  5. Smirnoff Vodka To Bond With 007 In Casino Royale

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-07-24

Business Wire reports that Smirnoff Vodka will once again team up with the James Bond 007 films and be featured in Casino Royale. The full press release follows:

SMIRNOFF(R) Vodka and Bond Shake Things up in Casino Royale; Newest Bond Film, Casino Royale, to Feature SMIRNOFF Vodka Back on Duty as 007’s Vodka of Choice

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 24, 2006–The stage is set. Miss Monneypenny just had her hair done and is practicing batting her eyes. Evil international genius masterminds bent on world domination everywhere are running for the hills. Martini glasses are being chilled, and SMIRNOFF(R) Vodka is being stocked. Make no mistake, James Bond is back.

After a four-year hiatus, probably spent entertaining young women on the beaches of Monaco, Mr. Bond will return to the screen in the upcoming EON Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment production of “Casino Royale,” set to release November 17, 2006. The return of Bond will also mark the return of another icon — SMIRNOFF(R) Vodka, the number one-selling premium distilled spirit in the world, as James Bond’s vodka of choice.

The renewed alliance between Smirnoff and Bond will involve a fully integrated multi-million dollar media campaign, which will be activated in the U.S. and around the globe. The campaign will include: a broadcast advertising campaign; on- and off-premise promotions and sweepstakes; a global public relations campaign; and a fully interactive Casino Royale microsite.

“The James Bond and Smirnoff brands have gone hand in hand for more than 40 years, and throughout our rich history together, we have both remained true to our roots — clearly original,” said James Thompson, President, Smirnoff Global Marketing. “Today, Bond is as much a part of Smirnoff’s history as Smirnoff is of Bond’s — and we’re delighted to be part of this latest chapter,” Thompson added.

The close partnership between SMIRNOFF Vodka and Bond began in 1962’s “Dr. No,” when the villain hands Sean Connery a “Martini, shaken not stirred” made with SMIRNOFF(R) Vodka. This monumental moment in film literally changed the way martini drinkers made their cocktails, shifting from the traditional gin to a vodka-based drink and popularizing the vodka martini the world over.

  9. James Bond Will Return in 2008

    By righty007 on 2006-07-21

Today, Eon Productions, MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Bond 22 will be released on 2 May 2008. This announcement shuts down the rumour of a 2007 release which would not only have been a great year to market a 007 film but it would have also celebrated the 45th anniversary of the first James Bond film produced by Eon Productions, Dr. No.

COLUMBIA PICTURES AND MGM ANNOUNCE MAY 2, 2008 RELEASE DATE FOR 22ND JAMES BOND ADVENTURE STARRING DANIEL CRAIG

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ — It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that the 22nd James Bond adventure will be released by Columbia Pictures on May 2, 2008 with Daniel Craig reprising the role of the legendary British secret agent.

The story for the latest James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions has yet to be announced. “As we wrap production on CASINO ROYALE we couldn’t be more excited about the direction the franchise is heading with Daniel Craig. Daniel has taken the origins of Ian Fleming’s James Bond portraying, with emotional complexity, a darker and edgier 007,” said Wilson and Broccoli.

Official Press Release from EON PRODUCTIONS LTD, MGM and SONY

This announcement is not the only Bond 22 news this month. A few days ago, CBn reported that Roger Michell is in negotiations to direct the follow-up to Casino Royale. There is also a rumour in the Superhero Hype! forums that the working title for Bond 22 is Risico which is the title of a short story in Ian Fleming’s For Your Eyes Only.

  10. 'Bond 22': Roger Michell To Direct?

    By Tim Roth on 2006-07-17
    Roger Michell

    Roger Michell

    Following the recent insider
    report
that Martin Campbell won’t return to direct Daniel Craig’s second
    outing as James Bond, today’s

    Hollywood Reporter
says that "U.K.-based helmer Roger Michell is in
negotiations to direct the follow-up to Casino Royale which has a working title
    of Bond 22".

According to the trade paper, Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, who penned the
last three James Bond movies, are not going to return for Bond 22 either.
Instead, suggests the "Hollywood Reporter", "sources say the film is based on an
original idea from Bond producer Michael Wilson." This would be the first
writing involvement of Wilson since 1989’s License To Kill. Together with
Richard Maibaum, Michael Wilson wrote all of the 1980s Bond movies,
starting with For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

The news of Eon Productions looking for a new writer to adapt Wilson’s ideas, is contrary to former statements by
the producers. At the opening press conference for Casino Royale, Wilson was
quoted to have said that “Purvis and Wade, who wrote the script are also
starting on the next Bond script, so all this is going forward”.

Michell and Craig are no strangers, having teamed on the 2004 drama Enduring
    Love
. Michell’s helming credits also include the Ben Affleck-Samuel L. Jackson
vehicle Changing Lanes and the Julia Roberts – Hugh Grant romantic comedy hit
Notting Hill. He has first been rumoured to direct Bond 22 in May 2006.
