  3. Activision Pushes James Bond Racing Game To 2010

    By Devin Zydel on 2009-02-11

Bad news today for James Bond gamers.

TeamXbox reports that Activision Inc. has delayed the release of its follow-up James Bond game to 2010.

The follow-up to Quantum of Solace, which is being pegged as an original racing 007 game, was originally planned for a September 2009 release. However, Activision revealed that it wanted to put some space between this game and the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (which is slated for a late-2009 release).

The company stated that sales of Quantum of Solace were affected by the launch of Call of Duty: World at War, hence their reason for spacing things out this time around.

    Quantum of Solace: The Game

    Mission 15: Eco Hotel

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

Begin this final mission of the game by heading forward down to the sloped entrance to the garage. A car will come quickly at your direction: simply hug either side of the wall to let it pass and remain unscathed. Proceed carefully down towards the garage, but don’t just rush in as there are a considerable amount of enemies positioned here. From around the corner, you should be able to fire at the glowing hydrogen fuel cells–which will result in temporarily stunning the nearby guards–especially helpful for you considering there are so many of them here. If you feel the need to move forward to get a better shot, there’s a concrete barrier in the center just ahead, but watch out that you don’t get flanked while in this more vulnerable position. Be sure to grab an M14 at some point during this firefight as it will make things considerably easier for you.

After this first wave of enemies is taken down, a large gate on the left wall opens and even more guards will rush in to attack you. Be sure to have taken cover either at that concrete barrier or one of the nearby pillars before this occurs. Work your way though these guards (try to take as many of them out as possible while the gate is first opening) to only have even more rush through the gates. Pay special attention to this set of guards as many of them will take cover instead of blindly rushing into your line of sight. Deal with this set of guards one-by-one and then make your way to the previously locked second garage…

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

…where even more guards await you. The same general tactics apply, so deal with these enemies to finally put an end to this massive opening battle. Be sure to deal with the guards on top of the cars as quickly as possible during this fight. Grab the 8-CAT in the golden box to the right before heading out through the far exit. Ascend the stairs to the next floor and unlock the door towards your right. Pass through the kitchen, exiting it via the only unlocked door remaining.

You’ll soon come across the meeting between Dominic Greene and General Medrano. Two guards will soon rush through the nearby door, allowing you to proceed through. At this point, the fuel cells will explode, sparking several fires in the room you’re currently in. Shoot at the fire extinguisher on the floor to move forward once you are surrounded by flames and then shoot at the one in front of the left-side fire to be able to enter the office. Turn right to make your way to the kitchen, but don’t rush right in. Instead take cover to the side of the door and take out as many of the enemies inside as possible. Once they are out of the way, proceed through, shooting the two fire extinguishers on the walls.

The next stop is the dining area ahead, where several soldiers have prepared to ambush you by overturning several of the tables for cover. Stay by the doors to the kitchen and throw in a grenade and/or use your 8-CAT to get the upper hand here. When these men are out of the way, carefully make your way to the other side and descend to the first floor.

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

You’ll soon find your path blocked by fire, so shoot the glass on the left wall to head outside and around it. Shoot through the glass at the end to get back inside the hallway. Dodge the incoming explosions in the hallway by quickly making your way up to the second floor and then enter the second hotel room on your left. Make your way to the balcony and take cover at the dividers separating the balconies as you deal with the enemies here.

Once you reach the last balcony, you’ll come across the fight between Camille and General Medrano. Shoot at the nearby fuel cell on the wall to momentarily disrupt Medrano and give Camille the opportunity to take him out. Enter the room after this occurs and stock up on all the ammunition possible.

Exit Medrano’s room to the right–but as soon as you do, the floor ahead explodes, leaving only a small support beam for you to move across. Carefully balance your way down the beam and then turn left towards the staircase which brings you to the atrium.

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

Equip your 8-CAT and be prepared for the massive battle that awaits you here. Cover is absolutely essential here since you’re dealing with several enemies positioned on the balcony above–the area towards the right of your entrance is a smart stop. Fire away at the guards (you’ll use a ton of ammo throughout this battle), paying special attention to the grenades that they’ll periodically throw at your direction. Be careful that you don’t get flanked as well.

When this first set of enemies are taken out, you’ll be told to hack the control panel on the door to the stairs. Head towards it–but it soon explodes–so rush back to your cover position. At this point, Dominic Greene enters on the upper balcony ledge and a further set of guards appears from pretty much every direction. Start taking out the guards and when Greene moves by the explosive fuel cells to the right, fire away at them. He’ll then move to the second set to the left, so fire at those to finally take him out once and for all.

Head back to where you entered the room and shoot the fire extinguisher to put out the fire blocking your way. Proceed through and then exit the burning hotel with Camille via the opening to the left. Quantum of Solace: The Game – Complete.

    Mission 14: Venice

As a general note, be sure to follow Vesper Lynd along this mission and not let her get too far away. Begin things off by crossing over the bridge and making your way through the archway that leads into a building with an ascending staircase. You’ll pass by a bench to your left before you enter–here lies one of the cell phones of this mission which includes map.

