    Mission 4: Sinkhole

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

You begin this mission off with no weapon to protect you and an enemy helicopter above. Move forward by sprinting to each set of boulders for cover, avoiding the attacking helicopter as best you can when sprinting (the trick is to sprint forward to the next boulder the moment he stops firing). You will eventually come across a burning plane wreckage just a little lower than the boulder you’re currently stationed at. When the timing is right, sprint for it and take cover inside the wreckage.

Just as the helicopter gunman stops firing, exit via the hole in the side and proceed down the rocky pathway ahead. As you make it down to the lower level, be wary of upcoming guard you will need to disarm (the first is carrying a TND-16). At this point, some enemies will begin attacking you from the left. Take them out and then head to where they were positioned by the underground river.

You’ll then need to start ascending the nearby rock formation, with enemies stationed at each level. Use cover at each level while you take out the enemy and repeat the process until you reach the top (be especially careful of any grenades that may be thrown at your direction).

Enter the cave at the top of the rock hill and move towards the crashed helicopter (there’s a path to it towards the right) and be prepared for an ambush of enemies coming from seemingly any direction. After you complete the objective here, move towards the side of the cavern (near the flare) and head up the path, taking out the two snipers ahead waiting for you.

As you move forward, you’ll eventually come across two additional snipers attacking Camille. Take them both out (and watch out for additional enemies that will eventually arrive). At this point, a helicopter arrives on the scene, so continue on the path to the left to equip a D.A.D. System. Time your shots well to take out the helicopter (the shots are powerful, but slow moving).

After the helicopter has been taken out and crashes, move down the hill to meet up with Camille. Mission Complete.

Quantum of Solace ranked in ninth place overall with an estimated cumulative gross of $165,698,000 in the US as of 1 January 2009.

This is second time a 007 film with Daniel Craig has made the top ten, following up the appearance by Casino Royale on the 2006 listing (that film also placed ninth overall).

Other overall positions by recent James Bond films include Die Another Day at 12th in 2002, The World is not Enough at 14th in 1999, Tomorrow Never Dies at 10th in 1997 and GoldenEye at sixth in 1995.

Quantum of Solace continues to play in theatres around the world. It’s current worldwide box office take is in excess of $539 million–and according to Dark Horizons–that total places it in seventh place overall for the top earners worldwide in 2008. 4. 'Thunderball' Actor Earl Cameron Receives CBE

    By Devin Zydel on 2009-01-02

The Birmingham Post reports that actor Earl Cameron has been honoured with a CBE (“Commander of the British Empire”) for his services to drama following a seven decade-long career in films, television and theatre.

James Bond fans will best remember the now 91-year-old actor for his role as Pinder in 1965’s Thunderball, one of the associates who assists Sean Connery’s 007 upon his arrival in the Bahamas.

Cameron’s first big break was starring in the 1951 crime drama Pool of London, a film about a diamond robbery (and also written by Thunderball‘s Jack Whittingham).

The role, in which Cameron became the first black British actor to star in a feature film, sparked the beginning of his career that continues today in recent films such as 2005’s The Interpreter and 2006’s The Queen.

His notable TV work includes appearances on Doctor Who, Dangerman and The Prisoner.

Speaking about the honour, Cameron said: ‘I played an artist who painted Helen Mirren’s portrait in The Queen, so I have already had a trial run. It never occurred to me I would come up for any kind of award like this.’

    Mission 3: Opera House

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

Start the level by moving forward to the box mounted on the wall with the red light in order to patch into the cameras. Move up to the left and deactivate the camera via the box (being careful not to be caught, obviously). After this is done, head down the pathway until you come up against misaligned bridges preventing you from moving further. To align them, press the left-side switch once and the right-side switch twice and then crouch down to cross.

Move towards the right after crossing and quietly take out the guard with his back to you (otherwise security will be alerted). Be sure to attach silencers to your pistols and SAF .45 when taking out enemies from this point forward. Proceed forward until you reach the section with the water below. Take out the patrolling guard on the far side and then head forward into the water. Emerge on the opposite side and then head outside, taking out any nearby guards. After this is done, head over to the bright green console in the corner and activate it to lower a shipping box that acts as a bridge for you to move to the other side.

Move across and then turn right to head up. Head forward to the control box on the wall (be careful to not be detected by the camera directly above it) and deactivate it. The next two cameras cover the outside area, so don’t leave the building until you’ve seen where they are placed and then stealthily deactivate them via the control boxes.

At this point, head up the stairs, ascend the nearby ladder and then hop over the edge on your right. Shimmy across the beam when you’re certain the sniper is not watching over that area and then climb up when you reach the other side. Crouch down and take out the sniper and then head up the staircase by where he was positioned to observe an important meeting.

As the meeting quickly ends, crouch down and watch out for the red tracking laser beams that lead back to the enemy snipers. Take out all of them by tracking their corresponding sniper beam (making sure to crouch down if they have you in their sights, obviously).

After you fall to a lower section, take out the nearby enemies before crossing the stage. You then need to move across a thin beam that requires a considerable amount of balance. The key to keeping things as centered as possible is patience; don’t speed through this. Once you reach the other end, move left to the lower section. Equip the new TLD-22 submachine gun and then take cover and take out any approaching enemies.

After a while, several explosions will begin to take place. Quickly head down the ladder and sprint across the dock to leap over a burning hole up ahead. Mission Complete.

    Mission 2: Siena

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

As the mission begins, follow after Mitchell. After moving down a small staircase, you’ll fall into a lower room. Take the path ahead of you until you fall to the second floor, upon which you should then take the passage to your right.

You’ll then move into a more open, flooding room where a firefight begins. Take cover as you take out of the enemies (many of them are carrying grenades) in this section. Shoot the glowing target towards the upper right in order to take out some of the enemies. Once you are generally clear of advancing enemies (be wary of the ones on the upper levels), aim for the glowing target on the left wall. Firing at this triggers an explosion which will knock down one of the pillars in the room and provide you with a path forward on the left wall.

As you move down this pathway, pay attention to the explosives that Mitchell has placed along the hall. Allow them to go off before stopping too close. Afterwards, proceed and you’ll eventually have to take care of a guard before following Mitchell up a ladder to the streets of Siena.

There are attackers waiting for you immediately upon entering the streets, so be sure to take cover. Take out the enemy in the upper third floor window ahead and fire at the explosive tank on the right to assist you with dealing with the attackers. After dealing with this group of enemies, feel free to upgrade your weapons in the nearby apartment top floor of the building beyond the marketplace (there’s a Mantis, GF18 A and SAF 9mm with ARO Scope to choose from).

Exit the apartment, head up the staircase and then jump to the next rooftop to continue chasing after Mitchell. You end up on the side of the street instead, so take out the set of guards firing at you from the windows before moving down to the lower rooftop and then head into the open building. Take cover and ambush the enemies inside. Once you’ve taken care of them, jump to the next building and take out the guards here before moving along the crashed bus to get to the other side of the street where you can ascend a drainage pipe (watch out for the snipers and other guards once you reach this point).

Head up to the bell tower for the final battle with Mitchell (you’ll be clear to do so when the music ends). Follow the timed button hits without making too many mistakes and you’ll be in the clear. Mission Complete.
