    Official ‘Casino Royale’ Teaser Poster

As reported yesterday by CBn, the full Casino Royale trailer was released by Sony Pictures today. About half an hour ago, AOL Moviefone was the first online service to publish the official trailer. It can be viewed in a very good high quality version here.

The trailer itself features a lot of scenes and sequences that have been discussed in pain-staking detail to date in the CBn Forum, and is a colourful mix of Bond’s new brutality, a deep romance and love story and the typical Bond elements. For the first time ever, a choral version of the James Bond Theme is used to underline the trailer’s climax.

As a personal note I want to add that this is the best Bond trailer I have seen in several years. So be sure to check it out!

Stay tuned to CBn for all the latest news on Casino Royale.

  2. 'Bond 22': Roger Michell To Direct?

    By Tim Roth on 2006-07-17
    Roger Michell

    Roger Michell

    Following the recent insider
    report
that Martin Campbell won’t return to direct Daniel Craig’s second
    outing as James Bond, today’s

    Hollywood Reporter
says that "U.K.-based helmer Roger Michell is in
negotiations to direct the follow-up to Casino Royale which has a working title
    of Bond 22".

According to the trade paper, Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, who penned the
last three James Bond movies, are not going to return for Bond 22 either.
Instead, suggests the "Hollywood Reporter", "sources say the film is based on an
original idea from Bond producer Michael Wilson." This would be the first
writing involvement of Wilson since 1989’s License To Kill. Together with
Richard Maibaum, Michael Wilson wrote all of the 1980s Bond movies,
starting with For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

The news of Eon Productions looking for a new writer to adapt Wilson’s ideas, is contrary to former statements by
the producers. At the opening press conference for Casino Royale, Wilson was
quoted to have said that “Purvis and Wade, who wrote the script are also
starting on the next Bond script, so all this is going forward”.

Michell and Craig are no strangers, having teamed on the 2004 drama Enduring
    Love
. Michell’s helming credits also include the Ben Affleck-Samuel L. Jackson
vehicle Changing Lanes and the Julia Roberts – Hugh Grant romantic comedy hit
Notting Hill. He has first been rumoured to direct Bond 22 in May 2006.

  3. New Production Tidbits From Casino Royale

    By Tim Roth on 2006-03-24

Over the past few days, some interesting production tidbits have emerged.
    According to

    Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten
    , Germany’s biggest film studio
Berlin-Babelsberg was close to getting Casino Royale . Carl Woebcken, chairman of company
"Studio Babelsberg AG", said: "We ahd a strong fight with Prague’s Barrandov
Studios over the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale . But we got on the train
as a co-producer and hope to be a service provider for the next film." In other
words, it is highly possible that studio work for Bond 22 will be done in
Berlin-Babelsberg. "We’re also in talks with a studio in Sofia, Bulgaria, where
film companies could shoot cheaply and then post-production could be done in
Berlin". "Wage costs are too high in Germany, that’s why we lost Casino Royale
    to Barrandov", Woebcken said

    Berliner Zeitung
    .

    Meanwhile,

    Tschechien Online
reports that Prague’s authorities didn’t allow film
company Stilking, a co-producer for the 21st James Bond film, to use a small
park near the river Moldau. The production is going to shoot on the shore of the
Moldau for one day and Stilking Films wanted to rent a park as place for
technical stuff and catering service. Jana Příhodová, first representative
mayoress of Prague, said: "The park is used by dog owners, skateboarder and
children. We can’t close it for a day".

Casino Royale is the 21st James Bond film produced by franchise holders Eon Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting in January and is due for release worldwide on 17 November 2006. Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, it is currently being filmed in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.

  4. Casino Royale: Ulrich Matthes First Lined Up to Play Le Chiffre

    By Tim Roth on 2006-03-22
    Ulrich Matthes

    Ulrich Matthes

German character actor Ulrich Matthes has declined to play the role of
Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, Matthes reveals in a chat with German newspaper "Die Zeit". The Berlin-born actor, best known in the English speaking world for his
portrayal of Joseph Goebbels in Germany’s 2004 hit The Downfall had to refuse
accepting the role as he already was commited to another project during the
    shooting time of Casino Royale.

The actor said, "Yes, it’s true; they wanted me to play the big villain. I
would have loved to do that, to portray a really nasty guy. The most foolish
thing for an actor; to play the devil, to play a dead man, pang pang. There was
this concrete offer from the production company, but my shooting was about to
last thirty days. Unfortunately, I’m commited to a theatre project called
‘Virginia Woolf’ and we’re on tour in South America for a month. That would have
been the month they would have needed me on set." As German news agency DPA

    reports
, "After the rejection of Matthes, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen was hired
    for the part".