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

After you climb the stairs, you’ll eventually emerge on a balcony overlooking a coutyard. A massive fight with the enemies positioned along here breaks out, no matter how stealthily you approach it. It’s best to deal with all the guards positioned on your level first. Use the various corners around you as hideout positions so that you have the upper hand when several of the enemies advance your position. When you’ve done all you can up top, proceed down the stairs to deal with the remaining enemies on the lower level. Use the walls by the stairs as a cover point before rushing out into the ambush. You’ll eventually make your way to last standing enemy, a guard positioned by the far gate. Eliminate him to proceed through.

Keep tracking Vesper towards her meeting. You can mostly stay up with her, except for the dead end at a gate up ahead near the ascending staircase. To proceed, either make a leap onto the suspended wooden walkway past the orange warning cones or drop down to the floor below and shimmy your way around the building via the small pathway leading up to it (right by the yellow pointed arrow). Once you reach the otherside, ascend the ladder.

Exit the apartment that you end up in via the left and you’ll soon make your way to a brick wall overlooking several enemies positioned throughout this gondola workshop. This time, you begin the battle, so get into a good position and then fire at side of the gondola to bring it down and then start firing on any and all enemies in position (be wary of the one guard on the same level as you towards your right and note that grenades can be particularly useful for you here). Proceed down via the staircase you’ll eventually reach and then take cover by the nearby crates as you deal with the remaining enemies–don’t rush forward too quickly otherwise you risk being flanked by approaching guards.

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

After all the enemies here are out of the way, proceed through the gate where the last wave of them entered through and move across the small bridge by the water, using the red motorboat as a continuation of that walkway in order to reach the wall on the otherside. Shimmy along this so that you can listen in on the meeting between Vesper and Adolph Gettler. Be certain that you are not spotted while doing this (watch out for the guard positioned by the gate).

Takedown this guard when he finally turns away and then make your way into the house. From this point on, you need to move quick as the house is flooding. Turn left upon entering and kill the first guard you come across. Take out the additional two guards that descend the stairs and then make your way up, taking out the remaining guards you come across as you proceed. You’ll soon come across a large, yellow floataton device doubling as a walkway. Move across this to proceed to the next area, where you’ll need to move across some wooden boards to then reach the next area. Ascend the stairs and then activate the nearby switch to lower more wooden boards that allow you to proceed across the gap and reach the top floor. Watch out for the the group of enemies that attack you here.

Head to the far corner and then turn left to take out the last guard in the room with the elevator. A cut-scene takes place. When the game resumes, grab the nail-gun and fire it at Gettler to take him out and end the level. Mission Complete.

    Quantum of Solace: The Game

    Mission 13: Barge

'Quantum of Solace' Game Box Art

    Quantum of Solace

Begin the mission off by discarding your handcuffs and then carefully proceeding towards the cameras on the right. Patch into the camera system. You can disable positioned by the building via the box positioned towards the left of the door. Head inside once this is done (one of this mission’s many cell phones is located here).

Proceed towards the warehouse, disabling the camera via the box towards the right. Take out the patrolling guard once this is done and then you should be able to carefully and quickly take out the sniper by the warehouse windows. Assume his position (picking up the WA 2000 rifle and any spare ammunition inside the building) once you’ve done this.

Vesper Lynd will be trying to make an escape on the barge at this point and you’re faced with the task of protecing her. Quickly run towards the leftside windows and shoot out the explosive tank near the spotlight so that the enemies aren’t able to shine it towards your direction. Run back towards the right for a better angle and start sniping out the enemies. You’ll have to split your time in dealing with those positioned on the upper level firing at you and those on the same level as Vesper who are trying to grab her. Obviously the guards going after Vesper are the main priority: don’t let them grab her for too long a time and don’t hit her with any of your bullets or the mission fails. Be especially wary of the final guard who goes after Vesper and grabs her quickly. Take him out to complete this section of the level (Vesper ultimately ends up captured once more at this point, but it is out of your hands for now).

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

Head down the stairs in the room to your left. There are some enemies positioned outside waiting for you, but you should be able to take them out easily enough from the doorway with your FRWL (there are also some explosive tanks positioned nearby that are helpful here). Once these enemies are out of the way, exit the warehouse and move left past the containers towards the ramp leading onto the barge. Two enemies will rush down at you here, but there are more explosive containers positioned nearby for you to fire at. The resulting explosion should at least take out one of the guards.

Once those two enemies are dealt with, prepare for a massive firefight upon boarding the barge. Enemies advance you from nearly every position, so use your grenades immediately in order to take out as many of them as possible. There are more explosive containers to fire at as well, otherwise just methodically take cover and pop out to deal with the remaining guards. It’s a long battle, so patience is required.

When this firefight comes to a close, proceed towards the portholes on the deck. If you aim inside, you’ll be able to shoot at the explosives inside and thus blow open the door for you to eventually enter. Once inside, be sure to grab the TLD-22 out of the yellow crate. Proceed down the hall and towards the left to exit this area. Proceed up to the deck via the stairs and be prepared for an ambush once you ascend the ladder (there’s an ammunition box positioned on the deck near here if you need it). Two guards will be firing at you immediately and cover is almost nonexistent, so crouch down immediately by the railing and do your best to take them out.

