  4. David Arnold On The Casino Royale Score

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-08-17

News had been traveling through the 007 grapevine that sections of the famous On Her Majesty’s Secret Service theme would be featured in the score for Casino Royale.

Thanks to an update on David Arnold’s official website, this rumour has been proved untrue. According to the update, Casino Royale is most similar to the On Her Majesty’s Secret Service score in that it doesn’t simply rely on the James Bond theme. Rather, new themes have been added. The On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is not included in the Casino Royale score.

Additionally, Arnold has finished recording the title song ‘You Know My Name’ with Chris Cornell in London. It has since been remixed in LA.

  5. Fans Say "Good Luck Daniel Craig"

By The CBn Team on 2006-08-16

Bond fans are angry at the press certain negative sites have garnered, and seek to redress the balance. After reactionary sites were launched following the announcement of Daniel Craig as the sixth official incarnation of James Bond, the general consensus has been that fans are appalled by EON Productions/Sony Pictures’ choice. However, CommanderBond.net has founded DanielCraigIsBond.com in an effort to allow true fans of Her Majesty’s Secret Servant to express their delight at the casting of Craig.

“We were aware through comments made by Daniel Craig and the worldwide press recently that the opinion was the fans were upset by his casting”, said CommanderBond.net/DanielCraigIsBond.com founder David Winter “however the majority of our community at CBn are excited by the prospect of a reinvented 007. We just wanted to give them a voice.”

DanielCraigIsBond.com was set up in reaction to the ten month battery Casino Royale has received in the press since “CraigNotBond.com” was launched by those disgruntled by the dismissal of Pierce Brosnan as Bond, ordering fans to boycott the film, “but CommanderBond.net has always had a ‘let’s wait and see’ policy”, Winter professes, “and we are now getting increasingly thrilled by what we are seeing”.

DanielCraigIsBond.com was launched on Friday 11th August and has already received a lot of attention from fans wishing to express their excitement for Casino Royale, the 21st James Bond film by producers Eon Productions. The web site has had messages of support for Daniel Craig from people all around the world; Argentina, Asia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, Trinidad, the UK and the US.

The official Casino Royale website blog has been updated by ‘Yarborough.’ Coverage this time centers on the train sequence in the film and Bond girl Eva Green.

The Pendolino, the train which is featured in the film, will be the location of the introduction to the leading lady of the film: Vesper Lynd (Eva Green). According to the report, the train will be traveling to the Casino Royale in Montenegro in the film and will be the site of several ‘verbal sparring matches’ between Green’s Vesper and Daniel Craig’s James Bond.

‘Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson really helped me with the character. They talked me through the story, which is quite complicated on the first reading…’ says Green of the role. ‘She’s [Vesper] quite complex and it’s difficult to see through her. That’s why I think James Bond gets attracted to her, because he can’t really see through her.’

It was previously announced back in late July, that the famous ‘007 Stage’ would need to be demolished and rebuilt. Today, the BBC News confirms that the demolition will be going forward.

A date has not been set for the demolition and estimates of the damage cost are too early to tell. A Pinewood representative said: ‘The inside will be cleared and rebuilding work will begin as quickly as possible. It will be knocked down.’

The cause of the fire, which required at least eight fire engines, is yet to be determined. An investigation has been completed and a formal report is expected in two to three weeks.

This is the second time the stage will be needed to be rebuilt because of fire damage. It was previously destroyed during the filming of Ridley Scott’s Legend. It was rebuilt in time for the 1985 Bond film, A View To A Kill.

  9. Entertainment Weekly Goes Inside Casino Royale

    By Devin Zydel on 2006-08-12

Bond fans can now check out the entire Entertainment Weekly article on Daniel Craig and Casino Royale.

So how did Craig prepare for the daunting role as 007? ‘I watched every single Bond movie three or four times, taking in everything I could about how the character had been portrayed in the past — then threw all that away once I started doing the role. There’s no point in making this movie unless it’s different. It’d be a waste of time unless we took Bond to a place he’d never been before,’ he tells EW.

According to this new interview, the budget for Casino Royale exceeds $150 million (Die Another Day was around $142 million). Previous amounts mentioned were $72 million as well as £72 million.

Producer Barbara Broccoli explains that Casino Royale is not ‘a period piece or anything like that. It’s set today, right now, and it’s got all the action fans have come to expect from the movies. But we’re getting back to the essence of Bond, to the Bond in Fleming’s first 007 novel.’

And why the need for the change? According to producer Michael G. Wilson, after the release of Die Another Day, ‘we spent eight months trying to come up with a story, but just couldn’t … we decided to start all over with the story we’ve always wanted to tell—how Bond became Bond in the first place.’

Fans have apparently been wondering what the infamous ‘Bond… James Bond’ line will sound like coming from Craig’s mouth. The actor simply replies: ‘honestly, I didn’t rehearse it at all. I didn’t practice it in the mirror every morning or anything like that.’

‘He’s never really done an action movie before… He’s used to a deeper sort of acting, but doing a movie like this one, it’s acting in three-second bursts. So it took Daniel awhile to get used to it, to get the rhythm down. But he eventually got comfortable in the role,’ adds director Martin Campbell.