  5. "Craig is the best actor who has ever played James Bond!"

    By Tim Roth on 2006-03-12
    New amazing picture from 'Sonntagszeitung'

    New amazing picture from ‘Sonntagszeitung’

    Swiss newspaper

    Sonntagszeitung
has published a very long and detailed article on the
shooting of Casino Royale in the Bahamas containg a lot of interesting tidbits.
CBn has summarised the most important quotes and facts.
    Spoilers ahead!

Replying to the critics from ‘craignotbond.com’, director Martin Campbell said:
"I am convinced that Craig is the best actor who has ever – and I mean
ever – played James Bond". He added that GoldenEye "was a Bond formula movie,
but that lead into a dead end. We cannot go and blast away control centres for
another ten years. We’re going back to the beginning: No CGI, but good old fist
    fights."

Answering the obligatory Pierce Brosnan question, Campbell said "It’s not
personal. It has nothing to do with Pierce. But we re-boot the whole franchise.
We show that Bond will suffer from emotional and physical pain. Honestly, we
    couldn’t do that with Pierce."

Also, the Swiss paper cleared up a few rumours. Craig has a normal driver’s
license. He is allowed to and he can drive cars with gear shift. Second unit
director Alex Witt even says: "We’re kind of afraid of Daniel in a bulldozer,
because he drives like the devil."  Also, Craig is indeed a little bit
sun-burned, but he said: "Tell me someone of the cast or crew who isn’t." To
keep his good shape, Craig goes to the gym for two hours every day after
    wrapping.

Casting director Debbie McWilliams said that "We did actual screentests with
five actors." Of course she wouldn’t tell any names, but she added: "Beyond
Daniel, one English guy, two from Australia and one from former Yugoslavia." As
    CBn revealed
a while back, those four were Alex O’Lachlan, Goran Visnjic,
    Sam Worthington
    and Henry Cavill.

    Caterina Murino as Solonge

    Caterina Murino as Solonge

Martin Campbell said that "The last line of the book will be the last line of
the film. And yes, Eva’s Vesper is going to die". Suicide, as in the book? "We
won’t tell", Campbell said. "But the beast is going to die anyway". As for the
other Bond girl, the "Sonntagszeitung" revealed that – as already hinted on the
production skills from the Bahamas – Caterina Mourino’s Solonge will be a horse
    lover.

Barbara Broccoli  was also quoted, saying: "We are aware that filming book
#1 as film #21 doesn’t make any sense. It’s total nonsense. But it’s fun".

Finally, the paper also has some interesting lines about the gunbarrel: Is
the new gunbarrel already shot? Craig: "Maybe". Maybe? Craig: "Yes, it is shot. But on the other hand it isn’t. It’ll be a bit of a surprise, so stay tuned".

Casino Royale is the 21st James Bond film produced by franchise holders Eon Productions. 6. Details of Casino Royale Pre Title Sequence Emerging

    By Tim Roth on 2006-03-09

    While English tabloid The
    Sun
has today published great new pictures from the Bahamas Set of Casino Royale,

    Empire Online
has scooped seme exclusive and exciting new plot details!

Seems the whole film is subject of the ‘re-invention’ of the Bond series. As
Empire reports, "the traditional pre-credits action sequence will show how Bond
got his 00-rating, showing the (required) two kills that he carries out. We’d
heard that – but the news that it is in black and white is new, as is the news
that the change to colour will come at a crucial point."

It has been speculated that this crucial point will be the traditional
gunbarrel, as there were rumours that the gunbarrel will only be seen after the
    pre-title-sequence.

The whole pre-title-sequence, however, is backstory, aimed at giving the film a back to
basics feel. There will be no Q and no gadgets, as reported before, and since it’s the
film version of the first book,
Bond makes mistakes and develops into the character we all know.

‘Empire Online’ further reports, "Although the first part is wildly different
to the book (there’s a lot more scuba diving!), director Martin Campbell claims
the film is very faithful to the book’s third act – which, as readers will know,
contains some rather shocking scenes. In the meantime we can expect lots of
handheld cameras and equally un-Bond lighting/camerawork."

In other related news, the first set reports are going to air
today and tomorrow in different TV magazines. First, American programme ‘Extra’
went to the Bahamas for secrets from Casino Royale. A list of when it will air
can be found on the ‘Extra’

    website
    .

Tonight, TV viewers in Britain are able to catch the first
footage from the Bahamas set. ‘ET Today’ with
Ben, Jenni, Michael and Carla will feature a set report that can be seen from
    8.35 P.M. onwards.