Move down the path to the left once this group of enemies is dealt with and prepare to do it all over again with another set of guards. Shoot at the blue explosive tanks positioned by them for some extra assistance and watch out for one enemy that shows up towards the upper right towards the end of this battle. Descend the nearby ladder once these enemies are taken care of and proceed forward until you reach the room with this mission’s sixth and final cell phone. One more battle awaits you after you leave the cabin with Le Chiffre’s henchman, Kratt, and several other guards. Use the walls for cover as you take out the guards. As for Kratt, simply aim at the suspended container directly above him–there are two explosive barrels positioned on it. When the fight is over, use the cargo controls to open the cargo hold. Mission Complete.

    Mission 12: Casino Poison

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

Without question, the shortest mission in the entire game. You’re on a strict time limit, so move fast. You’ve been poisoned and need to reach your parked Aston Martin DBS as quickly as possible. Thankfully, the opening video essentially shows you exactly where you need to go and the onscreen compass provides additional navigational assistance when you’re moving.

Across from the table where you’re positioned at is a staircase. Make your way over there and then turn right to enter a dining room. Stay to left side of this room and eventually make your way through the door on the left. Ascend this next set of stairs and then move forward through the fountain area. Turn right at the hallway and take it to the end. Once here, turn and descend the stairs to reach the lobby. Head towards the doors, but be sure to exit out of the set on the right as that path is not blocked by other people.

Once outside, move to the edge of the street and let the two cars quickly pass you by, then make a run for it. Once you make it past the lanes, the parking lot (and your Aston Martin with the antidote) is just towards the right. Mission Complete.

    Quantum of Solace: The Game

    Mission 11: Casino Royale

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

Stealth is a key factor in this mission, so keep that in mind as you begin. Take out the first guard when he begins to walk away from your starting point. There are two guards in conversation in the nearby side room. Move in here and take them out (the further guard will likely not notice you enter). Afterwards, head out and take out the guard positioned at the balcony. Climb over the broken section of the balcony ledge and start sliding across to the next one. Take extra care to not be seen by the guards positioned by the windows when you’re moving across–wait for them to move away before proceeding.

When you reach the next balcony ledge, take out the guard positioned there (this won’t alert the other nearby guard if you wait for him to look away) and then take out that other guard in the bedroom just as he starts to turn away from you. There’s another enemy in one of the side-rooms and one further one in the hotel hallway. After these men are dealt with, push the nearby laundry cart blocking the entrance to a locker room and proceed through.

Once inside, look above to see a rattling air vent: your way forward. With your silenced weapon, shoot out the vent and then push one of the carts towards the lockers so that you can climb up and make your way into it. Move to the left and proceed forward. You’ll soon be dropped automatically into a spa room where a large fight is already going on. Take cover immediately (thankfully there is some right in front of where you drop in). There are numerous enemies in this room and some you’ll be able to take out immediately from where you are. However, because of the general layout, you’re going to eventually have to move forward to deal with the rest of them. There are side rooms you can rush to if you feel you’re being ambushed by the men, otherwise just keep pressing forward until all the enemies are out of the way.

Once all of the enemies are taken care of, move to the end of the hallway past the spa with the steam and head through the open door. Eventually make your way down the next hallway and you’ll come across two guards in conversation on a balcony towards the left. Take them both out and then climb over the balcony ledge towards the right to start sliding around to the next balcony.

    Quantum of Solace

Once you reach it, wait until the patrolling guard in the bedroom starts moving away from your position and then quickly take him out. As soon as you head out through the doorway, turn left and you’ll spot another patrolling guard in the hallway: take him out. Head down the hallway until you come across a concierge desk and a blinking red security lock on the wall behind it. Be sure to have cleared out this hallway of all enemies before unlocking the entrance to the ballroom.

Arm yourself with a strong weapon and then proceed into the ballroom. This section is a massive firefight that requires a lot of moving around. Luckily for you, there are plenty of items, such as those helium tanks located above that you can shoot at to assist you against the numerous guards positioned here. It’s personal preference regarding whether to begin on the ground floor or sprint for the upper level–no matter which you choose, be sure to take out all the enemies on the same floor as yourself before spending too much time on the ones located on the other. However, do note that if you immediately run to the upper floor, you run the risk of having enemies from the lower level follow you, forcing you to deal with even more at the same time.

There are several pillars you can use as cover while taking out guards on the lower level, but the upper floor is much more difficult due to the fact that enemies can rush at you from seemingly any direction. Once all the guards are finally taken out, the objective will be completed and you’ll be able to proceed to the far hallway. Take out the new set of guards positioned here from a distance if possible. Once they’re out of the way, proceed forward for your final confrontation of the level: the machete-wielding Steven Obanno.

The fight with Obanno is one of the more difficult sequences in this game. There are more buttons to press in this quick-time battle, so your timing needs to be as close to perfect as possible. Do things correctly long enough and eventually Obanno will be taken out. Mission Complete.
