted actors – reminiscent of Goldfinger‘s Jill Masterson – hit the streets of London with copies of the book in the lead-up to Thursday’s gold-themed launch party at Waterstone’s Piccadilly.

The Young Bond Dossier reports that the event featured gold food, a Young Bond quiz and a book signing by Higson, who was, himself, adorned in a golden suit and tie. The site has also landed a batch of exclusive pics from the day’s events, which are well worth checking out.

The Young Bond Dossier report contains a number of titbits that emerged from the event – notably that SilverFin‘s Wilder Lawless and Double Or Die‘s Babushka may return in the fifth and final book in the series.

The frivolities kicked off the Hurricane Gold hype which has seen the all-gold book catapulted onto the charts, just two days after its official release. It currently sits at #7 on Waterstone’s bestseller chart.
