  9. 'Shaken And Stirred' James Bond 007 DJ Contest By Smirnoff

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-09-22

It was revealed on CBn back in July that Smirnoff Vodka, which is one of the marketing partners of the newest James Bond 007 film, Casino Royale would be putting together a multi-million dollar media campaign for the film.

Today, one of the aspects of that campaign has been revealed. The press release follows:

SMIRNOFF(R) VODKA AND DJ AM TO BE “SHAKEN AND STIRRED” IN NEW JAMES BOND DJ CONTEST; NATIONWIDE CONTEST SEEKS TO FIND BEST REMIX OF THE CLASSIC BOND THEME IN TIME FOR SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT’S CASINO ROYALE

SMIRNOFF(R) Vodka has teamed up with world renowned disk jockey, DJ AM and Sony Pictures Entertainment’s new James Bond film, Casino Royale, for a “Shaken and Stirred” DJ contest to uncover the best remix of the classic James Bond Theme.

Five finalists will be selected to perform live in a playoff event at a hot club in New York City on November 8. A celebrity panel of judges spearheaded by DJ AM will be in New York to attend the playoff and select a winner. DJ AM will also perform an exclusive set at the event. The winner will receive an all-expense paid, VIP trip to Las Vegas, the opportunity to open for DJ AM at a nightclub in Las Vegas and additional prizes including DJ equipment.

“This contest will give aspiring DJs and musicians an opportunity to put their own spin on one of music’s most iconic songs,” said DJ AM. “As a long time Bond fan, I’m psyched to be a part of this contest and am looking forward to hearing and judging the final entries.”

“Both the Smirnoff brand and James Bond are dedicated to being clearly original,” said Mark Breene, Vice President Smirnoff, Diageo North America. “Through the Shaken and Stirred contest, we’re giving DJs and electronic musicians around the country a chance to express their own brand of originality.”

To enter the “Shaken and Stirred” competition, DJs and electronic musicians are asked to visit www.smirnoff.com/casinoroyale and download the ZIP file that contains John Barry’s arrangement of the James Bond Theme (both in its entirety and as splits of the tracks from the provided recording). Entrants will then remix and reform the theme to create their own personal interpretation, either using their own equipment or Acidplanet, which can be accessed directly from the website. Entries can be submitted via email in MP3 format, or mailed on a standard CD-R. The remixes are only limited by the DJ’s imagination — all entries will be judged on originality, creativity and artistic style.

Online entries will be accepted until 10/13/06 and mail-in entries through 10/17/06. Online entries can be emailed to [email protected] and mail-in entries should be sent to: Scott Houston, Rogers & Cowan, 8687 Melrose Ave., 7th Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90069.

The close partnership between Smirnoff Vodka and Bond began in 1962’s Dr. No, when the villain hands Sean Connery a “Martini, shaken not stirred” made with SMIRNOFF(R) Vodka. This monumental moment in film literally changed the way martini drinkers made their cocktails, shifting from the traditional gin to a vodka-based drink and popularizing the vodka martini the world over.

Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, has received world wide acclaim as one of today’s most sought after DJs. He has worked on albums for Papa Roach, Madonna, Will Smith and Shifty, among others. He is known as the DJ of the A-listers and has played private events for celebrities like Jim Carrey, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Stiller, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Kate Hudson. When he is not playing private jobs for celebrities, he is playing at clubs in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami and Las Vegas. DJ AM is also the owner of LAX, a popular club in Los Angeles and has plans to open a Las Vegas-based LAX in 2007.