BBC News 24 just ran some seconds of footage from the film, which can online
    also be seen

    here
! So be sure to check it out!

  7. More Exclusive Casino Royale Set Pictures

    The hotel building site

    The hotel building site

    Yesterday, CBn
reported that shooting of Casino Royale is currently taking
place in the small community of Coral Harbour in the Bahamas. In yesterday’s
article, CBn said that "the Defence Force, which is located on the site of the
failed hotel has two large, highly mobile cranes, standing about 30 storeys high
(whereas the hotel is about 15 storeys)".

Thanks to Sam Cohen, CBn today is able to deliver more detailed
information and exclusive spy shots from this filming location, plus additional
pics from the already seen "Madagascar" set.

The two cranes set up  that can be seen in the first picture are not
only for camera panning shots, but are also to be used as props.
    Attention: Spoilers! Highlight to read!

During the chase scene at the hotel, one character will run
along the top of one crane and leap to the other, sans harness. The climax of the chase scene
is going to takine place at the hotel and the "bad guy", most
propably "Bomber", will get in a bulldozer and chase James
Bond in that. Bond will end up pinned in between the wall of the hotel and the
oncoming bulldozer, and the bulldozer will slam into the wall and cause the wall
to crash down, making it appear that Bond has been crushed.

    The Madagascar Set

    The Madagascar Set

    This
leads to the conclusion that the scenes currently being shot at the Defence
Force are going to double for Madagascar as well. Another hint are the signs on
the construction sites (more images in the CBn Image Gallery), which are all in
French. The French language is the official language spoken in Madagascar.

As hinted above, CBn is also able to bring you more images from the already
seen Madagascar set, showing mostly abandoned and broken-down slums.

    All pictures
can be seen in the CBn Image Gallery!

A big thanks to Sam Cohen. Stay tuned to CBn for more
coverage from the Bahamas to come.

  8. Filming Details Emerge As Casino Royale Shooting Goes On

    Royal Bahamas Defence Force

    Royal Bahamas Defence Force

Our own man at station B, Harry Wyckoff, has returned with a lot of new
details from shooting Casino Royale in the village of Coral Harbour in the
Bahamas. As he put it, "things were quiet round here for a week or so. I presume
something happened to push back the shooting schedule, but things are now
    happening in full force."

Over the last two days, the normally quiet community of Coral
Harbour has been alive with the sound of  gunfire, and calls of "Video
Rolling…. Action!" The Defence Force, which is located on the site of the
    failed hotel (as
    CBn reported
) has two large, highly mobile
cranes, standing about 30 storeys high (whereas the hotel is about 15 storeys),
swinging backwards and forwards getting important arial hotel shots.

Hundreds of local people were hired as extras. The First Unit
has begun to arrive, and one of the propoerties EON is using has three large,
luxury trailers parked on it, presumably in preparation for the arrival of the
"Main Act". A notice was handed out to all residents yesterday morning, letting
them know that there will be a massively increased police presence starting on
Monday 6th, as the First Unit finishes arriving and begins shooting.

The notice also said that Monday and Tuesday will see some low flying
helicopters around, filming arial shots and chase scenes, along with more
gunfire for the duration of the two days….

Stay tuned to CBn as more details are going to emerge in the
next few days… Thanks again to Harry Wyckoff.

  9. Casino Royale: New Pictures Of Craig And Murino On Set

Swiss online magazine 20min.ch has posted a few new pictures of Daniel Craig
and Caterina Murino deboarding the Aston Martin DB5. Again, Craig does not wear
a suit or dinner jacket but a pullover, while Murino wears an elegant evening
dress. The photos were taken on location of Casino Royale in the Bahamas earlier this week.

    ‘The Villa del Balbianello’

One of the locations in Italy that Eon will be using for shooting Casino Royale has been revealed, Italian newspaper

    Il Giorno
reports. Eon and Sony have announced earlier this year that
filming will take place in Italy, but no details and exact locations were given
    so far.

According to Italian media, one week of shooting will take place in late May
in the ‘Villa del Balbianello’, which is located at the Lago di Como in the
region of Lombardy (Northern Italy). The Villa has also been used for two recent
Hollywood blockbuster movies, George Clooney’s Ocean’s Twelve and George Lucas’
Star Wars: Episode 2 and Star Wars: Episode 3. It is also the place that
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt chose to celebrate their marriage.

Locations scouts also had a look at the casino in the small town of Campione
d’Italia, but it is not known whether shooting is actually going to take place
    there.
