    By daniel on 2001-12-10

Australian actor George Lazenby, who portrayed James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, is to marry ex-tennis player Pam Shriver.

While Lazenby and Shriver have known eachother for over twenty years, the couple have only been dating since February.

Shriver told the Daily Mail: "Half way through dinner, half way through a conversation, he just paused and asked me to marry him.

"It was a surprise to me, I think it was a surprise to him until the first word of the sentence."

We wish Lazenby and Shriver all the luck in the world!

  4. Brosnan Denies Role Is Austin Powers III

    By daniel on 2001-10-11

Through publicist Dick Guttman, Pierce Brosnan has denied ever hearing of a plan for the star to take a role in the new Austin Powers movie Goldmember Showbiz Ireland has reported.

Guttman went on to say, “I don’t know where these stories come from. Pierce is in Ireland until Christmas then will be starting work on the new Bond so I don’t even know where he would get the time. His calendar is gone for the next year already.”

Looks like the rumour could have been a mutated form of the Austin Powers II news.

  5. Pierce Brosnan To Star In Austin Powers 3

    By daniel on 2001-10-08

Tim007 tells us this in the Movies Spoofs Forum:

SAT.1, a German TV-Station, has just reported, that the producers of the 3. Austin-Powers movie asked Pierce Brosnan to play a guest role in Austin Powers 3 – as James Bond!

Further SAT.1 reported, that Pierce has spoken with the Bond production firms – and they said “yes”. So Pierce Brosnan will play James Bond in Austin Powers 3!

DarkHorizon's have also reported the news saying:

Austin Powers: Goldmember: WENN reports that while Tom Cruise may be out, Pierce Brosnan looks to be in to cameo in the upcoming third AP comedy. Brosnan “will spoof his on-screen image in the sequel playing play a promiscuous secret agent who puts Austin’s bedroom exploits to shame”. A worker on the film says “It’ll be obvious that Pierce is playing James Bond – but Bond executives will ultimately decide whether Bond’s name or 007 will be mentioned on-screen”.

Despite this news it's common knowledge that Brosnan was to make a similair appearance in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. However, due to time contraints he couldn't film the required scenes. Austin Powers: Goldmember begins filming in January, at the same time as Bond 20, so it's very possible that time constraints may alter Mike Myers' hopes again.

Brosnan, Beresford to bond for ‘Evelyn’
    By: Michael Fleming

NEW YORK (Variety) – Pierce Brosnan and Double Jeopardy director Bruce Beresford will bond to make the Ireland-set drama Evelyn before Brosnan heads back to duty as James Bond in January.

Evelyn will begin production Oct. 15 in Dublin, and will be distributed domestically by United Artists, the arthouse arm of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the home of 007.

The drama is based on the true story of Desmond Doyle, who fought a protracted battle with the Irish government to overturn an arcane custody law and with the Catholic church to recover his four children after his wife ran off and he lost his job. The film’s title refers to Doyle’s daughter. Brosnan would play Doyle, and also serve as a producer.

‘It has elements of Erin Brockovich the little guy fighting the system against all odds,’ said Beau St. Clair, Brosnan’s production partner.

The film has long been a passion project for Brosnan, who spent some time under the care of the Christian Brothers order when his single mother went to England to find work as a nurse. She reclaimed him once she got settled.

While late fall starts for films are few and far between, Evelyn came together because separate projects planned by Brosnan and Beresford had come undone, making both unexpectedly available.

Brosnan, who watched A Sound of Thunder stall because of script problems, had the same experience on an adaptation of the Alan Folsom novel The Day After Tomorrow with director Roger Donaldson. Meanwhile, Beresford’s plan to direct Michael Caine in Boswell for the Defense also never got off the ground.

Beresford sparked to the Evelyn material, and Brosnan and St. Clair took it to MGM chairman Chris McGurk. He placed it at UA, with the caveat that the film be completed so that Brosnan would be ready to report for his fourth film as James Bond.

That film, to be directed by Lee Tamahori, is a milestone in the Bond franchise as it marks the 20th film in and the 40th anniversary of the series.

After he directs Evelyn, Beresford is set to direct Reunion for MGM. The picture is a Ghost-type tale about an 1880s couple who lose their daughter but find that another young girl can apparently channel their deceased child’s being.

  8. Austin Powers To Go Head To Head With 'Goldmember'

    By daniel on 2001-09-06

In typical Austin Powers style Austin Power 3, which begins production this November, will see Powers go head to head with the villainous Goldmember. An obvious play on the infamous Goldfinger there is not yet any confirmation as to whether or not his full name will be Auric Goldmember. However, according to Variety the film will be titled Austin Powers: Goldmember.

Ananova have reported that Goldmember has some 'unusual' qualities that the film's makers hope to keep secret until its release. Myers will also again play Powers, Dr Evil, Fat Bastard and presumably Goldmember for a neat little sum of $25 million.

"It's the most interesting, exotic villain people have seen in a long time, and every time Mike lapsed into the character in readings, we would literally lose it and take time to regain our composure," the film's director Jay Roach told www.variety.com.

The film's producers are talking to Verne Troyer about returning as Mini-Me, and the plan is to have Seth Green reprise his role as Dr Evil's son Scott, with Robert Wagner back as No 2. Heather Graham might return for a cameo, but a new love interest will be introduced.

The script leaves open the possibility for star cameos, but Roach said there was no truth in reports that Tom Cruise will appear in the film. Nonetheless, look out for Pierce Brosnan to perhaps make a cameo. Brosnan was approached to star in Powers II but had to decline due to a full schedule. The same could apply for Powers III. Brosnan is working on his own production till November and begins Bond 20 in January.

With the announcement of the project getting under way it now seems that MGM's "The Birth of the Pink Panther" and Universal's "Meet the Fockers" will be delayed indefinitely, though it's likely that at some future date they'll crop up again but that could be quite sometime and with a lot of different cast and crew.

One interesting thing to note is that Powers III may be released within weeks of Bond 20! Though a very tentative release date of July 26th 2002 has been mentioned for Powers III it of course could be well delayed closer to November and closer to Bond 20. Will Powers cause some damage to the Bond franchise? If you want to discuss that notion, try the Bond 20 Forums. It is afterall Bond 20 related. See you there!

  9. New Film For Brosnan Before Bond 20

    The site reports;

Brosnan will shoot the film in Ireland over the next two months and will be finished before Christmas, as he has to start filming Bond 20 movie in January.

  10. Jaws And Goldfinger In Top 20 Villains Of All Time

    By daniel on 2001-08-21

A poll on Only-Movies.Com, which received more than 17,000 votes, has reported that Richard Kiel's 'Jaws' and Gert Frobe's 'Auric Goldfinger' are two of the Top 20 Movie Villains of all time.

Jaws, who first appeared in 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me, came 15th with Goldfinger coming in 16th.

Congratulations to both as they both beat Kevin Spacey's "Keyser Soze" (The Usual Suspects) and Joe Pesci's "Tommy De Vito" (The Goodfellas). De Vito is doable, but Soze?

A big thank you to Jimmy Corleone for sending this news in to me!
